Thank you guys. Would you suggest any other covert method beside the wall clock? The only reason why I will probably go with it is the customer wants it. If there is a much better way, and I can convince him of it, I will try that. Thanks again.

For some reason cameras 13-16 do not show any motion while watching playback on this dvr. I have the dvr set to mid+ recording at 4 fps across the board for 10 cameras. Is this a nuvico thing? Is there a way to have camera 16 show motion instead of just showing an image every 15 seconds? Thanks.

I set up a 10 camera system using the above power panel. For some reason, 5 of the cameras shorted out 5 of the 12v outputs on the panel. I switched the wires to other 12v outputs on the panel, and the same thing happened. It turns out someone miswired the crimp on connection which connect to the cameras and this shorted out the panel. I had to double up some cameras on the panel in order to get them to work because I did not know how to reset the panel, if it could be done at all. I am not sure if the fuses need to be replaced, or just reset somehow. Does anyone know the answer to this? Can I somehow reset the fuses, or do I have to replace them? Thanks.

Normally to hook a dvr to a tv I would use a bnc to rca connector. If a tv doesn't have an rca input, can you attach the dvr to the tv via f connector? (bnc out from the dvr then f connector to tv).

I did my first "big" install today. Big for me is 10 cameras. It was the first time I used twist on bnc's, and they worked great. You can't pull them off at all. I need a new stripper however, because the was destroying the braids. All in all it went well, except for one camera that had lines in it. the other cameras are crystal clear. What could cause lines? There is no power near the wire. Could it just be a bad connection with the bnc?

I have a possible job at a wharehouse, and was wondering what type of camera would be best to use. I have not seen the site yet, but I am guessing it is pretty large as it is a trucking transport company. This is a very general question because I have not yet met with the owner to see what he wants, I was just wondering what types of cameras work best in wharehouses. The largest job I have done was a 10-cam system, dvr, with outdoor day/night bullet cams, and indoor smoke detector cams. Depending on what he wants and where the system will be set up will determine pc or dvr, but for now I just would like to know a general idea of what cameras most of you use for wharehouses. Thanks.

I was wondering how any of you handle your accounting software on your laptops? How do you share the database? Right now I have quickbooks on my pc, but I would also like to install it on my laptop. The problem is making sure the data is always up to date on both machines. I was thinking of installing the database on my laptop and using it as a server for my pc so that the database is in one place and always up to date. Both machines would share the database, and when I am on the road the laptop still has the database available. I don't know if this can be done. What are most of you doing to accomplish this? Thanks.

Would the z46's be the most cost effective armor dome, and can they be mounted both horizontally and vertically? Thanks.
-
Ultra. It's not horrible, but there is a difference.
-
Would the b/w whiz kid domes you suggested for the bar also be usefull in the wharehouse? Would you stick to b/w or is color an option. I guess it depends on the lighting.

I always do that, but don't you notice that when you go full screen the speed suffers a little?
-
I have noticed since I updated to a 19" lcd on my pc that when I access it from another pc via vnc the screen is way too big. I have to scroll everywhere. Any suggestions? I know I can set the screen to auto, but then the speed suffers.
-
I have vnc. I think that might be my best option. I was just wondering if anyone had any different solutions.

I have never set up a ptz. I am aware of what they are, but I need to do some reading on how to set them up and operate them. Where can I find this info? Also, b/w or color armor domes?

Best Location of Outdoor Camera's
fas replied to Tom the Handyman's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
What would be the reason for using a box camera? Is it better resolution? -
I am designing a home system for someone who wants to be able to watch each camera on every tv in the house. All the cable runs are homerun to a location. I will need a 4 channel modulator to broadcast the cameras on 4 unused channels, and possibly a channel filter. How do I modulate each individual camera? I am thinking that it needs to be connected to the modulator before it gets connected to the dvr. Should I use a 2 way splitter to connect to both the dvr and modulator?

It's on an apartment building. There are 4 cameras on each wall, so yes it is in a different part, but then they all are. I haven't been back, but I think the problem could be as simple as a bad bnc connection. I used twist ons, and my stripper is old. I think I may have stripped all the braiding off, or maybe a single braid is touching the center. I had to jam all the wiring into an outdoor box which was very difficult to do, so maybe that is the cause. I didn't do the wiring, but the person who did, did not leave much room, and the leads from the camera where so long, I had to crunch everything in.
-
yes it is. All into a ups.

What are loop through connections?
-
I am using a single power supply for all the cameras. It's one power box, not a plug in for each camera.
-
What's the best way to split the signal then so that one connection can go to the dvr and one to the modulator?
-
siamese with single power supply for all cams. Can a ground loop only affect 1 cam? I haven't been back to test it yet.

I did a lot of searching on this forum for setting up cctv in a bar. It seems a lot of you like the whizkid domes. The bar I will be working in is low light. Anyone have an idea on pricing for these cameras? Also, any difference using a dvr vs pc based system for a bar? Thanks.
-
ok, well I just found out the guy wants the cameras mounted over the cash registers. Do you suggest I use a different camera since you had so much trouble with the wz30? Also, there is a sheetrock ceiling with apartments above and no attic!!!

I see domes outside all the time, and they are exposed to rain. Are they special? All domes have the conduit screws?
