  1. Hi, I have three PC's I can use for a Geovision dedicated PC Video server. The dedicated PC will be used only for this purpose. I am using Geovision 7.0 if that matters. I want to know which one it will run best on (I dont want it to be overkill but "get the job done right"). System 1: Asus Intel 845 mobo (P4PE) 2.8 GHZ (no HT, single core) 1 gig of ram 300 gig hard drive ATI 9800 pro video card System 2: Asus P4C-800-E Delxue (Intel 865) 3.2 ghz (HT) 1 gig of ram 300 gig hard drive ATI X800XT Video card System 3: Asus (I like asus) P5WD2 Premium (Intel 955) 3.2 Dual Core (OC'ed to 4ghz) 2 gigs of ram 300 gig hard drive ATI 18000XT video card Which one would do the job without being overkill? I dont want diminishing returns (if the 2.8 will do the job)?

Which PC specs for a Geovision PC based system.

I am surprised the Dual core wouldnt work well in this application (just surprised it would make a difference). I have a 99 Wrangler sport btw.
  3. Hi, I purchased a 1000 feet of siamese cable & tonight I got to experience first hand crappy cables with crappy adapters. So, when I do the crimping, I am using this kit: http://www.tequipment.net/Ideal33-303.asp?OVRAW=ideal%2033-303&OVKEY=ideal%2033%20303&OVMTC=standard I want to get a nice BNC connector so the video feed isnt messy. Could someone suggest a place to get them or what I should be looking for (gold plated, etc)? Thanks, Rich
  4. Hi, I am using Geovision 7 & I have 6 cameras setup at the moment. Rory helped setup my camera #1 (it was the only one at the time). The other 5 cameras were added by me. I am having problems setting the resolution. Right now everything is set for the 720xXXX size however, when I have a motion detection recording, it is recording at 320x240 & at 8kbps for the data. The camera 1 is recording at 720x480 & is getting 28kbps of data for the avi file. Camera 1 is clearly crisper than the other 5 but I think that is due to my software configuration. How do I make it the higher resolution? Thanks, Rich
  5. Right, there is "Configure - Video Source" Then the top on is NTSC, then the second one says "720x480 Deinterlaced". Then I click "Configure - System Configure - camera 1 - recording quality - then i click on the green arrow & it says already 720x480" When I look at the AVI files, only camera 1 is recording at 720x480, cameras 2-6 are set for the same thing but they are only recording at the 360x240 setting.
  6. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I followed (and understood) your instructions. For some reason, camera 1 (the one you setup), when I look at the avi files (right click & properties, then summary), says camera one is 720x480, data rate is 561 kbps, video sample size is 24bit). Cameras 2-6 (which you didnt setup), says that each AVI file is: 360x240 (the rest of the info is the same). Even though Geovision is set to use that higher resolution, it is not doing so (for some reason).
  7. Hi, I made a purchase here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5856734950 I am not 100% sure this was the right cable to use for a CCTV setup. Anyone know if I bought the wrong thing? Thanks, Rich

    Is R59 & R59U the same thing?

Yep, thats my plan too! I did check & on the wire it said how many feet, plus it said RG59U, so I guess I a m good to go!
  9. Hi, I have all but one camera disabled in my geovision system. I forget how to reenable disabled cameras (turn them on & off). Any ideas on where to get that feature? Thanks, Rich

    Is R59 & R59U the same thing?

    40 - 50 feet maybe?
  11. Hi, I just swapped out a R58 (50 foot) cable with a prebuilt siamese cable. The cable was BNC on one end & RCA on the other, I used an adapter connector to make the rca into BNC. The image looks a little worse to me with the combo cable. The combo cable is 150 feet. Could that be the issue? Thanks Rich
  12. Hi, I am looking at my video screen (with one test camera on a cheapie cable). It looks like the video is showing for 5 seconds, then stopping for a sec & then continuing. I want to make sure that the FPS is at the right speed. With one camera I would think it would take a full 30 fps. The pc has a geovision 900, 3ghz, 1gig of ram, 80 gig hd, nvidia 5700, Asus p4pe. I cant figure where the lag is coming from (the cheap camera or the 58 cable (not the standard 59, not sure how much of a difference that makes). Or it might be the 7f weather for a camera that is rated to -5c. Any ideas? Thanks, Rich
  13. One question, who do I find out the frames per second? Do I goto the configuration menu, choose video attributes, then choose advanced. Is the kbs on the right the frames per second? Is there somewhere in the program that shows what the fps rate is? Thanks, Rich
  14. Is there some setting I might have missed or something I would have turned on to cause that? Is it possible that the RG-58 cable might be the cause? I have a RG 59 siamese cable that just came in the mail from ebay.
  15. Another Lexie video with more stuttering: http://www.dana44.com/lexie2.avi
  16. Here is another smaller image. It looks great until then end & then you see the stutter: http://www.dana44.com/lexie.avi
  17. Here is a sample of the image quality & also the stuttering I was speaking of: www.dana44.com/stuttering.Avi its 2.5 megs, let me know if I should find a smaller example. Right now, the camera is sitting outside in the 5 degree weather here & seems to mostly be working fine. The PC had to be rebooted because I lost video signal. Again, this is with my configuration settings. They are mostly default but I did just turn the motion detection settings down from 9 to 5 (I was getting email notifications ever few minutes). Also the motion detector log records every 2 minutes (I dont even see leaves moving). Thanks, Rich
  18. Hi, I keep playing around with my camera (which I am starting to feel is a little stinky). I cant seem to get the resolution past 320x240 with a Geovision DVR. I am changing the settings in the geovision but I cant seem to see a difference between 320 vs 640 vs 7** (I forget the 700 number). It looks identical to me within the main settings. Is it possible my camera cant do more than 320x240 resolution? Or am I doing something wrong here? Thanks, Rich
  19. Thanks again: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5854108497 Thats my camera but I am planning on ordering on from Andrew (a few actually)!
  20. The source right now is set at the 320 setting, but I guess what I was saying, is that even if I swap the 320 setting to the 640 setting, the picture is not any clearer (crisp). It looks like there is no difference at all & I would think that I should be seeing a better image. I am using the main "multicam" program on the server itself (where all the options are). The camera is that ebay "Sony 1/3 CCD, HAD, etc" (which it probably isnt". I am just looking at the monitoring mode at the moment. I will have the final server (its in a test machine right now) up & running in a week or two while I buy the equipment. I dont think the hard drive is bad. Right now there is nothing else being run on the server. Just symantec antivirus. If I am missing information, please let me know what you would like. Thanks for the help, Rich

    Best camera mount?

I am looking for a camera mount that will let me mount a camera on the side of a house. I see lots of brackets, are there certain brands that are best? Other factors to consider when buying a bracket?

    Best camera mount?

The camera has a mounting bracket on the top & bottom as it turns out. I am not sure that is the same camera, the one I have is supposed to be a 1/3 ccd. Is there any way to check the size of the CCD? (Who knows when dealing with ebay of course Is the sunscreen important when considering a bullet camera? I am getting some sort of lag using a 58 cable (I didnt have a 59 handy) which is about 50 feet long. I am getting a slight delay as well. The system is a 3ghz asus p4pe mobo with a nvidia 5700 ultra, 1 gig of ram, etc. I would think that with only 1 camera in the system it would be smooth.
  23. Hi, My camera is rated to -5 c, the weather around here can get to 5f (colder than -5c). What will happen to the camera if it is run outside its specs? Does it freeze & never work, or does it not work well in situations under -5c? Does it do damage having it outdoors past that point? Thanks, Rich

    Best camera mount?

sorry, its a bullet type camera, for outdoor usage. This is the one I have right now but I am going to buy a few other cameras as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5854108497
