You can actually see the stream change when you click the thumbnail and toggle it to full screen. If you have a 16 window matrix up with all 2mp cameras it wouldn't make sence for them to be full resolution unless your monitor is 15360 x 8640 But there is an option on the camera to disable dual stream if you insist.

They are now asking for a proposal for putting all the video on a separate system because when their IT department jacks up the system they loose live video in some critical areas and thats not an option. They had a company come in and update their core switches during a scheduled 8hr downtime. 36 hours later we were still troubleshooting pockets of outages because the ARP table got corrupt.

My downstream on my desktop with the server running and the client running is 34Mb I had it on a 100mb switch. I am paying for a 50Mb internet connection and I was only getting 19 on speed tests. I changed over to gig switch and now I get my 50Mb internet otherwise It worked fine at 100Mb I have Bitturrent running also

The license is per camera not per server. You can have 24 licenses spread across as many servers you want. On Production servers we shoot for a total bandwidth of 256mbps total throughput so obviously your question is more complicated then how many cameras. It could be 20 5mp JPeg 2000 cameras at 5 frames per second. It could be 24 encoders at 10 frames per second and 10 1mp cameras at 5 frames per second. How much live viewing? That all counts towards the 256mbps If you have a client with 4 monitors with 16 cameras on each monitor that can be significant How many cameras per sever is an open ended question with lots of variables. Normally I install DU meter and watch the total bandwith and add cameras until I either hit the limit or run out of storage. Since they are recording by motion detection that plays a huge roll in the storage demands.

So your picturing your exact scenario and ASSUMING his is the same? Was the floor plan posted and I missed it? Depends on the concentration of cameras. If it's just one or 2 cameras 1600' out I would probably lay a peice of fiber and use a 5 port switch with a gbic. But if he has a building where about half of the cameras could pull to one location and half to another then I would use 2 switches not 24 extenders.

I asked because rather than buy 1 expensive 48 port switch he may have to buy smaller switches and distribute them throughout the property. Extenders are just another point of failure and a unnecessary added expense. But if you did this for a living you would know that already.

Seriously? We sell factory repaired Cyberdomes for 750.00 That's without the housing just the camera. Cyberdomes are junk as far as I'm concerned and you want a PTZ for 150? Good luck with that.

I just use a 15" dell laptop with windows XP and a SSD drive. Boots in 20 seconds and the drive wont crash if it gets dropped.

I would hope so. We've worked with Genetec for quite a while, most of our customers are very happy with them but I always like to hear unfiltered feedback. They have a lot of areas for improvement and I think a lot of their recent business has came because of their huge reference list more so then thorough product evaluations. And I'm sure thats the reason they pulled out all the stops to retain our high profile client.

One of the clients we Service is Omnicast Migrating to Security Center. We were going to convert them to Avigilon but Genetec practically gave their product to stay in this high profile high camera count facility. 900+ cameras and still growing rapidly. I lost count at 40 Archivers. I'm in the learning stages of the two products and after working with Avigilon which is ultra simple to setup this product is very difficult. You can add a camera in Avigilon and just about let it run like it is out of the box with very little tweaks. In Genetec just motion detection is a major pain. Survtech just wondering if you tested Avigilon Control Center and a Avigilon PTZ? They seem lightening fast to me. If I get a chance I may try to make a demo video today.
