Desperate: "thief" cheating our wired CCTV constantly?
ljarrald replied to ThomasSmith's topic in General Digital Discussion
UPS's don't last forever. how long are you out for? they could just cut the power and come back an hour later when the UPS has run out. this is why i prefer 12V PSUs with battery backup. much more efficient than a 240V UPS that only gets stepped back down again to 12V for the cameras... -
jtetterton, i 'urbex' too, alot. but still, it just seems a bit odd... after all, it could be anyone on the other side of the screen. the fact that they seem to be worrying so much about weather or not they belong to the government makes me wonder why? dies this person have a reason to expect to be spied on by 'the gov'? the OP is probably just a normal, harmless person like you and I. but that does not answer my questions.
-
That's really odd, they loaded fine for me.. Must be your internet connection loading them slowly. Atom netbook, it does the same on mine. Cant handle all those huge images at once. intel laptop. works but it is V annoying! why can't you link to HD images but embed low res versions? also... grrr. in the time it takes me to make one post, 5 other posts have been made.
-
i'm slightly suspicious. - why are you so curious about these cameras? (especially if the property is nothing to do with you) - why did you seem worried about them being government issued? - why do you have so many pictures of this house?
-
sorry soundy and jtetterton. i din't see your posts. you must of made them as i was typing.
-
that house doesn't look very abandoned. but someone is keeping an eye on it... either: A: squatters are in the house and setup that system to help protect themselves B: someone if being nosey and wants to know who visits the place and when. this could be out of interest, or because someone wants to move into it as a squatter, or other scary reasons. C: someone owns the house and is fed up with people going up to it. D,E,F,G,etc... lots of other possibilities. BUT. one thing is pretty much for sure, there will be a receiver in the house. looks like the house has power. it must have a phone line. which means internet... there will probably be a cheap DVR in there somewhere (probably hidden) for someone to remotely log into. that beam detector on the drive would suggest they get an email when someone drives their car into the drive. why does it matter if its government issued though? abandoned building in a remote location + someone worried about government surveillance = suspicion

if you look closely at the first picture, it is actually wired as a daisy chain...

i have a couple of day only static domes. i need them to be able to see 24/7. there is some light so i don't need IR leds. i just need them to be able to switch to B+W and see under low light. they also need to drive an auto iris lens. i am in manchester, UK. does anybody know where i can get what i'm looking for? thanks!
-
all mine are used from ebay. never ever given me any problems this one is decent. its has a fixed lens though, not the best camera out there but hopefully it'll do. the four box cams... i don't think they are going to work lol. if they do i will find a use for them. or they may go on ebay. http://imgur.com/a/Ci4pO#8

thanks for that explanation rory. i found that with the heap CMOS cameras from ebay, green bushes look purple, as do black clothes :/ this camera looks at my next door neighbours yard. i may not need anything after all. as luck would have it i passed a demolition site with a very kind site manager...

does the camera only have an ir cut filter if it has IR leds? because only one of my cameras has(had) a filter and that was the one with IR. all the others don't have IR cut filters nor do they have IR leds.
-
i don't need IR. there is a street lamp that provides a bit of light, its just not enough light for the colour only camera to cope with. all my other D/N cameras have just varifocal lenses and all the D/N, colour,B+W stuff seems to happen in the camera. i did have one camera that had an IR cut filter in the lens but the iris was broken. i tried and tried to fix it but i am not good with fiddily things and in the end broke the IR cut filter so i took a lens from another camera and put it in that camera. i ended up disabling the IR because it wasn't needed. the camera still switches to B+W in low light though and its not given me any problems i think i might just get a B+W only modual. i don't have much money and B+W is good enough... and gives me a tiny bit more disk space
-
well the cameras already have lenses that i'd like to reuse to save on cost. i don't need a camera with loads of features, just one that can see and identify in low light. i don't have very deep pockets you see :/
-
the cameras are various brands. they are colour only. no option to change that the cameras do have auto iris lenses, yes. that is what i'm looking for rory. do you know where i can get a couple in the uk?
-
a lot of 'chavs' now use BBs. probably because parents that used them for business bought them for their kids to keep in touch with them on BBM and then it caught on. this means when the uk riots took place last year a lot of the organisation was done through BBM. blackberry worked with the police to help catch the people who organised it.
-
if i bought four 'domes' and one was a working PTZ i would be quite the opposite of complaining!
-
that sounds about right. dome doesn't mean PTZ. it means dome.
-
in places where i need a wide FOV i have used two (sometimes even more) cameras on channels next to eachother on the DVR (1 and 2, 3 and 4, etc) it works well.
-
yeah. i was dissapointed it was just a one off show rather than a series. have a look for a programme alled 'break in and make my day' on 4OD. i think you'll like it.
-
PaulsonLaws idea is good, the fisheye won't catch detail though. i would put the PTZ on the corner, where PaulsonLaw placed the fisheye, you get a LOT more coverage then.

HELP... Instalation of Maplin Sentient cctv
ljarrald replied to intheuk's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
ebay is brilliant for used cameras. all the cameras in my system are second hand from ebay. the average cost of each one is about £35. bearing in mind when brand new these cameras go for over £100! and they all came to me in as new condition although i know what to look for. if you don't know much about the world of cctv it may not be a good idea. -
was the programme called 'secrets of the shoplifter'?
