Greetings, I'm in need of some help please. I'm looking for a system for my home starting off with 4 cameras. I'm ok with an NVR or PC based as I have a PC laying around. I would like the following: 4 domes (3 outside and 1 inside). I was thinking of the Speco OiD4. I need one camera to clearly recognizes faces from 40 feet day or night. East Coast climate. I want to used a digital filter to block out channels to allow the camera video to be injected into my cable plant. On the views of the NVRs I looked at only show 1 HDMI output. How could each video be injected into my CATV plant on different frequencies? Want to be able to view cameras via my mobile device. On a side note: is there anyway to also interconnect Comcast's xFinity Home Security into a system? Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.

I did notice that the Avermedia NV3000 is listed as a hybrid and that is the reason why I was leaning that way (also it's a few bucks cheaper ) The card isn't listed as lite. The mfr # is NVDNV3000. Thanks all for the help. I will purchase and let you know what I think. Regards.

Thank you for the info and the link. I now understand – as with photography lens quality, shutter speed and camera determine picture quality. A higher FPS/IPS will increase my chances of getting that face shot? Looking at the link 15 fps is barely distinguishable compared to 30 fps. 7.5 seem acceptable also. Thanks so very much for the response and education. Now all I need is for someone with experience on the two cards above to give me a recommendation? Regards.

Greetings: I have 4 Panasonic WV-CW474A Dome Cameras. They do 30fps/480 to 570 lines horizontal & 350 vertical. I’m looking for a good Video Capture card with flexible software. The cameras also do motion detection. My application is my residence’s front, back doors. I plan on doing motion detection to save on hard drive space. I have a highly loaded PC (Windows 7, XP or Vista). Hard drive space won’t be an issue as I have a 2TB drive I can install. I plan on segregating the operating systems from the recording drive by installing a 2nd hard drive. The two cards that caught my eye are the GeoVision GV-600-4 and the Avermedia NV3000. If someone has any comparison experience with the two cards can you please point out the differences (advantages/disadvantages)? I would like to also know which one has the software advantage? Both cards do 30fps. My understanding of this is that it is a shared 30fps on the card. Example 4 cameras recording at the same time = 7.5 fps each? If my understanding is correct, if I use motion and the other 3 cameras aren’t recording will the camera recording record at 30 fps or does that have to be hard coded to 7 fps to ensure that all cameras will record properly when activated? How many fps are needed to get a crisp recognizable image of a person (understanding that it will vary with the conditions)? Thank you in advance for your assistance. Regards.

I’m in search of either a PC based security software and video card for 4 cameras or a DVR unit. I’m not partial to either. I have a very good PC that could be solely for the CCTV system with substantial hard drive and process power. However, I will forgo the PC for a DVR unit it that fits my needs best. I currently have 4 Panasonic WV-CW474S …dome cameras. They are 480 lines color and 520 b&W. They also have built in motion detector and electronic zoom features. I would like the system to take full advantage of my cameras. The unit will be for home use. I would like to connect to my network to view from my iPhone. I would like to be able to view cameras in split screen. I’ve read that the unit should be H.264AVC compression? I would like the system to be user friendly and feature full. Of course, I would like the unit and/or software to be inexpensive (tight budget). Since I have the cameras I’m thinking $600.00? PC package or DVR unit? Which exact model would you suggest? Why that model? What are the features that would be useful for residential use? I might,, again might (but not a show stopper) connect an IP camera or two in the distant future. Greetings all: I’m renovating my 3 story townhouse. As the walls will be open I would like to mount 5 video cameras to start. 1. 1st floor interior dome with smoked glass = 60’Lx30’W viewing area 2. 2nd and 3rd floor interior dome with smoked glass = 16’x4’W viewing area each 3. First floor exterior rear - weather proof dome than can view at night (I will also be adding a motion sensor flood light). As parking is tight in the city it will serve as an open driveway – no gate. I would like the dome to have smoked glass so that the point of the camera can’t be seen but I don’t know how that will affect viewing in day or night? The viewing area is about 30’Wx30’L 4. 2nd floor exterior front - weather proof dome than can view at night. It will be mounted on eave which is above the 2nd floor ceiling height pointing down at the front door. The height down to the front door is about 30’ and 30’W. My budget is about $1,000.00 (Not including PC and hard drive). I have a PC and can add a 2TB drive. I don’t want to have to change batteries and very little reoccurring maintenance. I would like the recordings to be activated by motion as not to record “non-activity”. Also, I will be using an Ademco Vista 20P alarm panel. It would be nice to be able to activate recording of all cameras if the alarm is activated (wish list). Not wanting to change batteries and adding unsightly power outlets where I want to locate the cameras, with limited knowledge of video security camera systems, I would think that I’m limited to coaxial with dc power leads? Can someone suggest a solution including items for a PC but I’m open to separate DVR units. BTW I have Windows XP, Vista and 7 available to me. Thank you in advance. Regards.
