Well, LJarrald. When you get to be my age and your eyes get as poor as mine... you'll understand. I'm sorry if I annoyed you but, perhaps you could explain why that is. I really don't understand. I can understand typing in all caps is a bit bothersome because that should be done only if you're trying to make a POINT or SHOUTING! when things are in bold they are harder (for me) to read, the characters seem more jumbled up and closer together
-
its good but why type in bold? its annoying.
-
brilliant! can you do a video (with a video camera) showing the setup? like a guided tour of all the cameras, PIRs, etc and then demo the siren for us?
-
thanks, i think i will add it at the DVR end then
-
so like this then? i would of thought it would need to go at the DVR end :/
-
it is just a home system, as much as i'd like to... i don't have a test monitor would some of these work? do they go at the camera or dvr, or both? thanks!
-
this is what i was thinking, can i get some sort of ground loop isolator? the cameras are not cheap ones.
-
i did not even notice them until you just pointed them out! nobody looks up there anyway. i am wondering how long it will take my dad to notice it. yeah, i was a bit sceptical about a camera without IR but the light from the street lamp over the road is enough at night

i only have 5 cameras in at the moment. i will have 15 eventually. cam 13. next door rear cam 4. shed roof this camera origionally was zoomed into the shed roof because we had people messing on it. but then my dad asked me to put cameras in the alley which would catch face shots before they got to the roof. now this one catches the blind spot of cam3 and overlaps cam13 a bit aswell as getting the other part of the alley. i plan to angle this camera down a bit at some point. cam3. twds ******** cam2. twds ******* this is a hard postion. i want to be able to see people coming from the alley at the right, and at the left. also, when i caught burglars, they jumped over that wall at the left so i want the camera to see that. but this is as wide as the cam can go so i miss a bit on the right. because the angle has to be like this, i only really catch half of the face and its usually a side shot so not the most usefull but its what has to be done. i will do a vid explaining properly soon. shed door. this is a B+W panasonic box cam. its one of two i got out of a skip at school. its 12v and works well but i want a colour one that is good in low light (or a day/night one and IR illuminator) quad display 16 way display the layout of the cams when its all done (dont worry about colours or secondary camera names) cam1 is 'error' because i blew it up by accedent

i added another two cameras today. i had to take a picture from the monitor rather than screenshot the software because the ethernet port on the router is mangled and i have not replaced it yet. here is that camera... this picture was taken before i put the dome on, the white box with the wires sticking through on the right is the microphone... FOH right... there will be two cameras on the Front Of House. the one on the left of the house will be looking right, the one on the right of the house will be looking left. the main reason for them is to record the road. there have been crashes and children run over in the past so it is a good idea, this camera will probably be tilted abit more to the right after the second camera goes in. the FOH cameras are NOT for identification, just for an overview.

on every towerblock i see, they all have PTZ cameras hanging off at least one corner on the roof. they are never pointing in the grounds of the actual building, usually looking far out (they must have a monster zoom!) i am just wondering why? they are council flats so are they therefore council cameras used to monitor people from far distances? i'm just asking out of curiosity really.
-
i think you're probably right. but i think more lower cameras are better. they have two on EVERY block, that is quite alot of cameras! combine that with the 1000000X zoom lenses they must have, you cold put several cameras in high crime areas for the same price

i have put holes in ceilings twice. the first time was at my dads, a couple of floorboards at the top of the stairs were up, as i was coming up the stairs, i tripped close to the top, put my hands out and my hands hit the top of the lath. went downstairs to find half the ceiling crumbled off. (our house is victorian and lots of HGVs drive down our road to deliver to all the aisain cash and carry shops but the vibration they cause over years is damaging to houses, especially very old lath and plaster walls and ceilings!) and the other time, i was installing lighting in my mums loft (before i put the loft boards down) and there was lots of wood bridged over the joists that i was using as a platform to stand on, as i was screwing the light in, both feet were at the centre of a piece of wood and went through into my brothers bedroom. again, lath ceiling so not a simple small hole, half the ceiling was hanging off and my brother was covered in dust -
cheap OUTdoor solution? under $200
ljarrald replied to ripnix's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
when you link to youtube videos can you press the youtube button so it embeds? makes life a little easier :} -
how much do they cost? i have often wondered if you can get DVRs in the style of a fire or burglar alarm (in the way it mounts to the wall and is controlled)
-
careful if you are putting it into brick/mortar. its very easy to rip things out of walls! unless you use good wall plugs, long screws or screw into wood.

If you want to record in total darkness you need IR leds. IR leds behind window = bad idea Camera will be blinded by reflection. but you could disable the cameras IR and use a cheap £10 outdoor IR illuminator -
I assume "council flats" are your government-subsidized housing? Only asking because I'm not a Brit. yup, correct. free housing paid for by the taxpayer (i think, i'm only 14 so don't really know, if i am wrong I'm sure someone will correct me)

i disagree. i think the goal should be to stop it all together, not give the problem to somebody else. That's a nice thought, but how are you going to do that... sneak onto the neighbor's property and install cameras, alarms, steel bars and signs while he's not looking? i didn't say it was a realistic goal...

i am using a netgear modem but that thing i linked to is a 3g/gprs/hdspa/etc, etc modem. you can have two sims in it (so if one of them loses signal the other provides backup) you can use it as the only gate to the internet OR you can set it up so that if the netgear modem loses connectivity, the mobile network takes over. they do make ones that have an adsl router built in but they are costly! and i got this for free so i aint complaining
-
when i can figure out how to set it up my internet (and cctv) will be backed up by this http://www.voipon.co.uk/sarian-hr4420-p-1128.html

most DVRs have firmware that can be upgraded via a USB stick. i guess if you know what you are doing and have alot of skill and time you could write/modify some firmware for a dvr...
