  1. Anyone remember GE's DVMRE-16CT ? If so I am looking for some expertise. I have a unit (S/N: D506T94460373, S/W: Ver.5.66, Boot Code: 1.03) with (4)-160Gig H/Ds. Two of the drives have failed over time so I now want to replace ALL (4) drives. I am trying to achieve the original 640Gig capacity using (2) 320Gig drives. When the DVR tries to format/configure the drives the unit only recognizes 458Gig??? Is there a system HD size limitation based on the age of the BIOS for that unit? Could there be a problem with the IDI cables or the input connections on the MB? Of course GE no longer supports that model... are there any 3rd party repair centers that can get parts and are certified to work on these units? Thanks in advance for your response...
  2. Anyone know if GE does anything different related to power supplies on Triplex units with 1,2,3 or 4 HDDs? I know at one point several years ago they upgraded the power supply from 5.17 to 5.2 amps. (the symtom was intermittent re-boot of the unit). I am seeing the same symtom now when upgrading a Triplex from one 80Gig HDD to (2) 300Gig HDDs. (yes, I am using a current version of their uploader s/w) Of course GE does not recommend or support such disrespect for their units so I am not getting much help from them or their regional rep. thanks, russ
  3. Morning Everyone, Has anyone seen or had any experience with a PC based system called the "School Guard Pro" by I.B.T. Video Systems, Inc.? The company is based out of Indiana and seems to be looking to target school districts with this product version. A description of the unit/configuration is at www.ibtvideosystems.com/schoolguard.htm I would appreciate any insight you may have or prior experience with this company if anyone has had any. russ
  4. Can anyone offer a little insight regarding a "real world" comparison of GE's DVMRE Pro DVR and Dedicated Micros' DS2 or DVIP? I have been using the GE (Kalatel) product for a while now and am quite comfortable with it but would like to know if anyone has found a "better bang for their buck" with another manufacturer... I know Rory always says "you get what you pay for" and with all the manufacturer's bla-bla-bla out there it's hard to keep up with what specifications and functionality are being offered and really make a difference to customers. Thanks... Russ

    Total IP Video Solution Needed

thanks for the information everyone... it'll get me started on my fact finding mission. Why IP... well the customer asked "why not" so I'm trying to get my head around the important issues related to the technology. Discussions about structured wiring, PoE and cost benefits are now topics when discussing video solutions with our bank customers. always interested in hearing the pros and cons of any emerging technology from people who have actually worked with it... I'll touch base with some of the manufacturers mentioned. Thanks again, russ
  6. Anyone know of (and have experience with) a total IP network video solution? I would prefer an "out of the box" type configuration. However, if the best solution would require the integration of a NVR with a variety of IP cameras and components I would appreciate your insight on the best stuff available. The application I am working on is financial video security so I need the ability to record based on motion yet recieve a trigger (relay closure) from the banks alarm system to begin recording all camera inputs at an increased programmable frame rate. I need both interior and exterior camera configurations with the ability to adjust the field of view based on the camera location (Teller, CSR, Vault, Lobby, Exit, Drive-up, ATM) etc. A storage capacity of 90 days will be required with the ability to access and export video remotely. I prefer to establish a standard system design because of the potential for this to "roll-out" to multiple locations. Thanks... really! russ

    DVR needs a Ghost!

thanks very much for the information. I have spoken to David at GE Security Tech Support and he hooked me up with up with a hosted website where GE posts a S/W application page. I was able to download their current DVR uploader utility software for the DVMRe (CT, EzT, Simplex), DVMRE PRO, StoreSafe, DSR2000e, etc. great resource... thanks rory. russ

    DVR needs a Ghost!

sounds very helpful, definately more helpful than GE and the regional rep has been. How would one get a copy of this "Triplexe Uploader"... is it one of those un-documented goodies on the GE tech website or is this a rory creation? In either case I would be interested in learning more about it and possibly getting my cold mid-atlantic hands on a copy to try. tell me more...
  10. Can anyone help... Does anyone know of a Ghosting utility/procedure in order to transfer the HTTP Server and associated launch software from a GE DVR drive to an "off-the-shelf" HDD. It seems that the GE DVR uses the Nucleous RTOS??? which will allow me to change out the factory drive with a non-formatted, non-partitioned HDD but I lose the HTTP Server and some functionality in the process. The goal here is to buy the GE unit with a 80 Gig HDD (lower cost) then replace the factory drive with (2) 300 Gig "off the shelf" drives without losing the HTTP Server and Wavelet Reader CD Launch software... Thanks for your help, really... anyone??? Looking for answers in the mid-atlantic.
