Why didn't you get a professional involved? There are too many variables untill you pick a software and hardware solution.

License Plate Camera Situation and Recommendation
ssmith10pn replied to tutech's topic in System Design
I have used those cameras on several occasions and they flat out work even at night. I would say you could possibly have a defective camera or like you said there is something going on with the DVR. Those tags should really pop. Even more so at night. I'll see if I can pull you some samples tonight when I get home. -
switch thoughts
ssmith10pn replied to Tom12345's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
15mbps x 8 = 120mbps Your uplink to the server will be 1000mbps so your using 12% of the capacity and the backplane of the switch will handle a total of 5600mbps roughly. -
Operating conditions 0 – 45 °C (32 – 113 °F) Humidity 20 – 80% RH (non-condensing) Looks like it doesn't play nice with heat.

Help with bandwidth/framerate issues please :)
ssmith10pn replied to thekuai's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
No it's not. 15fps is about 1/2 the bandwith of 30fps and still pretty fluent. Most of the systems I maintain are on 5fps. No it's not fluent but there is no reason for it to be. -
Help with bandwidth/framerate issues please :)
ssmith10pn replied to thekuai's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Well for one thing it's Geovision and it will eat up any processor. 2nd, Why do you need 30fps? 15fps will do almost anything except car tags at high speed. -
Cisco for Corporate LAN, HP for CCTV- Good Idea?
ssmith10pn replied to ciskokid's topic in System Design
IP Cameras get a bad rap as a bandwidth hog which they are not. If it was me I would analise the existing network Infrastructure and offer the owner the option of using his existing network and Just Vlan the video system. It would save him big $$$$$ and save rack space if his IS staff is on board with it. We have several customers that have cameras all over the campus using the existing network without issues. -
Which IP Camera Should I Get For A Residential Security Gate
ssmith10pn replied to Rehan's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yeah, but he's starting from scratch; there's no existing gate to interface with, and no need to tie it to the phone system. How is he going to open it or close it remotely if he's out of town and a delivery needs to get it? What if he's in a different room or in bed when someone calls the gate? If it has a phone line you can program the gate to call your house or your cell phone. Then you can open the gate by hitting 9 on the phone. -
Starter IP system
ssmith10pn replied to kifaru's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The only way I see that happening in the IP world is if you install the NVR software or the client software on a PC and install a quad output video card. Then build your views for each output. -
Which IP Camera Should I Get For A Residential Security Gate
ssmith10pn replied to Rehan's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The reason I was mentioning Pots is because 99% of the gate operators out there are Door King. http://www.doorking.com/pages/home.php Door King has the option of either using a dedicated phone to call the house or in line with your existing Phone line. -
Which IP Camera Should I Get For A Residential Security Gate
ssmith10pn replied to Rehan's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833995108 62.5 You will have to get someone to terminate it. http://www.fiberoptics4sale.com/p/TLC-OM1-Indoor-Outdoor-Cable/M62-IO06-CRBL.html They aren't cheap but they make Converters to get your dial tone over the fiber too to help prevent your gate controller from getting blown up from lighting. -
A 36x will allow you to look further than the environment will allow you to. Air quality, heat rise, and obstructions will be the limiting factor.

Which IP Camera Should I Get For A Residential Security Gate
ssmith10pn replied to Rehan's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Sounds to me like you need local power at the gate for a switch and pull a 6 strand multimode outdoor fiber back to the house. And you don't have to worry about lightning this way. -
I would expect to pay 100.00 for the lens.

UTP or STP CAT6 cable for 2mp setup
ssmith10pn replied to Integraoligist's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Unless you have the cable wrapped around the armature of the refrigerator and running across a row of florescent lights parallel and the Ballasts are the old school the cat5e will never hear any of those items. Heck it's hard enough to hear tone on a cat5 cable. If you had network trouble in the past it was either bad terminations or switch collisions. If you test each segment of cable with a decent tester you will never have trouble. There is only one place I ever had to use shielded cable for networking. That was an Aluminum recycling plant that had 200hp AC motors on the aluminum shredders. Every time a big load hit those motors the conduit would shake from the magnetic fields. -

ssmith10pn replied to CCTV6040's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
how many cameras do you have connected to this box? I can give you the numbers but does it really matter? It's not going to make it any clearer because there is such a mixture of cameras. Live video is the upstream out to the Clients. It's Avigilon. The magic number on these boxes is supposed to be 250Mbps upstream and downstream combined.
