External residential CAT5 installs.... tips?
Razesdark replied to voip-ninja's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Just make sure the cables can handle UV light. Some cheap cables tend to rip open on spots where there's some tension on the cables (e.g. corners) if they can't handle UV light. -
I was wondering if any of you have created/supplied a mobile camera set to any customers. And if so, what communications methods did you use ? UMTS/GPRS etc. And do you happen to know how often the customers use it due to transmission costs. And what kind of settings do you use for the camera. To me it seems like a very costly solution. Our security team wants one which they can put near our roads but I recon that is going to costs allot of bandwidth. Specially since you're dealing with cars so you can't just choose a low resolution (can't read plates) nor low framerate (missing cars). And when dealing with GPRS etc., lots of bandwidth means you need a good filled wallet. It could be that bandwidth costs are just rediculous here in the Netherlands, which wouldn't suprise me. So I was wondering what your experiance is in the matter and what your opinions are regarding these mobile sets.

Desperate: "thief" cheating our wired CCTV constantly?
Razesdark replied to ThomasSmith's topic in General Digital Discussion
You can watch how it ended here -
I got a SNP-5200H hanging here, and I'm quite happy with it. It's quite cheap and the quality is good enough. I haven't noticed any constant focus shifting so far.

CCTV in a car... tied to all the sensors.. have you ever?
Razesdark replied to ssnapier's topic in System Design
Axis has a nice recorder suited for mobile vehicles. It's mostly based on usage in busses so it might be a tad overkill for a car where you might have 3 camera's max. It's the Q8108-R -

How long does it take to get Milestone Licenses?
Razesdark replied to dbeyer's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I takes my reseller around 72 hours as well. But you got a 30 days grace period ? So it doesn't really matter that much right ? -

MegaPixel Cameras - Images and Demos
Razesdark replied to rory's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
We just hung up a Samsung SNP-5200H. It came out as one of the best of the domes our standard suppliers had and it's cheap as well! I must say, I'm quite pleased with the quality in the late hours. Here are two images, one during the day, one at night. -
At the moment I have a trail version of Milestone running with a LPR trail version running. So far it's working pretty good. I did see some inconsistancies, but that's mainly due to numberplates which are dirty or bend. I just need to find out how I can get the number plate information of it. We want to use it in our weighbridges so that once a truck runs up the bridge, his plate get's send to the weigh program.

I currently have this project where I have to replace a controll system for a bunch of domes. They used to have 1 on 1 controll devices which contained the protocol for each dome seperately. I now have 2 axis devices which just controll all the domes. The problem is tho, that some domes use VCL and the newer ones use Pelco D. Since the old structure was 1 on 1, the only option I have is to create a Star system which requires me to use an RS485 hub. I'm just wondering tho, do I need two seperate hubs for each protocol, or can I just use 1 large one for all domes and send both VCL and Pelco D on the same busline ? So basicly, do VCL and Pelco D bite eachother ?

any reccommendations on mega pixel PTZ
Razesdark replied to jeromephone's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The Samsung SNP-5200 is quite cheap as well. I haven't had the chance to try on out yet as I haven't gotten a job yet to install one so I can't say much about the quality but the min illumination looked really good (color 0.7 Lux F1.6 50 IRE/bw 0.08 Lux F1.6 50 IRE) -
Max days storage in your countries
Razesdark posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
So I spoke to a Milestone trainer who was from America himself who told me that America doesn't have any law that says how long you may hold your video storage. That suprised me, as here in the Netherlands, it used to be 24 hours. Luckely they recently changed it. We can now hold video for a period of 30 days. So I was wondering, how long is the max period in the countries you all live in ? -

Max days storage in your countries
Razesdark replied to Razesdark's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The 30 days is the maximum number of time you can store your video. As far as I know, there isn't a set number of time determined when you break that law, I recon it's up to the judge to determine that. And as for the question on how would they know ? Well I recon with all crimes, they need to find out themselves. There isn't an agency which actively checks if everyone lives up to the law. There is an agency at where you need to register your cameras in regards to privacy, but that isn't directly related to actually storing the video, as you need to register the camera's in all cases, even when you don't store the video. Why they have the law, I recon it has somewhat to do with privacy. I don't see the effectiveness of it much, but seeing the history of laws we had here in Holland in regards to new technology, this doesn't suprise me so much. Also, no restrictions on quality either. We even had police commissioners complaining on TV that most CCTV have crappy quality and are rarely usuable due to poor image quality. We do have rules when it comes to audio. Afaik, no duration on how long you can store it, but the most important rule we have is that you cannot store audio as long as you aren't a part of the confersation. Meaning we can't store audio with CCTV camera's as you are never part of the conversations. So far they haven't combined CCTV laws with other data being stored. I'm not quite sure if they really need to. The part about not being able to record police actions sounds tad too 'Police state' for my likings. I would love to see a lawyer try to pull that stunt in one of our courts. -
Right cable for 100 foot run
Razesdark replied to stonesmiith's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I think you may be right about having a defective camera. Each reply shouldn't be more than 2ms locally. The time it takes to receive a reply could most likely be the underlying cause of the grainy & dealyed playback you mentioned. If the reply from a ping takes that long the data transmission will not be smooth - you'll most likely get a lot of dropped data packets. I agree, with times like that, there's certainly something wrong with either the switch (if you still had that one between your camera and your PC) or the camera itself. You shouldn't go above 10ms at most! when doing a ping with such short cable length. -
Sounds like something that would never hold it's ground in a factory envoirement. We have enough troubles with frequency changers using analog. I can imagine that if you have a troublesom cable route you'd could consider going HD-SDI. But 300 feet is quite short and easily replaced by a CAT5E in most cases. Hearing all this, I wonder how long we will still hear about HD-SDI, cause it sounds like it a dead horse who still hasn't felt the flogging.

Right cable for 100 foot run
Razesdark replied to stonesmiith's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Sometimes you get a "destination host unreachable" when the ARP table hasnt been updated yet. The 11 request time outs and the 1 reply do indicate that there's something wrong with the route to the camera and/or the camera itself. You could try heavier packages when pinging with the short cable. This is done by using ping -t -l 5000 (for example) See if you get timeouts as well when using a short cable but still a heavy load. -
I never really put much research in HD-SDI. But to me it seems like putting allot of efforts and money into a system just because you don't want to replace the cables. Perhaps I'm just spoiled with all the factories I work in which have easy cable routes, but it seems a tad pointless. Perhaps if the distance versus IP was far better it would had been nice, but judging from the posts here, that doesn't really seem to be the case.

Installing Multi-Megapixel Camera in shoping center parking

What is it ? PTZ or fixed dome ? Type ? Brand ? -
I've got an DVR running here with 7 year old HDD which are slowly dying. So I got some cash to replace the whole bunch but was wondering how. They're running in a RAID 1 setup and are currently 400 Gb. I want to replace them for some nice WD Black Caviar 500 Gb HDDs. But I don't want to loose the data. Can I just replace half of them, rebuild it and then the other half ? Or do I loose 100gb per disk then ? Anyone got any experiance with this ?

Cloning MAC address for little downtime
Razesdark replied to Electryko's topic in Computers/Networking
Correct. You can replace the MAC address appointed to the license. I got a version running here with 4 camera licences. And it says: "Deletions left: 2" Not sure how the number of deletions is related to the # of camera's. Perhaps per 2 camera's, 1 deletion. -
Axis P1344 H.264 view - possible?

The datasheet says: "Yes" Video compression H.264 (MPEG-4 Part 10/AVC) Motion JPEG -
I got 3 different types of Ionit DVR running here. As far as I could have seen, 2 got their RAID config inside Windows and 1 is only accessable trough booting. They're all running Windows XP. The two Windows RAID ones had a 'AMCC 3ware 9550SX'.

Anyone has any experiance with this dome ? It's looks to have a quite decent min illumination values when compared to other brands and it's price is quite nice. It's 720p, alarm contacts and a 4,45mm to 89mm lens. I'm just wondering what the catch is. Cause the price difference with other brands is quite big.
