Questions on axis cameras and vms
ssmith10pn replied to agcsr25's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I realize this is the best thing to do but I guess I was just too excited trying to get the ideal design correct from the start. I will just have to slow down and do some demos. Any thoughts on the motion detection and axis cameras? I maintain Systems with thousands of P3367s and 3364s using Avigilon as the VMS. Motion detection is not an issue at all. Exacq requires annual maintenance fees Avigilon does not. I have nothing to gain by recommending Avigilon to you. Yes I work for an integrator that sells it but they also sell Genetec Security Center, and others. I have Casinos, Universities, Hospitals, State Goverment, and Large corporations on Genetec and Avigilon. I chose Avigilon in my own home and I had to pay for it. -

He has top of the line cameras no doubt. He can get top of the line VMS for less. -

Very nice cameras BTW. I would go with a pair of the Cisco SG300-10P These are good bang for the buck switches with Gigibit uplink ports. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=SG300-10P&N=-1&isNodeId=1 They have external power supplies and are dead silent. Based on your camera selection your not on a shoe string budget. Although down the road I would look at getting a real VMS. If your going to have less than 24 cameras Avigilon Core would be a good affordable choice. -
You need 2 conductors for power and 2 conductors for your dry contact. I would run a 22/2 from the PIR to the camera and a 18/2 from the PIR to the power supply.

IP address assignment for IP cameras

The coolest setup I have seen is Different VLAN for each building. Example: 10.1.208.x building A 10.2.208.x building b 10.3.208.x building c Then DHCP was port specific. Port 1 Building A got 10.1.208.2 Anytime a camera got replaced it picked up the same IP as the previous one. This was in a 3000 camera University environment. -
Does Higher MP give you a wider view?
ssmith10pn replied to c.grex's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
What is the resolution of the 3MP? That might be a 4:3 format so when you change it it crops. Axis cameras do it. -
Does Higher MP give you a wider view?
ssmith10pn replied to c.grex's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Well The OP said his field of view changed so there has to be a logical explanation. -

Maybe changing the resolution is cropping the image? -

I put my tin foil hat on but I still can't figure out the make and model of your NVR. SO THAT I COULD PULL UP THE MANUAL! -
Depends on where you put the reader board. As a general rule most systems home run everything. GE FCWNX / PICTURE PERFECT SYSTEMS have a JBOX at the door that you land reader, REX, DC, and strike relay. Then home run a 4 conductor for reader power and data, and a 2 conductor for strike/Mag power.

I like to set the entire array up in RAID 5. Then break out a small partition for OS and the rest for data. -

IFSEC 4K camera presentations
ssmith10pn replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
5MP vs 2MP(~1080p) on the same sensor size can pose some problems, meaning one pixel might get more noise(heat generated) from neighboring pixels. If, instead of using 1/2.8'' sensors for 5MP, you would use 1/1.4'' or larger ones, the differences should be bigger. That's probably why Avigilon uses 35mm sensors on their Pro Cameras. -
Lightning / surge issue
ssmith10pn replied to ronwood's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The only way to be 100% successful is have a non conductive link. Fiber or wireless. Both will have to have power at the remote location. It can be done underground but it has to be done right. Telecommunication systems are a good example of transferring data underground without lightening issues. It still happens but rarely. -

Holy Schimoley!!!!.... that boggles the mind. OTOH, reading further on the subject I came away with the impression that the $1,200 Fluke device wasn't all that comprehensive and that the $5,000+ devices were more like it... Oh well.... -) The big $$$$$ Devices are for jobs that require BICSI standard certifications and documentation.
