Should I upgrade our system and what to?
ssmith10pn replied to jlk's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have a few questions. What drives are in the qnap box. What is the model number? I would like to look at the specs. The ISCSI transport should be a problem. I'm just wondering what that box can handle for read and write. -

AVIGILON 5MP HD D/N IP DOME CAMERA Mfg. Part: 5.OMP-HD-DOME-DN $903.99 ea. CONFIGURABLE 2U NVR with Exacq VMS $1,866.00 ea. Cameras would be $3615.96 Plus server is $5481.96 Not sure about lenses & licensing. So we're left with $2518.04 from our original $8k quote. Two guys, two days installation, programming, client training @ $95/hr. = $1520.00 So now we're at $998.04 "profit". Still have to mark-up equipment, purchase supplies/cable, lock-box, power supply, pay sales tax, permit fees, warranty, etc. etc. Here's your cruise... You skipped the part of the conversation where it was stated there is no labor. It's 4 cameras, Worst case scenario you buy a 1500.00 Dell Workstation from the Dell Outlet Store. I bought one a month ago with 6TB of storage and an I5 processor for 1500.00 And you can't mark up cameras you paid MSRP for.

Hmm u probably did not pay attention what I sad before customer installed himself, pick and choose field of view, location, etc... I only supplied product and setup I ask the same ? why do u have to see wall He explained to me He had reason believe me or not Oh I knew it wasn't you. If he didn't want to see any further to the right either tighten up the zoom or rotate 90 degrees and rotate in software. Like I did this one.

Don't joke like that. One night of exposure to adults is one thing. Children who are developing are different then adults agree? Anyway without a long term study its difficult to say with a high degree of certainty how safe or unsafe long-term exposure of ir leds are to the eyes of children. Microwaves and smoking were once thought perfectly safe... Now we know better... I wasn't joking. They both had IR cameras in their rooms from the day they were born and they are fine. It's freakin light. No if you stare into a 850nm Fiber optic Multimode Gbic you would probably have a problem.

So enlighten us...what is your definition of "really nice IP megapixel cameras"? You could get 4 Avigilon 5mp domes, lenses, Licenses, Server, and have money left for a cruse.
-
Just for fun One of the customer do it yourself projects Avigilon 2 MP Fun, but in an analog comparison you're comparing apples to oranges. I think everyone understands the difference between fruits. Are sales so bad for MP cams you must jump into analog threads at every chance to show their superiority? I don't understand the need to bash analog over the head with MP at every chance. Why do you do that? Nice! Eat up 1/3 the available resolution looking at wall!

how to measure the performance of a IP camera ?
ssmith10pn replied to comic_nl's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
What's the frame rate? At 16mbps it must be wide open! -

Well I guess both my grandsons will end up blind. Both spent the first 2 years of their life with an IR camera in their bedroom. Ever had a sleep study done?
-
Well it appears all of the resolution is there.

Possible voltage drop / CCTV over cat 6 - VLOSS
ssmith10pn replied to techmob's topic in Security Cameras
I have seen 12.4 volts be 9.6 at the end of a 400' cat5e. I would pull an 18/2 minimum. -
No they just do it the RIGHT way. The way it should be done anywhere. Solid copper should be terminated to a permanent fixed location.
-
You terminate the cat5 to a patch panel, convert to BNC and run jumpers to the DVR.

I have had very good results with the Samsung SCC-B5369. In a shot very similar to yours the door faced East and was horrible first thing in the morning. When I installed this camera not only could I see the customers walking through the door I could see out in the parking lot too! I didn't even touch the menu. Who here does Lenel? We are doing training this week and I'm not impressed with the hardware. We have been a GE/Facility Commander/Picture Perfect/ Secure Perfect shop for a long time. One of our customers hit the group limit in Picture and is going to Migrate to Lenel. "Supposedly" They are working on making Lenel talk to Micro 2000/3000/Direct Door boxes. Lenel will not talk to a supervised FC reader but if they can talk to the micro the micro can handle that.

It's going to happen.

Been released for a while now man. They got a home server 2011 that was released in March 2011 and they have a small business server 2011 as well. I will say it again. The current version of Windows Server for Enterprise and basic is 2008. What does Home server and Small business have to do with that statement?
-
FYI the current version for Microsoft Server is 2008. Historically Server doesnt change that often. It was NT, 2000, 2003, now 2008.
