  1. Have any of you added dyndns to a geovision pc, and if so, does it cause any problems? If not, what other methods are you using to log in remotely with a dynamic ip that changes often?
  2. Yes. I already have a dyndns name at this location. They are in the process of purchasing a new sonic wall, and until then I need to access the system remotely via dyndns. When the new sonicwall arrives, it will take care of the dyndns and I can remove it from the geo pc.
  3. Well, the problem was a polarity issue! The guy that wired before me didn't have a uniform way of wiring and wired some backwards! My question now is why did the power supply not trip the breaker? Other power boxes I have used tripped the breaker when the polarity was reversed. Is this not a feature on all power supply boxes? Also, how much damage can be done to a camera by reversing the polarity?
  4. I will be setting up a 32-cam system with the new v8.3 software. I will be using 2 gv-1480 cards. I would like to set up 2 32" lcd monitors and connect the composite video out on the 1480 card to the 32" lcd monitor. This way I will have 16 cams on one monitor, and 16 cams on another. Is this the best way to accomplish what I am trying to do? Is there a better way, or a way that will produce a "better" picture? Thanks.

    performance between procesors

If you only have one gv-1480 card a dual core is enough. Use 2 gigs of memory or more. Memory is cheap. My system has 2 gv-1480 cards with 32 cameras. I am running a quad core with 3 gigs of ram. It flies.

32 cam geo system with v8.3 auto load

I solved my long load time problem. I somehow checked the box to "startup silently hide into system status bar" option on the startup autologin setup. For whatever reason this was causing the software 5+ minutes to load. As soon as I unchecked it, load time went down to about 10 seconds! I hope this will help someone out.
  7. What is the best way to have geovision start when windows starts using v8.3? Also, for those of you that have 2 gv-1480 cards in one pc running v8.3, how long does it take to load? It is taking me over 5 minutes for the program to start! Am I doing something wrong, or does it take this long normally? Thanks.
  8. Do any of you allow remote access to your geovision pc's so that you can troubleshoot remotely off location? If so, do you use built in remote access for xp pro or something else?

    Remote Access and Geovision PC

Do you find ultra vnc to work without any issues on the geovision server? Does it interfere in any way with anything? If not, I'll give it a try as I use it for everything else. I just thought is might interfere somehow.
  10. I have an upcoming install that requires: - 32 cameras - up to 50 or more users possibly remotely viewing certain cameras I normally do not use pc based dvr's. However, due to the amount of users logging in I think in this situation I have to, as it is my only cost effective option. I haven't set one up in ages, and was wondering if the specs below will work with the new 8.3 software and 2 1480 pci cards installed on a single dedicated pc. I want to keep it simple and have one pc doing the job. Here are the specs, please let me know if they are overkill and I can get away with less, or not enough and I need more. XPS 420 Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Processor Q9450 (12MB Cache,2.66GHz,1333FSB) Operating System Genuine Windows XP PRO Memory 3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs Video Cards ATI Radeon HD 3450 256MB supporting HDMI OS & Software Hard Drive 500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache 2 Seagate SV Series 1 TB Hard Drives Optical Drive Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability Sound Cards Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

Check PC Specs for new 8.3 Software

Here are my updated specs: INTEL C2Q 2.66ghz Intel Q45 board with 10/100/1000 and High Definition 8.1 Audio 3GB 800MHZ MEMORY WD 160GB 72K SATA2 8400GS 512MB RAM VIDEO CARD LITEON 20X DVDRW BLACK DH-20A4P-04 All Intel Chipsets With the new version 8.3 coming out you can install 2 1480 cards in one pc. One of them must be a pci express.
  12. I have been away from cctv for quite some time. I am going to install 4 Nuvico ir day/night bullet cams onto a brick surface on each of the 4 corners of a building. Wire has been run and is sticking out of the brick. I plan on mounting weatherproof single gang boxes with blank metal covers and screwing the cams directly into the covers, placing all wires inside the box, then using silicone as sealant leaving the bottom unsealed in case water gets in. The cam does not have a channel for the single power/video cable, so I will have to somehow drill a hole big enough to fit the cable into the box, and then seal the hole. Is this the best way to accomplish this, or is there a better way? Thanks.

    GV 8.3 Coming in February

Well from what I have heard you can have up to 32 cameras running on one pc, which is nice.
  15. cctv queer? What does that name mean? Thanks for the recommendation, but although the camera you mention is great and I have used it, it is WAY out of the budget for this job. And I don't need support I just need a 1 year warranty which it has. I was just wondering if the Nuvico bullet is that much superior, because it does cost substantially more when you need over 20 cameras.
  16. You screw the camera into the cover and attach the cover to the box after you screw the box into the wall! Use whatever type screws you need for the material you are screwing into.
  17. All of my cameras in this particular system pull between 500 and 1000 milliamps. I am looking at a power supply that has these specs: Output: 24V AC/ 16 Output Supply Current: 5amp Max Amp: 1.1 Amp/Channel Does that mean each of the 16 channels will support a camera pulling 1 amp?
  18. I am getting a 24vac central power supply rated at 10 amps.

    Cable help

If you can get cat6 for around the same price as cat5 use it. You only need plenum if required by electric code. Plenum is a lot more expensive.
  20. Just confirmed with Nuvico it takes 500mA on the 24V side as well.
  21. Do you know what it takes on the 24v side?
  22. Here is the camera: http://nuvico.com/downloadfile.htm?id=132
  23. I just installed a Nuvico EV DVR and internet viewing is not possible with a mac operating system. Are any dvrs compatible with a mac operating system, or must the mac os be running windows to work? Thanks.

    Geo system advice needed

Took a look at a job today. There are currently 16 cameras, all different makes. Pc based system with a geo card with the lowest recording fps, and no live view. Pc is a p4 dell with xp and 256 ram. All done with cat 5 and baluns. Very sloppy, but actually works and doesn't look half bad, except no live view. Customer wants to add 10 more cameras. I use Nuvico for my cameras, so will prob go with the Nuvixo hi res domes. Never used cat 5 with baluns, but since they did might give it a try because it will be so much easier to pull. I'll double up on the power lines. My main question is, since i cannot access the geovision website, can I add another 16 port geo card to the pc which is already running a 16 port card. I would like to add a 480 fps card and possibly replace the other card to a 480 fps, but I'm not sure if the pc can handle 2 cards. I would also like to upgrade the ram to 2gb because it should help. What do you think? Any suggestions? I have never done a pc system, always stand alone dvr. Thanks.
