Focusing a MP camera
ChrisH replied to ChrisH's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Exclusively? What about that large job you have going now with Arecont cameras? Just using the ol laptop? Saw the Sanyo autofocus in person also. It was pretty amazing concept. -
Do you integrate with Exacq much? I was looking at their website and noticed that have a fair amount of partners they integrate with.

I'm trying to find a low cost option for a monitor on a multiplexer. I'd like a larger screen (20+ and flat) as it will normally be on a quad screen. The only output i have on the multiplexer is a BNC. I could use a HD TV, but I don't think this is a great option since it will be 16:9 resolution and my cameras are going to look worse on it. If I go to a 4:3 monitor I cannot connect it because it only has VGA in. Any thoughts?

If I were to go with a widescreen TV and keep it on quad view, do you think it will still look stretched?

Ubiquiti - what do there products do exactly?
ChrisH posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Pretty much what the subject says. I read some past posts about using some of their products to wirelessly transmitt video. They don't have much info on their website. At least for the uninformed like me. Just curious what there products do and where they are applicable. Thanks for the help. -
Are the VBM-24VF still available? All I found on their website are the VBM-20VF, are these the same but new model?????

Avigilon Software
ChrisH replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Avigilon for both cameras and VMS. Only the 3 different H.264 cameras will work with other VMS providers using ONVIF. Both are great products and I have a great relationship with Exacq and I want to keep that going. I will offer both VMS platforms to my customer and let them chose which one is best for there needs. I like Avigilon because it is an end to end solution and you can't find prices on the web " title="Applause" /> " title="Applause" /> " title="Applause" /> " title="Applause" /> You can only buy through dealers no online sales " title="Applause" /> " title="Applause" /> " title="Applause" /> Got it. It is nice that the pricing stays in the dealers hands only. It helps from the customer doing an end around on you with prices they found on the internet. As far as the VMS's is the price point close to the same between the two? -
Avigilon Software
ChrisH replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
So are you looking to Avigilon for a camera, VMS solution or both? I know earlier you said that the Avigilon VMS was very nice to use, so are you going to still sell Exacq also? Just curious. Or do they both have there own niches? -
Ubiquiti - what do there products do exactly?
ChrisH replied to ChrisH's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The possibilities are great. I can think of some situations where this could be a good solution, especailly for retrofits. -
Hello all, I found this site a few weeks ago and have been doing a lot of reading. Thanks for all the great info on here. I work for an electrical contractor that does a fair amount of low voltage work, cameras, card access, burg panels, etc. What I have been finding the most difficult part is getting reps/suppliers to tell the whole truth and in the end getting a good product. What I am looking for is your opinions on company's that offer various forms of video storage solutions and have worked well for you. We used to use Ganz/CBC DVR's, but we had some problems with them and are now looking for a better solution. I have some Digital Watchdog demo stuff coming this week, but have not heard too much favorable things about them either. The majority of the installs we do would require a mid grade to high end DVR and lately I have been getting quite a few requests to ugrade to IP/MP systems. We currently have no solution for this that we use and I would really like it if the same company would provide a wide range of products from DVR's to NVR's to Hybrid units, possibly all using the same software. Tech support/Rep support is also a huge selling point. I've been dealing with some customers older Honeywell systems lately and I cannot stand talking to someone I can barley understand anymore. So in a nut shell, I'm looking for an end to end solution, good tech/rep support, easy to navigate/use software and a decent all around product. Am I asking too much? Oh, and I am located in the Midwest. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Thanks -
The concept is interesting, but watching the youtube clip made me dizzy. It looks like the camera is just constantly jumping around.

Erron, you are exactly correct. I'd much rather buy from someone who understands the big picture than the someone who is just trying to make a sale and move on. I'll give you a call. Thanks Thanks to the rest of you for your knowledge. I have taken some basic online networking courses and do have a general knowledge, but I love to learn and it will expand. As far as the Vigil vs. Exacq any other opinions. -
Avigilon Software
ChrisH replied to thewireguys's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I don't have my notes in front of me, but as I recall in a phone conversation with Exacq technical support prior to the 4.4 release, they were not planning to implement all of ONVIF. That issue aside and more important, I don't think I can add an Avigilon camera to my existing Exacq NVR and record MJPEG on camera motion at this time. Several of my cameras support H.264 and the bandwidth reduction is very compelling and H.264 certainly has it's uses, but I use MJPEG nonetheless, even for HD resolution. I'd rather limit the IPS in exchange for increased detail. Please keep us informed regarding your impressions of IQEye. Those cameras are supported by Exacq. Best, Christopher I would love to put two images side by side one H.264 and one MJPEG and see if you can identify the compressions. So far with IQEye I have yet to see an image that I am impressed with. I just want to learn about them so I know how to sell when I am competing with them. So far not including the Pro series the 5MP box camera is the best image I have seen from a ip camera. Sorry cant post pricing Do you mean the 5MP Avigilon box camera? -

What I don't want to do is wait around for someone else in my area to start doing the IP/MP work. Even though I don't know much about it now I need to jump in at some point. Why not now. That is the main reason I'm looking for a partner company that will have decent product/techincal support. That way I have someone behind me when I do run into a problem, or application question. Some names I have seen pop up quite often around here are Exacq and 3xlogic. Anyone have experience with either of these companies? Thanks for your input. -
Conduit for Outdoor CCTV System
ChrisH replied to create's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Hi, From an electricians point of view I would go the electrical PVC route. Will not corrode anywhere and easy to make wether tight. Also 99% of the time I always install the size lager then I really need. Pip will be a little stronger as well as giving you room for changes you may make down the road. If you install the smallest pipe you can get away with and down the road you want to add wires you will also have to change out the pipe to a larger size. Up-sizing your pipe from the start is easy and the difference in price is small. I would agree with Merlin. I am also an electrician and not to be rude, but if your asking, you don't have experience in running conduit, so PVC is definatley the way to go. You don't have to use a conduit bender like with the galv pipe. You can also buy the fittings/bends you need and if you get in a pinch you can heat the pipe with a heat gun and bend it that way. It is also very inexpensive, so yes upsize a bit. Good luck. -

Thursday Best I have seen for image quality and speed. Congrats, hope you do well with them. Let us know how it goes. Did they get you any ballpark pricing? I asked for some and supposidly it's coming. I wanted to see how far out the stuff was before I went any farther. -
Ubiquiti - what do there products do exactly?
ChrisH replied to ChrisH's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Ok, that is what I was thinking. So basically, if I had a camera away from a building that the CCTV electronics were housed in, I would just take a network cable (Cat 5e) to one of these and mount it to the outside of the building to recieve and mount another by my camera to send. Basically they bridge the network through the open air? Are they hard to set up or fairly basic. The possibilities seem endless with something like this. -

Not to get too far from my OP.....I do have some IT knowledge, but obviously I don't know what I don't know so I'm not sure how versed in IT I need to be to roll out an IP solution. We do work with a third party IT guy for small business that either do their own or subcontract someone out of house. Thanks for the concern, I'm with you. -
Avigilon Software

Are any of you resellers yet? We had an Avigilon rep give us the dog and pony show last week. Looks like some VERY nice stuff. Could you just get the software off their website?
