    PTZ 'dome'

long story short, the dome of my PTZ has been servilely damaged. it is intact, but damaged. i have a few options. buy a broken PTZ from ebay and transfer the guts of my camera into the housing of it, buy another camera (has to be the specific VISTA powerdome to work with my DVR) from ebay, they pop up every now and again, and sell my old one which is fully working apart from the dome. or, find a glass/plastic dome to replace the other, damaged one. just the dome though. what would you suggest? i know its a long shot, but i don't s'pose any of you have a powerdome gathering dust do you?

    PTZ 'dome'

i don't know the size yet as i still don't have access to a ladder to get the thing down. yes, it is just the plastic dome that is damaged. but i live in the UK, would P+P costs be high from America? I don't think it would be too bad, Luke. I bought a couple lower domes a while back and would be happy to let you have one if it will fit. When you get a chance to get it down, measure the inside opening of the dome ring. we'll see what we can do. Cheers, John okay, thanks John. i'll PM you when i get it down. it will probably be a few weeks yet though.

    Single-Channel DVR?

you're asking for help, for free. i'd be a bit more polite if i were you. i'm amazed people are continuing to help you.
  11. the shed is the first place i installed a camera! how good is your electrical knowledge, and are you any good at DIY? i could give you instructions on how to build a simple system like i did. as well as the DVR, the TV is also simply hooked up to the system with a modified SCART connector so that if someone breaks into your shed the TV switches from whatever you're watching to the live feed from the shed camera and sounds an alarm in the shed, and in the house.

    Video monitoring without electrical power

get a DVR that wants 12V DC power, rather than 110/220V AC, also get 12V DC cameras. then, straight away you are more efficient going from batteries as there is no conversions (dc>ac>dc would be very inefficient)
  13. one of the main disadvantages of my dome cameras is that when it rains, big water droplets end up in front of the lens blocking the cameras view. i have thought about ways to overcome this issue and the best/easiest solution i have come up with is to put something above the lens so that when the top of the dome gets wet and the water starts running down the dome, the water will be 'diverted' from blocking the lens. do you think this is a good idea? have you done it before and had success/problems? could you suggest a material to use? i was thinking KULK or silicon or something because it is easy to put on and once it drys, it sticks quite well. here is a little diagram in case you don't understand what i mean from the description.

what are your thoughts on this idea?

it looks very neat and professional too. unfortunately, it is not something that would work for the cameras in question. i do have a few camera locations where cameras are not yet installed where a shade like this would be perfect though.

what are your thoughts on this idea?

i like that cover. it looks like it could double up as a sun shade too! i think i may use your idea at some point in the future, thanks!

what are your thoughts on this idea?

unfortunately a wall mount kit is not an option. they have to be mounted like this. i'm going to look into that rainX tomorrow when i have time, do some testing and then test out a few ideas

4 pin auto iris plug question

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4963 that's interesting. is there a device then that you can connect to the video output of a camera that will then drive a lens so that you can put an auto iris lens on a 'basic' camera?

what's the difference from video drive and DC drive?

what are your thoughts on this idea?

i like what axis cameras do. although there would still be a bit of the problem if the lens was pointed right down and the rain was at a sharp angle. unfortunately, i don't have much money. so i have to make do with what i've got. i would LOVE an axis system. lol

    another free camera

i went to a site close to my house today where there used to be a building. i spoke to the demolition team when it was half demolished and they gave me access to take whatever i wanted so i did. i wanted the CCTV cameras but they were all external and it would of been a pain getting them so i didn't bother. i went back to check it out today and the demolition crew have gone and taken the building with them. they have cleaned up ready for the builders but left a few bits and bobs behind... i saw a cctv camera housing, examined it and saw that the front window was cracked but apart from that it was fine so i took it home. here is a picture of it on the building before demolition (taken from street view) the housing was MASSIVE and basic, i reckon its probably from the 80s so i didn't expect anything special inside. i opened the housing and found a 240V to 24VAC PSU and a panasonic day/night box cam. the camera definitely doesn't match the age of the housing so the original one probably broke and this was probably a replacement. but anyway... now i have a nice 'new' camera in mint condition that cost me nowt

I'm sure you wish you had gone through the pain of getting them all before the demo. Never the less, nice take. i know right! i could of had 9 more of these things! oh well, we learn from our mistakes.

    Just found an old treasure...

ah cool, i think one of the advantages of your plugs is that they're 'flat', the cord is at the back rather than the bottom so if its laying on the floor... the pins don't stick up. standing on an upturned UK plug is a horrible feeling! this is what our sockets look like a clever student came up with this idea but it does not comply to regs because of something so it doesn't look like it will take off :'( f6DvjKkGT6s i won't even ask about your 208V... i think I've derailed this thread enough.
