Could be a meth house and/or hydroponic pot farm. The need for the cameras would be obvious.

IR Illuminator Interferes with PIR Motion Detector?
dvarapala posted a topic in General Digital Discussion
I have a Raymax RM100 IR illuminator (940 nM) and a PIR motion sensor floodlight covering the same general area; the Raymax is for covert license plate capture at night, and the PIR motion sensor is used to trigger the LP camera (and turn on a visible flood light for deterrence). Since installing the Raymax I have noticed an apparent reduction in sensitivity from the PIR motion sensor lights; they seem to take a little bit longer to trigger than they did before. Whereas the PIR used to trigger when the nose of a vehicle passed in front of it, now the vehicle is usually entirely past before the sensor trips (if it trips at all). Is it reasonable to assume that the IR light from the Raymax is interfering with the PIR motion sensor? Any tips or tricks to using both together successfully? -
IR Illuminator Interferes with PIR Motion Detector?
dvarapala replied to dvarapala's topic in General Digital Discussion
I wish I'd known that before spending $400 on a high-end Redwall PIR motion sensor. I ran a little experiment and turned off my Raymax; the PIR works great as long as the IR illuminator is turned off or pointed in another direction. Heh! A side effect of that approach is that it would trigger everyone's RADAR detectors whenever they drive past my house -
Have you tried hitting the "reset to factory defaults" button?

whats wrong with that ptz, looks ok for another 10 years life in it yet I guess we'll be seeing that contraption for sale on Nelly's Surplus soon?

This usually indicates that the checksums are being computed in hardware on the Ethernet card. As you noted everything is working fine so it's safe to ignore those errors.

I have a Computar 25mm MP lens and it's been great so far (been in use for about a year now). I only wish I'd paid $35 for it.

What Would You Say to This Guy? (Blah blah blah part 2)
dvarapala replied to rory's topic in Test Bench
Not through the coax. If you could update the firmware at all, you would have to take the camera down and plug a JTAG programmer into it. IP cameras can be updated in place over the Ethernet. Nah you dont say .... COULD was in caps for a reason. And yet you conveniently forgot to include that important little detail in your comeback. -

Bug fixes, new features, etc. - the same reasons as any other software package. -
IP8332 Install help please

OK, so then how do you explain the OP's "DRM failure" dialog? -

So by your logic a Ford Model T is superior to a Porsche. Sure, an IP camera could be outdated the next day, but an analog cam is outdated from the moment you buy it. -
Remote Cabin Monitoring Using Wired Network Cameras
dvarapala replied to mjp24coho's topic in General Digital Discussion
The thing one hears most often about satellite Internet access (besides the 500ms lag) is the extremely low uplink bandwidth. Your live video streaming may end up looking more like a slide show. If possible, you should try it out before you commit and make sure you can live with it. -
Arecont 8185DN won't keep ip address at first setup
dvarapala replied to wirefox's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
It's been a while since I did this, but on my AV1310DN one of the web pages has a "save these settings and make them the defaults" checkbox which you have to check if you want the settings saved to the camera's FLASH. Since this checkbox was on a separate page from the other settings I was using, I didn't notice it at first; could this be your problem, as well? -
You could lower the frame rate, although a 3MP IP cam is likely to be pretty low to begin with. You could also try switching from H.264 to MJPEG, if the camera supports it. H.264 uses less bandwidth on the network, but generally requires more CPU power to decompress. But long-term you should definitely plan on upgrading your CPU.

IP8332 Install help please
dvarapala replied to JamesBonham's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
So Vivotek's configuraiton software refuses to work unless it can "phone home" over the Internet? How annoying!! The good news is you don't need to use any special software to set up an IP8332 camera - just assign each one a unique (and fixed) IP address via your DHCP server and then connect to each one with a web browser. Hopefully your NVR software isn't also going to insist on "phoning home" before it will work... -
Good License Plate camera for under $150?
dvarapala replied to jokerone's topic in General Digital Discussion
Yup. As much as some people dislike Arecont Vision cameras, some of them do allow you to set a fixed shutter speed. That, along with the progressive scan image sensor, is why I chose an AV1310DN. -
I was installing an IP cam into an outdoor enclosure the other day using direct burial cat5e. Normally I would crimp an RJ-45 connector onto the end of the cable and plug it into the back of the camera, but this direct burial cable was much thicker than the standard stuff and despite several attempts I couldn't crimp the connector on successfully. I ended up punching down the Ethernet cable to a keystone RJ-45 jack that I happened to have handy, and then made up a 3" patch cord to run between that and the jack on the camera. Kludgy, but it works, and it's all hidden inside the camera housing. I'm wondering, however, if there is a more elegant solution? What would you pro installers have done?

Teltonika Telemarketer is Relentless
dvarapala replied to MidwestSurveillance's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I run a PBX called Asterisk. It's extremely flexible and powerful, and let's you get extremely creative with telemarketers and anyone else you don't want to call you. Here's an example of the fun you can have: http://www.voiptechchat.com/voip/286/asterisk-101-uses-telemarketer-torture/ -
What Would a Pro Have Done?
dvarapala replied to dvarapala's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
What sorts of jacks are these, and how are they mounted/enclosed? Is this some sort of weatherproof Ethernet jack that can mount inside a standard electrical box, or is this something different? Got any pics of these installs that you'd be willing to share? This is a great thread, I'm learning a lot. -
Dude had his truck broken into on Sunday. Despite an $11K CCTV system, no facial recognition, no license plates, perhaps nothing usable at all: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/off-topic/2969075-this-bastard-broke-into-my-truck-early-sunday.html

What Would a Pro Have Done?
dvarapala replied to dvarapala's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
All right, but what do you usually punch down to on the camera end when the camera has an RJ-45 jack instead of a punchdown block? A keystone jack, as I did, or something else? -
If this is what they're willing to do in full public view, can you imagine what those parcels go though when they're being loaded/unloaded "in private" from planes and trucks at the distribution centers? And yet somehow most of our packages arrive intact.

Need help with a home system after two break-ins
dvarapala replied to brasskey's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I understand your concern, but remember there are new people coming on board all the time, and some of them actually do a search before asking questions , so you're not necessarily talking to a wall. I myself have learned a tremendous amount from old threads on this forum, and I'll occasionally make responses to older threads specifically to help future explorers find their way.
