  1. I don't have anything running at the moment. I recently moved from a rental house to house that we just purchased. Conveniently, somehow along the move I "misplaced" my 6 analog cameras. I ran all my cat 5e already, just waiting to purchase a new system. Want to volunteer your cameras for testing purposes?
  2. Wow. How did you manage that? Did you have to ask for it? Nope complete surprise when I opened the box, ordered the kit last week assuming 4 channel. Do you have more than 4 cameras that you can try it with? I think of few of us were curious if the insides were any different or if it was just a firmware update that made it a 8ch nvr.

    Anyone use mini/small cameras?

are you talking about a peephole camera? Do a search for peephole, there are a few threads.
  6. I can't remember if anyone already mentioned this, but here is a copy & paste from Q-SEE's Facebook account. On Oct 10th, someone inquired about when Costco would be selling 1080p cameras. FB User asked... Q-SEE said... FB User asked... Q-SEE said... Here is the link to their FB page. http://www.facebook.com/QSeeFB
  7. Reminds me of the old Mac Powerbook scam http://www.zug.com/pranks/powerbook/
  8. FYI: 2-pack of cameras is back in stock @ $299.99 http://www.costco.com/Q-See-High-Definition-720p-2-Pack-IP-Cameras.product.100003461.html
  9. I'm also waiting to find out if the nvr can be "updated" Record Frame Rate 4 Channel D1: 30fps/camera 720p: 30fps/camera 1080p:30fps/camera 8 Channel D1: 30fps/camera 720p: 30fps/camera 1080p: 15fps/camera 16 Channel D1: 30fps/camera 720p: 15fps/camera 1080p: 7fps/camera The drop in frame rate is all the difference that I see. My guess is that it is the same insides but use different firmwares.

    bouncing frame/image

I had something maybe similar on an old Q-See dvr. 2 of the channels had a slight jitter to them when viewed on the tv that was connected to the dvr. The image did not jitter when viewed on my phone. Can't really give you a solution because I just ended up upgrading to a Dahua dvr. It fixed itself after the dvr swap.
  11. I use an hdmi extender to send the hdmi output from my dvr into the bedroom. I had to run (2) cat5e cables that are about 50ft long. Works great. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011012&p_id=6532&seq=1&format=2

    So stupid...

    Let's see the videos! " title="Applause" />
  13. Hmmm...that's an interesting idea. Not sure what i'm doing wrong but it still isn't showing any MD recordings when looking at the playback list. I do have both manual and motion detection checked off in the scheduling page. I'll continue to play with the settings.
  14. Thanks Rory, I'll double check it later on tonight once I get home.
  15. Hi Guys. Is it possible for you guys to tell me how to set this up to record both manually and motion only please? I'm aware that it'll make separate files as it goes along and senses motion. I'm thinking that I can add a few seconds before the motion and a few seconds after the motion just to be covered. That is one thing that I hated about my q-see dvr. It created separate files but the file started sometimes in the middle of the motion activation because it would take too long to make a separate file or something. Sometimes up to 10 seconds of video was lost. In any case, I've tried setting up the motion detection. But the same as the OP, when I go to search for the MD, the Apollo doesn't find any and just shows the regular records. Thanks guys!
  16. To piggy back onto Rory's comment.... Recently I had to use an active hdmi extender in order to shoot the hdmi out of the dvr to my tv. I ran (2) 48ft CAT 5e cables and it looks great. However, I did need to spend a little more in order to get the active hdmi extender. The dvr just didn't have enough power (out of the hdmi output) to send it down the passive hdmi baluns.
  17. Following up....I ordered an active hdmi extender from Monoprice. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10105&cs_id=1010504&p_id=6532&seq=1&format=2#description It worked like a charm once I plugged in the power supply for the hdmi extender. I'm using the (2) 48ft CAT 5e UTP that I had originally ran. No need for shielded though they do recommend STP for longer runs.
  18. Hi Guys. I recently ungraded to a 8 Channel Qvis Apollo HD DVR. I ordered some hdmi baluns from monoprice. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10105&cs_id=1010504&p_id=8121&seq=1&format=2 They are passive baluns that are rated for 98ft over cat 5e or cat 6. I ran (2) 50ft cat 5e cables and terminated them myself. Well I wasn't getting any video at all. I used my cable tester to make sure that both of the cables were ok. Both cables were 50 ft long. I started to wonder if they meant a 98ft run or 98ft worth of cable. Between both cables I had 100ft. I ended up cutting and recrimping the cables at 48ft each. It still did not work. I had (2) 6ft cat 5e cables at the house that I ended up testing with, the hdmi baluns worked perfectly with the (2) 6ft cables. The only thing that might be questionable is the fact that hdmi baluns are rated as version 1.2. Would that even mater? I wonder if the hdmi signal coming out of the apollo is strong enough to send it down the lines. Hmmmm.... Anybody have any advice? Thank You. Happy New Year to you all!
  19. Today I tested by running (2) 48ft CAT 6 cables. I was eager to see video from the dvr, but no go! I decided to connect the hdmi balun into my cable box and the picture came right up! I then went back to the original CAT 5e cables that I had run. Yup, picture was working great from the cable box's hdmi out via the hdmi baluns. So I guess I figured out the the power that is coming out of the hdmi port on the dvr box is not enough to send it down 48ft. So now I guess I'll have to go back and order an active hdmi balun instead.
  20. Since you are curious, here a link to the tester that I used. http://www.testequipmentdepot.com/testum/testver/tp600.htm?gclid=CL76k7_Uta0CFQduhwodeUtAmQ

My Home Setup - Qvis Zeus 8

I might have missed this, but did you also try DMSS? With this version you just press play and and it just connects to the camera, 1 at a time though. But at least you don't have to add them all in again and again. Edit: I meant to say that you get to see 1 camera at a time.
  22. (1) 6ft cable came with the dvr in the box. The other 6 ft and both of the 48ft cables were made following 568B color code. 568B is what is required for the baluns also. As mentioned, all terminated cables were tested with tester and all passed.
