MegaPixel Cameras - Images and Demos
ssmith10pn replied to rory's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I was looking at there product sheet and assumed the A32N was the dome version of the 732 yes? I'm going to check another source because the quote I just got was way too high for a 2mp camera. -
What Would a Pro Have Done?
ssmith10pn replied to dvarapala's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
A: I always punch down both ends of the cable. I let machines build patch cables. That way I can certify that as a "Channel" In BICSI terms a channel consists of a segment of cable punched down at both ends and certified. A patch cable at each end not over 5 meters and the whole channel combined not over 100 meters. -

That's very impressive that there is no blooming with the headlights and tail lights on the cars. I'm guessing that scene has a significant about of ambient light. -

Plug the NVR laptop into the switch, not the router. That way none of the raw video traffic has to flow through the router switch ports. -

Advice changing over to IP based Cameras Samsung SNV-7080R
ssmith10pn replied to Jasonpb's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Typically the video streams to the computer. The computer dumps any unwanted video and writes the needed video to storage is a nice little data base for easy searching and indexing. Can you post day and night shots? -

Another point about stand alone boxes. Can you have redundant power supplies, redundant drives, redundant servers, and management software to give you realtime status of the systems? Probably not important in a home environment but in mission critical environment it is. Imagine if a robbery, or a school shooting wasn't recorded because the box was down and nobody knew it. Or a psych patient says they were assaulted by a staff member? Or here's a good one. A patient dies while being transported from one facility to another. The hospital is facing a multi million dollar law suit and the video just so happens to spot one of the Ambulance techs knocked the o2 line off on the way out the door. That system just paid for itself. -

What about a 4 button keyless entry system for an automobile? It has relay outputs on it and the remote has decent range.

I'm not a big fan of it's UI but Geovision + Geovision IP Camera = No License, No card no nothing. Non Geovision Camera = 100.00 MSRP per camera. The License comes on a USB dongle. -

(5) 1-2MP cams on 10/100 switch?
ssmith10pn replied to rkolb86's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
You have to dig deep into the specs of the switch and make sure the backplane bandwidth is equal to a total of all the ports. Less expensive switches are not. Some only have enough bandwidth to carry one port at full load. -

(5) 1-2MP cams on 10/100 switch?
ssmith10pn replied to rkolb86's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Why are we even talking about Mega Bytes? The switch and cameras are rated in Mega Bits. Your 100Mb switch will be fine. -

ssmith10pn replied to rkolb86's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Someone has their bits and bytes mixed up. My 5mp Avigilons only draw 11.4 Mbps (Mega Bits Per Second) @ 5 frames per second. My 1mp H264 cameras pull 1.0 Mbps at 5 frames per second. Actually more like .8 -

What was the resolution? An Avigilon 16MP camera (4264 x 3248) will set you back about 8k for the camera and about 10k for a lens. Then you have to have the network and computer to handle it. -
Your correct. I had a early morning no coffee brain.

The shot in the first post I would estimate to be 60 feet wide at it's widest point? 60/480 = 8 pixels per foot. You need about 60 per foot to get a decent tag shot. that would be an 8' shot.

Ahh I remember the Compass downloader. Funny, you had to go through that box because the modem in your computer was too fast We still do a lot of Facility Commander and Picture Perfect. Picture is about to roll out a new version actually.
