i knew about the approvals thing but can't see how that would help. the "moderated" accounts would be a good idea to implement i think but i know that is beyond your powers so it is the admin who will have to do it.

snowy lines on one camera

probably most likely to be the PSU/camera. have there been any electrical storms before the camera went funny? (lightning, brownouts, blackouts) -

I still remember England when it was, England. Nice thing about living here is I don't have be politically correct. I lived in the South of England from age 10-16. Was good times when I was living there. Crime was virtually non existent also. Other than the odd bully who's backside I had to kick on occasion. Even spent a year living/working at Heathrow Airport (southall) in London at age 19, went back a couple years ago and the place is literally a ghetto now. yeah, the country is turning to ****. i am just grateful i am an NZ citizen. i shall get out of here one day hopefully

No I doubt it, if I was Irish, Cuban, or possibly Indian then I would be set in the US Even the green card lottery for our country is pretty small compared to others. hrm don't even get me started on that... you want to see my road. true, but not everywhere is as violent as your neighbourhood sounds.

some people use standard computer UPSs. this (in my opinion) is stupid, because 99% of the time the equipment will be running on 12vDC or 24vAC so converting it up to 240V from the 12V battery in the UPS only for it to be converted down again is very inefficient. you can get cctv PSUs that have 240/120V AC input and then they have 4-20 outputs that are normally at 12VDC (sometimes 13.8V) and also has connections for a battery. if the power is cut the battery(s) take over. for the DVR if it is a dvr with 12V input you can use a 12v battery backed up PSU at the correct amperage. if it is 240/120V then you will have to use a computer styleUPS. sorry is my post makes no sense. a n tired and stuff but happy xmas!

Does Infrared light work from inside a Fixed Dome?
ljarrald replied to Fiona's topic in Security Cameras
That's a neat observation. Two problems with full blown IR (apart from the cost of of separate IR 'luminaires' like the AEGIS Intelligent IR) is: (i) the additional cost of electricity to power the lamps and; (ii) the lack of deterent because the perpetrators don't know they are being lit up into a ghostly image. Not letting the 'perp' know they are being videod must have its advantages in prisons or in 24/7 monitored situations with a chance of apprehending the blighters before they run away. Other than that, decent LED floodlights (Whelen 24volt?) with dual scan motion detectors would probably be a better combination for domestic and unmonitored commercial applications. That would also extend the use of standard quality box cameras inside enclosures which, as Soundy and Rory mentioned, are useless in pitch black situations. bearing in mind i know people who cause trouble and break the law frequently (better the devil you know) from observations, IR is more of a deterrent. if there is no IR they seem to think it can't see them because its dark. if there is IR its like there is a massive flag saying I'M WATCHING YOU! to scare em off. -
take your spam elsewhere.

yeah, the eyeball ones are better for IR. there is no foam on this camera. i need to make a 'suction cup' but have not gotten around to it yet. -

What Would You Say to This Guy? (Blah blah blah part 2)
ljarrald replied to rory's topic in Test Bench
just because technology is outdated it does not make it useless. if you install a decent IP (or even analogue) system that can recognise faces and other useful features then who cares if there are new cameras with another 5 MPs on the market? as long as the system WORKS it is fine. it is not like it is a computer that will get slow and sluggish after three years. -

for my 'back door camera' i have opted to put a camera indoors looking at the back door. i would like the camera to be fully zoomed in on the door when the house is unoccupied or the occupiers are asleep (to catch detailed face shots of intruders) but in the day i would like the camera to be zoomed out so that it acts as an overview of the kitchen because... why not? i am going to use a relay output from my intruder alarm so that if the system is set or part set the camera will fully zoom in to the door an when it is unset the camera zooms all the way out. i do not wan't to use a PTZ purely because of the fact i can't afford one (unless one of you has one going cheap) so i thought i may aswell use a box cam like the type in old style PTZs. they have RS-485 in to control the zoom which is what i need. can anyone recommend a camera? i need it to be as cheap as possible (but not ****e image quality) and i do not mind buying second hand/from ebay. thanks in advance...

sorry, i meant i would make it so that if the alarm system is set or part set (not to be confused with in alarm) (IE if the occupants are asleep or the house is unoccupied) then the camera would zoom in and when the alarm system is UNSET the camera would zoom out to give an overview of the kitchen. this is because the back door is the most likely place for an intruder to break in through. i want the camera to be ready and waiting. i have decided that an RS-485 zoom camera will be too costly though so i am going to either... A: use one fixed dome zoomed into the backdoor and leave it at that. B: use one fixed dome zoomed into the backdoor and another fixed dome with a wide view of the kitchen and then just switch between them depending on weather the alarm system is SET or UNSET. C: put a 'peephole camera' on the back door looking out. but there are potentially big privacy issues which i will explain in another post. i will PM you tomorrow. i am a bit tired right now

they are pretty good! i wish i was still at school... they got a 2000+ camera cctv system installed (over 500 of them PTZ) the year after i left i know a student there who is also interested in cctv and they let him play about with stuff... i suggested to him to suggest to them using the alarm inputs and... guess what he got to spend a week doing instead of lessons
