  1. Howdy guys, I have a odd problem that has arisen lately on one of my gv dvr systems. The system is running a gv1480 card, Winxp sp3, intel i3, asus motherboard w/ intel chipset, nvidia 7600 video card. The system has been running for about 6 weeks since a format / reinstall with no problems at all, suddenly i'm now getting the infamous "Your may be a victim of a counterfeit card" message intermittently, and geo closes. Geo system is 8.3.4.0 - card firmware is (now) 1.55 Card is definitely not counterfeit, has been in use on this site for approx 1 year in different system configs. My troubleshooting so far - Replace motherboard/cpu/RAM/HDD's. Format / reinstall windows and geovision software - whilst reinstalling geovision 8.3.4.0 it wanted to upgrade card firmware so I changed the hardware jumper on the card and upgraded from 1.42 to 1.55 then put the jumper back. Any tips / tricks to try get this card back on track? The card was installed by the previous CCTV contractor so getting a card replacement will be time-consuming, hence it is my last option. As always your knowledge and insight is greatly appreciated, hopefully someone can save me here!! -Bob W

    Multiview Resolution only 320x240

Harrar described it perfectly. What your talking about adam is an overall video setting, which is normally quite high by default. Whereas the 'webcam' settings are quite low by default (especially for LAN use). Cheers, Bob W

    Overwritten file recovery

Open a command prompt and "undelete".. no no no - im kidding, unfortunately your chances are quite slim cctvguardtech. GetDataBack is one of the best/easiest end user recovery tools (imho), but the methods used are almost useless when you have a complete drive filled with video - which is being constantly overwritten. If this footage is serious, head to a drive recovery lab immediately ($$$). Stuffing around with windows tools for recovery can only hamper professional efforts. -Bob W

    Geovision & AMD

Rory, I had a GV1240 Combo card working on an Athlon64 3800+ system - With VIA chipset (win Xp - geo ver 7.x) It was a existing install at one of my sites, and heat problems soon lead to an Intel replacement. I don't know how much trouble they went to for a working setup, but it was fully functional when I took the site on board. Plasmaguy - My background in IT has led me to use Intel on all my DVR's for reliability and stability. AMD is fine for a home / gaming PC but the second it becomes business I steer clear of AMD.

    Geovision gv-800 help!

I'm going to do pin out tests on some diff Geo tails and post the results. These questions are easily answered/solved for future. I am quite sure that Geo cards are pinned out differently on each series, to keep business close. I have a Geo 1480 / 1240 and 650 cards I can try, i'm 99% the 1240-16 and the 1480-16 are swappable. Vavdagic - The best way to find out is to get the correct tail and test the card with known working inputs. No one on here can tell you if the card works or not, but it doesn't seem right the way it all went down. If he was selling it as "Working second hand" card on ebay - Why didn't he include the correct tail?

geovision 8.3 crashes, video lost at restart

Hello, What are some detailed PC specs - IE Chipset / Motherboard?? Also - did this system previously work? If so - what has changed. If not - is this a new system build? New Geo card also? Which 8.3 revision of geovision? Cheers, Bob W

    Geovision V8.4 compatability

Can you please let me know the results LittleScoobyMaster?? I also have an older GV650 card - forced to use Geo 6.1.1 to run it. Im in Australia and the taiwain Geovision site mentions an upgrade program for old cards. Ill find out more info when I next speak to them. -Bob W

Geovision 8.4 Win7 Taskbar not going away on autologin

I know this isnt what your after - but perhaps auto-hide the bar? that would give you an immediate solution. is there any fancy theme running on win7 ? have you tried using the classic theme? It sounds like its probably the webserver stealing focus off the app when it goes full screen - Effectively allowing windows to make it full screen background. Which version GV software are you running? -Bob
  12. Intel hardware will definitely help, AMD is not supported so you could end up chasing your tail needlessly. The reset watchdog jumpers on the GV board allow the card to bridge the RSET pins on the motherboard and perform a hard reboot. I think this is only used when you have set GV to reboot on schedule, and ticked the corresponding box (Allow watchdog reset etc etc). Try removing the jumper lead to remove the possibility that this is the cause of your problem. Have you checked the error log to see if there is any shutdown msg from GV? Also - What updates / configuration have you applied to the Win XP install? (I would recommend using Rorys winxp setup guide - good bare bones layout) Right click my computer > Manage > Event viewer > System Log / Application Log Post any details if GV logs any ERROR codes. -Bob
  13. around the same time the lines started, had you updated geovision software? could be counterfeit if that sounds familiar.

Compatibility of 1480 and 8.3 Software

Be careful, One of my clients had an existing 1480 card (in australia) on 8.2 geo system. After I upgraded the systems to 8.3.3 geo started giving the error "counterfeit card". Upgrading to 8.3 generally will update the card firmware to 1.55 (from memory). This is where the counterfeit cards will start to bug out, from the firmware update, which was part of the 8.3 driver install routine. (I was going from 1.42 to 1.55) Now we are chasing the previous dodgy cctv installer to replace with a 1480 geo card as was invoiced. He isn't happy we caught onto his scam, now its going to cost him $1200 AUD. So in short - sounds like a counterfeit card. Dont do drugs kids & dont F*k with counterfeit geovision cards lol

Exporting video as exe will not run on computers..

Hi All, When dealing with either Emergency Services or other parties (Lawyers etc etc) that need to view footage, my options are now down to either of two options (Geo 8.3.4.0): Save as an EXE, or burn a copy of "GeoCodecReg" folder from Geovision install (Or /local/ on the install dvd). This allows them to install the codec before viewing the footage. Save as EXE seems to have a quick install for the codec then launch the same avi file. GeoCodecReg seems quite stable and capable also, but requires a seperate install before launghing

GV1480 Counterfeit msg on legit card?!?

I noticed via remote view that the card was screwing up the video inputs heavily. In 1 camera window it would display a spliced version of two camera inputs, so that meant a card fault. This was not displaying in live view on the Geo system, only via remote view and via log view. Card has been removed and replaced with a new 1480A whilst the other one travels around for a few weeks on a warranty journey -Bob W

GV1480 Counterfeit msg on legit card?!?

update: Firmware update seems to be the root of my problem, I cannot get the card to firmware correctly update. The GV card has a 3 pin jumper with the following config - PIN 1-2 (NORM) PIN 2-3 (UPDATE). so the card was set to NORM and firmware wouldn't update properly - I didn't know there was a jumper for firmware at this point (and the "gvfpaup.exe" said "Update succeed"). so then I put the pin to UPDATE and performed the update, all good, but when returning the pin to NORM after doing the update - the firmware goes back to 1.42.00 ?????? Leaving the jumper on UPDATE keeps reporting 1.55.00, but I still have counterfeit errors in GV ??!?!?! ARGH

Slow local network access when running Geovision

Hello, I'm concentrating my comments here on the PC that has Geovision, and how this affects your access speeds considerably (dependant on whether Geovision is running or not). Does this PC have a single HDD for O/S & Geovision? What interface HDD is it? (IDE / Sata / SCSI??lol?) Is this also where Geovision saves its video log files? Cheers, Bob W

Slow local network access when running Geovision

Hi, What are the machine spec's on this PC? Sounds like it could be fully loaded up CPU usage wise, although with 1 camera that would mean your PC is quite old or incorrectly setup. Also check you have the latest stable chipset drivers, network drivers and storage controller drivers. Check in task manager, under the performance tab, with "Show Kernel times" enabled. With the PC idling with Geo 8.3 running, what is the CPU usage sitting on?

    Multiview Fullscreen

Hi guys, I use DMMultiView.exe (8.3.3.0) to view two sites of 16 cameras remotely, and in full screen. 1x PC with two LCD's installed, Win XP running VMWare with Windows XP. Assign VMware to the second screen, full screen. MultiView is installed on both windows 'systems'. Each instance of the application connects to 1 site, running 16 cameras in full screen, one mouse / keyboard access both sets of cameras smoothly. 32 cameras showing "scaled" D1 (low res in grid, full res in single cam fullscreen), good frame rates on 100mbit connection. Rotating Geo Cards between PC's

Hello All, Just to update, I've reconfigured our CCTV operation and I had the following results. I was able to swap the 1480 and the 1240 cards between two PC's without reinstalled Geovision or Windows. Just plug and play basically, all functionality was kept - the only noted problem was as follows: When I removed the 1240 from PC 2 and installed the 1480 into PC 2, the 16 division home screen (in normal view or full screen) appeared to drop every 3rd - 5th frame - appearing slightly jerky. Individual cameras brought to full screen appear fine, and video recordings were all fine. A day after this the PC's were all fully formatted and re-installed, Using a tried and tested Windows XP Corporate SP3, Select windows updates & drivers. Geovision 8.3.3.0 was installed on all 3 PC's. Fine tuning windows and Geovision is essential - and everything is working mickey mouse now Rory has some excellent information about tuning your windows to get the most out of Geo. Multi View has been installed on the remote view terminal and operates well-ish... Functionality is better than "RemoteView" but the app is quite fiddly to set-up, gives excellent picture quality if you have the bandwidth to allow it. I will mention more about this in the next post to help keep my posts less 'rambly'. Regards, Bob W

    Rotating Geo Cards between PC's

Hello All, Long time lurker - first time poster Im based in Australia and maintain several small business & High Rise CCTV systems. One CCTV system I maintain has 3x PC's with 3x Geovision cards along with a separate LuxRiot server / client. 1x Geo 1480 - Ver 8.31 Soft - 16 Cams 1x Geo 1480 - Ver 8.2 Soft - 11 Cams 1x Geo 1240 - Ver 8.2 Soft - 16 Cams The time of year has come to format these PC's and perform a complete reinstall, and I have a couple of questions before I begin. Can I swap the 1240 card with the 1480 card without doing a Geo reinstall on those PC's? Can the software handle this? The two systems on 8.2 have been running "TCP server" for a remote LAN dual monitor setup that connects via "RemoteView". It appears DMMultiView is the 8.3 replacement of "RemoteView" with extended functionality. Is this correct ? Is DMMultiView the best way to view the cameras live? The purpose of this setup is so that the building managers office can remotely (within the same building) view cameras live 24 - 7. Remote playback is always done from within the security office where the PC's are located. 1 more question - what version is recommended for upgrade? 8.33 ? 8.4? Geovision have given be access to the 8.4 download - it took around 4-6 hours for them to reply to my email with an access link (I noticed someone else was asking about this earlier). Feel free to ask any questions about the setup we have here, hopefully I can contribute some worthy information to the forums now that I am registered Kind Regards, Bob W

    Quality problem Geovision G1480A card

How is the quality different? Resolution appears poor ? or could it be tampered with via Camera brightness /contrast settings etc?

Were can I download Geovision 8.4?

Hi I emailed Geo yesterday and received my email back in about 4 hours with an access link. Kinda surprising as I omitted some of the form data fields. Cheers, Bob W
