i have considered that to be honest but if its anything like when i had to remove replace an app once before i discovered i had to purchase the app again which i find completly wrong when you already purchased and through no fault of your own you cant get a fresh copy, one thing i have learned with app store and apps is that there never seems to be a way of obtaining a fresh downlaod for something you already own and infact i once paid for an app that didnt work and when i contacted the vender of the program they claimed they are not responsible for refunds and that is apples problem but apple say they dont hold responsibility either so dont issue refunds ( i cant even work out who it is that actually makes has the money from purchases, is it the vendor or apple?, i know thats gone off topic a little there but brought back they frustrations of that time i should have been abe to get my money back anyway i spose i will have to end up biting the bullet so to speak and delte the app and then buy it again although i do hold a reluctance because it had same problem on old phone aswell and nothing had cnaged at all when the problem first occured the problem transferred from phones because you essentially cloned your settings onto the new device. i bet if you installed the app when the phone was fresh it would work. the vendor gets app money and apple get a percentage of it.

does it not need to be twisted pairs though? i thought that was to stop noise. what do you mean i don't need baluns?

hi, i need to put some cameras up at remote locations for short periods of time (1 week - 1 month) i am planning to use a 4ch DVR in a box in each location with 1 or more PTZs and in some cases, some fixed cams too. i am also going to use a 3G/HDSPA/EDGE modem for internet connectivity and then probabbly a couple of batteries and solar panels for power. i am hoping to keep everything 12V. so... i need a 4 CH DVR with low power consumption and has PTZ ability and (most importantly) has good remote viewing software. in the software i need to be able to; - record live images to the hard drive of the computer i am viewing the cameras from - control the PTZ camera(s) - access recorded video - view more than one DVR at once (multi site) would i be better off just using IP PTZs for where i only plan to use one PTZ anyway? if i used ip PTZs, could i use a hybrid DVR at base and have it recording images from the cameras? i would rather stay with an analogue DVR so that i can use cheap fixed cams and have more flexibility. i am looking for the cheapest possible and do not mind paying less because i am using second hand stuff so don't be afraid to suggest 5 year old technology (or if you have old DVRs capable of what i want laying around, i'll buy! in my home setup i have a VISTA VC16Te with wavereader software, if anyone has used wavereader, i would like software with as many of the features it has. thanks! - luke (i have probably missed info out and stuff. so if you need any more info, just ask.)

yeah it probably is, the vista dvr is staying put, i just need a couple of DVRs for temporary installations. i am thinking about the 2nd one down on this page. what do you think? i would upgrade my vista DVR because lets face it... the compression is pretty cr@p but my dad is thinking about selling the house in a couple of years and wants the cctv to stay. and i have taken advantage of the fact that the PTZ keyboards can also control the DVR. so there is a keyboard in my room and the living room. but explaining that will come in a video what other network features are there? smartphone viewing, instant email on motion, alarm, etc with attached video that's about all i can think of.

there are 8 wires in there (4 pairs). for troubleshooting, get a universal laptop charger (with variable output), set it to around 17vDC then connect it to the camera. this has worked for me. you then know where the problem is. (psu) tomcctv, i use however many pairs i have left over (usually 3) but i use one of each pair so i get the polarity right. solid colour for +, dotted colour for -. is this uncommon practise?

I wish it was Rory I wish it was. Stragely enough I have no presets that look within my boundary. All other them are on the street outside or in the alley to the side of my house. These are locations where youths gather often, or trouble has been known to erupt. Remember I said for each location, I have saved a wider and a zoomed preset. Doesn't take long to use them up. My Camera has 124 presets but I doubt I'll ever need that many. It's difficult enough to remember them all with just 16 presets. SNAP! good idea, or label the buttons

my DVR (VISTA VC16Te CDR) records in wavelets. it has a CD recorder but all that does is exports files and the software. i can view the live and recorded images on my pc using the software but to play them on a DVD player, i have to use a screen recorder with the software.

not being rude but did you read by comment, or was it not clear? my dvr takes 12v at 5 amps. it has its own psu with battery backup, as do the cameras. the reason they are not all on one PSU is because i used what i had. it also works better this way. if i had a 10 amp battery backed up PSU then it would probably only have space for two SLAs (less AH's)

you use a 24vAC PSU and it is hard to backup. all my cameras are dual voltage. 24VAC or 12VDC. i use the DC option but if you were to use AC you could have a setup where mains on is 24vAC but in powerloss it switches to 12VDC. that would be the most efficient way to do it if you wanted AC with mains power.

i think it was the same, pm me the item no and i'll be able to confirm or not. we probably end up costing each other more. if only you had told everyone what you were bidding on AND YOU WILL OUTBID ANYONE WHO TRIES TO TAKE IT FROM YOU! could of got it for less, that is what i do on my facebook fire alarm group. but then there is the chance of a kn0b outbidding you who otherwise would not of found it :/

So a battery per camera? Sounds good but where are these batteries going (eg. enclosures?) and what are you charging them with? Doesnt sound like something one really wants to do for a client. no, i have about one battery for 4 cameras. i could use about 2 batts for all 16 but then they would not last long (unless i used a huge AH one, like a car battery) the batterys are standard SLAs (like in intruder alarm panels) they go in the power supply, its just a standard CCTV psu with space for a battery at the bottom. i use a couple of access control PSUs for the cameras and i use the PSU from an old fire alarm panel for the DVR in the enclosure of the fire alarm (with a new front so it looks like a metal box, not a fire alarm.

my dvr is in the cellar. the PTZ cameras can be controlled directly from the keyboard or through the dvr. mine are controlled through the DVR. in the living room i have 'hacked' a scart connector so that the DVR can be seen through the scart input BUT if/when a camera goes into alarm (say for example, someone gets into the shed) and the TV is on, regardless of what you are watching, the tv switches to the scart input to confirm the intruder, and then you phone the police (alarms also sound throughout the house) there is also a keyboard in the living room, the advantage of the PTZ control going through the DVR is that i can also control the DVR from the keyboard. if someone asks to see footage, i do not need to take them down to the cellar. i have the same setup in my room. i have 2 keyboards in total, one with a 3 axis joystick, and one with up/down/left/right buttons. both keyboards have zoom buttons and stuff too so the joystic one is just quicker for the PTZ but it is easier to control the DVR with the non joystick one. sorry for going off on a tangent, didn't really answer your question but thought i'd share part on my setup

then another 10 hrs for the discharged battery to charge up. but its all pointless if you have no camera power. yeah but the dvr is powered whilst the battery is charging, if you have power cuts that regularly then you should look into a backup generator. all my main cameras have battery backed up PSUs. the less important ones don't, all my alarm boxes have battery backed up PSUs, all my relay boxes have battery backup, pretty much everything is backed up and we only have mains outages like once every 5 years. the main reason for our backup is because we turn out C/U off monthly when doing rewiring or whatever. i still need to do a test of my system with the mains off and see how long each PSU lasts.

one thing i don't like is whn people use UPSs when they are not needed. for example... my DVR takes 12V, 5A. i COULD have the plug go into a ups, then into the dvr psu, then go into the DVR. but, this is pointless! it would be doing this: (wall)240v>(ups in)12v>(ups out)240v>(dvr psu in)240v>(dvr psu out)12v>dvr. and in power outage it'd be: (ups battery)12v>(ups out)240v>(dvr psu in)240v>(dvr psu out)12v>dvr. all that insufficiency is why the ups only lasts a couple of minutes. do what i do which is use a 12v battery backed up PSU. (mains)240v>(psu)12v>(dvr) 12v. depending on your battery capacity and how power hungry your dvr is, you could get more than 5 hours with the mains off! of course, if your DVR uses a PC CPU then you need to give it 240v so a UPS is the only option (google 'UPS car battery upgrade')

i agree, although i usually do electronic stuff so reuse stuff. in these instances it costs alot less than it would to buy.
