Will do Isaac - sometime after 4-20 when they're scheduled to land. Soon thereafter I'll have one four states to the east of your southern half (as seen from space).

"Dealer's only" still missing in action. This link used to take me straight there: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewforum.php?f=20

Working fine here in so cal... except that the forum now appears officially "dealer's only" free (would have posted comment elsewhere but can't... it's gone). Hey CollinR... you're alright! Anyone with a desktop nearly as populated as mine is okay with me

Any opinions of Dedicated Micros, digital sprites?
KrCCTV replied to MattVidionics's topic in Digital Video Recorders
My two cents... Sold a half dozen digital sprites a few years ago - two or three had "apparent" drive problems within months. Sold none since but have heard of them having "drive issues." Have sold over 50 of another mfr's dvr's in the last six months all with two Maxtor's in each and have not had one failure yet. Have a feeling that all DM problems may not be in fact "drive problems" or were drive problems created by their host (I have seen drives "corrupted" by DVR's). Only recent experience was my CPA who got a D4, new, through a "friend" last year and recently wanted to know how to offload an incident to a CD. DM site says all companies who made compatible CD R/W's have discontinued them. A.K.A. S.O.L. Upside - it comes with a thick manual. Downside - it contains little info repeated in many, many languages. -
"All Digital" IP cameras
KrCCTV replied to Airick's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Or... better yet buy a really good analog camera (lots more choices to get the perfect camera for your application)... and then run it through a video server at some point if you must. -
Good eye Jasper... I will inquire further. I know it is .003 on all our fixed cameras that use their DSS but those are also SuperHAD's without the ICR (Mech. Cut)... so I suppose it is possible that with this using the ExView and the Mechanical Cut Filter... together with DSS that lower is possible. At any rate needs to be better explained otherwise it comes off as conflicting. Thanks.

No Rory - I'm a distributor for Samsung. This IS the unit. And what's with the "decent" comment on the specs - we're talking "the bomb." I'll have a demo for ya to see in about a month. And remember... "the bomb."

Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) will give you all the control you need. Typically programmed in very easy to learn Ladder Logic (or newer ones with funtion block programming). Scalable, with built in real-time clocks, timers, counters all pretty standard. Basically a small specialized programmable industrial computer, power supply, backplane and I/O Modules designed just for applicatiions like yours. Now often also monitored / supervisory controlled with graphical user interface software that runs on a PC. Need to count output points and consider using very low voltage relay outputs with intrinsically safe (IS) barriers to the wipers (typical in hazardous environments - can't cause sparks). The "controls" folks at the plant will likely know all about PLC's and/or maybe in their case DCS Systems (Distributed Control Systems) and may be able to direct you to an automation systems integrator who could very easily do the work if it's beyond something you want to get in to. Ideally somebody who already does work at the facility, etc. Additionally they are probably standardized on one manufacturers PLC or another and might be especially interested in having you use the same for lots of good reasons.

I give free demos Rory. They're called "IP Addresses" Hey Rory... check this baby out - - It's "the bomb" dome dude (has my noise reduction thing goin' on too). We expect stock to arrive stateside late next month. Worth a look!!!: http://www.samsungcctv.com/product/file_data/manual/20060222_0_0602.SPD3300.E.cata.pdf

Can you set up some motion triggered lights in the warehouse (like "Home Depot type" typically used in the front of one's house... like on the driveway)? Off by day, motion triggered by night (all kind of automatic you know?)
-
Well... maybe not "integrated" and maybe not what you're looking for... and maybe nothing new to you but anyway here is what I wrote before I re-read your original post and remembered that it wasn't a newbie asking... Ignore as necessary... Just not a good option with PTZ domes but very do-able with the good old long boxy varieties. Take for example Pelco Legacy PTZ stuff (last I knew... couple of years ago... still, unfortunately, not an option with IOP Esprit product)... anyway any PTZ where Illuminators (like lamp type probably not LED) can be attached to the camera housing (needs a beefy PT Driver)... so it moves with it. Limited life expectancy on everything mechanical and "lampy" of course and IR (if, for example optimized for distance) will probably overachieve or underachieve at opposing distance. I think Extreme had a Pelco/Extreme co-op (or oem) hybrid thing couple years ago but cant find it easily now (actually can't find anything easily on Extreme's site). BTW Pelco offered "lamp" Illuminators with either "spot" (distance) or "flood" (coverage) bulb choices. Probably an especially good "gig" if you could land maintenance (bulb replacement) service contract.

Cool - - check it out right now for a "shifted load" problem. No wonder things don't always work when they get here... they've fallen off a truck in China.
-
Oh... but that would have killed all the "learning fun" that comes from such "ebay PTZ purchase" experiences...
-
Yeah Joe but from what I understand they also have much more of a "you bought it you own it policy - not conducive to wireless in my opinion" and they happily sell outside of distribution. Anyone know different please advise - - until then I'd never recommend it.
-
No JMAN - think you missed that. The problematic ebay PTZ that "started" this thread is not from Merit Lilin - - someone else actually suggested Merit Lilin as a professional alternative to it (that gives you an idea of how low this thread actually started).
-
No... I think that's it. It's a camera "looking" at a blue screen. Awesome, huh!

Embedded DVR's Hardware specifications.
KrCCTV replied to kandcorp's topic in Digital Video Recorders
That's embedded's greatest selling point... "Who cares - they work!" (Sorry... just couldn't resist - - I'll be interested too in others' "useful" comments). -
But the thing came with the wrong size phone plug Rory - - it's too big and doesn't fit in to the stupid hole in my wall.

Having watched this push from the beginning (at least here in the US) I'll sum it up. It’s all about an attempt by Axis Communications (more generally "the Swedes") for world domination (it actually started with their development of print servers for IBM mainframes). That’s why to this day so many IP cameras look like Volvos. Thankfully it’s still (despite all the hogwash) a terribly lousy approach to many a serious security application. Its success to date rests greatly on the premise that it’s easier to teach an IT guy about cameras than a camera guy about networking. It’s up to us to change that around. (so will any of you that understand networking please sum it up real simply for me – that crap gives me a headache).

Made in Taiwan... http://www.meritlilin.com/ ... Go get'em...

You're right on the conversion (I converted from Euro's not Pounds - don't know my international monetary symbols from a hole in the ground). I would say though that you can do still better than Merit Lilin. Have a buddy that's had way too many problems with those too (power supply and overall life expectancy issues). Maybe you get a better quality version over there... dunno.

Great question Joe (and feedback Rory). I found the same thing in testing with our version Joe. It does switch to B/W (so long as you have "color" set to "auto" under the "special" setting in the menu) but it definately does not have a mechanical cut filter. In testing it saw the IR but just barely (and not enough for it to be useful). It's not supposed to... rather it is a low cost 540TVL DSS color camera with (Digital Noise Reducton) that has an amazing ability to see (in color) with no added IR. It will be most appreciated in low-light (but not no-light) applications, especially when adding IR would be cost prohibitive and/or challenging for other reasons. In no-light applications where you can use IR, or where you are most interested in very-low-light functionality and will have a problem with the slow-shutter aspects of DSS then you'll definately want the mechanical cut filter (ICR) day/night cameras.

About $450USD for camera and keyboard (pretty cheap). Thanks for the feedback.
-
Typically "D" is run at 2400 baud and "P" at 9600 but you should be able to change it in one place or another (or both). Look for little dip switches on the back side of the inner dome drive (assuming it's "modular") and/or the back or bottom of the keyboard. I guess it could also be configurable in menu settings or even be "auto-sensing." If you're really up for a challenge consult the manuals looking for any info on "baud rate settings." I would try to change the keyboard to match the dome and run at 2400 baud.

Thanks for the greater detail. Unfortunately I don't have much to offer (though I expect others will). My only thoughts are (all stuff you probably already thought about) that I think you'll need something with flash-type memory (low power consumption and ultimate vibration resistance) as opposed to a mechanical hard drive. If you find that you must have a mechanical hard drive (because maybe you can't get or afford the storage necessary in flash… then of course laptop hard drives are at least smaller, more vibration-resistant and smaller than IDE but I still see problems in this area – mostly power-related). I know folks who are working on single-channel solutions, similar to what you are talking about, for the military but of course they're not cheap. Aside from that though I would imagine that if they can do a single channel version then given more processing power, more electrical power, increased size and weight (and money) then what you seek is possible. As to imagers…“digitalâ€
