In the words of our Lenel instructor today: Weigand is Weigand is Weigand. The only difference is how different card/Reader combos strip off parts of it and piece it back together.

Looks like a pretty cool setup. http://altronix.com/index.php?pid=2&model_num=NetWay8M http://altronix.com/p_data/DSNETWAY8M.pdf

Depends on the situation. My 2 big customers are not going to allow any other switches in their closets. One is an All Nortel/Avia house and the other is all Cisco 6400 Blades. In most cases there is POE in the closets but there are situations where there isn't and a multi port injector would be ideal. One has about 60 closets and the other has 42.
-
I didn't check the price. I have used PowerDsign before on AP roll outs.
-
I have a few reasons. Existing non POE switch in place and just need power? Lets say you have 8 cameras going back to a closet where there is already a 48 port managed switch thats 50% full The IS department can't justify a 7000.00 48 port POE in this location and 8 injectors would clutter everything up. Is that a good reason?

Matt I'm going to take some pictures for you of a site I visit every now and then. 4 16 channel DVRs stacked in a rack and every camera is on a cat5 with a Balun. It looks like a cluster F*&K.

Ok then RG59 and a 18-2 Cat5 SUCKS for video and power. It's solid coper and ALWAYS breaks at the Balun or the power splice over time.

PTZ alarm presets in Lenel
ssmith10pn replied to jkunesh's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Not familiar with that platform yet. Lenel training on Monday. There should be a place in the software to set preset camera positions. You would set up a position for each door and bookmark. Then when that door contact opened it would trigger that preset position. -

Ahh VMS is Lenel OnGuard. I thought you were referring to Lenel OnGuard platform for the access control and you wanted to have a PTZ swing around to a door when it had an alarm. Can you give some more detail? Maybe give us a scenario? -
PTZ alarm presets in Lenel

Sure there is. But you failed to mention the camera or the VMS. Lenel OnGuard platform alarm output into the VMS Alarm input. -
Cat5 Baluns? Why? 1000' or RG59/18-2 Simiese cable and BNC connectors would be less money, cleaner install, and no future problems.

The ping time is freakin insane. But your less than 50 miles from the server.

Anyone else notice Zohan's ping time?

Vivotek or Acti. ?
ssmith10pn replied to Zohan's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Pretty cool IP ip is fairly new when it comes to development. It's not fun up on an extension ladder, with the laptop, dome cover, patch cords, tools, ect. Only a matter of time before the laptop hits the ground. -

Geovision ip cams
ssmith10pn replied to Zohan's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
For what your doing why not use Acti? I would only use Geovision if I was using their software. In fact when I was using Geovision software it was Cheaper to buy an Acti camera and a Geovision License than it was to buy a Geovision camera! -
New codec in sight: H.265
ssmith10pn replied to Razesdark's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
My guess is the Satellite Broadcasting industry would be interested. H.264 really helped them add more HD channels. -
How are you powering the cameras?

Messoa CatchAll Engine in License Plate Cameras
ssmith10pn replied to cglaeser's topic in Security Cameras
Just be aware with that much width you will miss some. If you make your shot wide enough to cover the whole width the pixel count will be too low. -

We were approached by this companies rep about 2 years ago. He claimed they did a lot of OEM stuff for several of the big name brands. -
My machine is about 3 years old. I use a tank of water every 2 nights. If I turn it up it will drown me. Mine is a Respironics REMstarPlus M Series.

I always thought it was done with filters to narrow down the light spectrum to only IR.
