I'll have to check into the US laws because they are funny about the chain of custody thing when it comes to prosecuting.

Hey Rory it's funny you mentioned the VCRs and USB drives. One of the Hospitals I maintain is always struggling burning CDs or DVDs because the investigators are not that computer savy. I said why don't you just buy cheap USB drives or Flash media instead of burning. You would have thought I had just walked on water. LOL!

We pulled about 100 analog cameras off of GE DVMRE DVRs and put them on Avigilon Jpeg 2000 encoders and it was almost night and day difference in the image quality of live video. The analog would go into the DVR then out to the Matrix Switcher and then displayed in 42" monitors either as singe views or the matrix output of the DVR. I think the reason it looked so much better is because the computer did such a better job of resizing the images to fit the monitor.

My experience is the light will blind the camera to anything outside the light if that makes any sense. -

Have you ever used it? Once a user has played with it they just about don't want to touch anything else. -

We use Omnicast instead of Milestone but 90% of our big accounts are changing to Avigilon. Just a better product and less per license. And unlimited clients free. -
Exactly. Most big corporate networks have no DHCP. And the VLAN depends on what closet the cable goes back to. The one facility I have in my head that I work on has about 45 closets across 4 campuses in 4 cities. City A: 10.1.xxx.xxx City B: 10.2.xxx.xxx City C: 10.21.xxx.xxx City D: 10.22.xxx.xxx Not to mention your Laptop is not permitted on their network so you have to VPN in from the outside. The software is a tool, just like a crimper, or a screwdriver. Get over it.

Oh and lets see you find a camera on the network that you don't know the IP of with your web browser.
-
Unfortunately, nobody told me that when I used a web browser to set up my Axis P3344. Well that explains it. You set up ONE camera. Do you actually do this for a living? Just wondering When you do systems that spread across entire campuses, cites and even across the state get back to me and your opinion will be valid.

Avigilon doesn't even have a web browser. You won't setup Axis without software.
-
Name some cameras you can setup without software in a static IP environment. If you only do a few cameras at a time then good for you. Try doing a job with hundreds of cameras from a web browser and constantly changing the IP address of your laptop.

If your a professional shop with a good reputation I wouldn't be looking at products that anyone off the street can get. Set your self apart from the trunk slammers. You need some products that provide you protection from local competitors. -

ssmith10pn replied to meck11's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
It's almost sounds like a connectivity issue. Is the camera sitting near your computer with a new patch cable connected directly from the NIC on your computer to the NIC on the camera? That would rule out any connectivity issues.
