Always willing to try something new. Let me know. I'm not against new technology just new technology that doesn't seem to add anything new for what we need. -
DVR card options now that Netvision doesn't sell them
sirotz posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I have been a long-time Hikvision/Netvision/xxxxxvision user/builder. Now that Netvision isn't selling the capture cards anymore it's left me high and dry. Their main factory is requiring an order of 200 min. That's not going to happen. What are my options for acquiring either more of these cards or other pc based cards? Please don't try and talk me into IP or embedded. They currently don't work for the industry I work with and what I do with the DVR's. (see reasons below) I am waiting for HD-CVI and or TVI to have better cards and that might be what I go with (if ever) but I need to figure out what I will do in the mean time. I'm not opposed to a full LINUX option but it needs to be a FULL version. I typically run other programs off of the DVRs. (remote control program, a slideshow video, shutdown program for our battery backups and sometimes an external drive to backup other PC's on site) I've reached out to Geovision and Nuuo but I don't have any experience with Nuuo and both are much more expensive than the xxxxxvision. Plus they only support 32 cams. (We have 48 at the largest site) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all Reasons for no IP - distance limitations would add extra complexity - Systems in general add extra complexity when troubleshooting (these are practically unmanned sites) - re-running infrastructure isn't an option - Adding converters would just add complexity. This needs to be simple and reliable - Quality isn't important. It needs a picture not facial recognition Reasons for no embedded - Technology changes too often and thus changes on everything works. Needs to be standard and STAY standard - Some our our sites are as large as 48 cameras. Multiple systems adds complexity and failure points - I usually run other programs on the DVRs. Even if it's just for the battery backups and remote control - Repairable is much better than throw away -

I am located in the United States. Illinois, Chicago land area. it's tough to say. I feel that people are going all embedded or IP. I feel like I also may be on the fringe of this. I think HD-TVI capture cards would be awesome and possibly bring things back. One thing I hate about PC based is paying for a windows license. I think a full Linux install would be amazing. Netvision has a good thing with the NVSS but it's IP only. I just want options especially because one size doesn't fit all. I love PC based because it's modular, allowing for easy upgrades and repairs. I think one thing that hurt the PC based so bad was the extreme price gouging. When embedded were thousands less people started to naturally think PC based were too expensive and didn't offer any different features. I think if the positives can be made known and prices stay in check it's possible to see it come back. -
Where do I find BNC backplanes!!!!!

Awesome I will start there. It's really funny on how hard this is to find out. Thanks for a bit more direction. I will post my results after contacting them. As long as we can stay off of the bad credit customers It's funny that you are switching to mid-size from 4U. I'm doing just the opposite. I loved the 3U cases we were using and it worked well except the sorta server room they always provided me was always extremely inadequate for cooling of any kind. With a 48 cam system and all passive cards things were starting to get a bit well...odd. Im hoping the 4U is going to give a bit better overall performance in terms of cooling. Although the old Honeywell's burned up faster then anything I've done. It is one advantage to being in house. -
New to the site hopefully after some searching I didn't find exactly what I was looking for. So quick background I work for a storage company that builds our own DVR's for our sites. We just acquired 6 more sites that are in SEVER need of our upgrades. Our typical hardware software is the Hikvision/Netvision. Owners love it, we love it, and managers love it. Does everything we need but uses those dang breakout cables like alot of dvr systems use. Our systems range from 16 cam to 48 cam. The new capture cards finally allow internal connection to BNC backplane's and we want to do this. Problem is who makes the freaking backplanes. Istar USA makes great cases with the cutouts for them but they have no idea who makes the backplanes. Neither does hikvision. We acquired a busted up digiview system with one of the sites and they use the istar case and a backplane with the same pin configuration that the hikvision cards use. They were made by say security but they tell me they can only provide a 16cam backplane. I need at lease 32 (48 might be too messy). Please if anyone can help let me know. I added a link to the Istar 4u case and it's optional backplanes. http://www.istarusa.com/rackmount_chassis/product/D-400SE/4U_Compact_Stylish_Rackmount_Chassis.aspx
