I would say if you haven't done this sort of work before there is no shame in using ready made cables but make sure they are good quality ir your cable length potential wll be severely reduced You can get a dealer to make up some cables for you using rg%( Siamese or shotgun cable. Your other alternative would be use the type of baluns pictured below and have cat5 cable made to length with RJ45 ends The latter makes a very uncomplicated install, it's not perfect but might suit someone installing for the first time or without much installation experience

I agree with TGMcCallie, the bull that you were told sounds like an idiot excuse justifying why they use cheap CRAP. How can he see where the signal travels? Where did he get this C0ck & Bull story? He likely made it up. pure copper is more expensive thats the ONLY reason anyone might use it. Copper requires careful handling it's true but should be malleable too so it can take some punishment during installation, problem is if you make a long run of copper cable and test it and it has a break it's a pull and replace so careful handling is essential. Have you considered using Cat5 with baluns ? Same Principal applies just use solid copper conductors. You can send the signal upto 1000 ft without amplification and further with active baluns.

I thought installers always worked for love. and not for money? Have you got a cat?

I would say don't disregard any platform until you've looked at them all and made an informed an guided decision. Some IP systems are nowhere near as good as the analogue 960H that I've installed recently. If it isn't installed correctly you won't get the benefit and some people have never seen a professionally installed and configured system so of course they can be forgiven for the assumption that IP is automatically better although definitions can are higher, we're not all looking for HD TV comparable images just to capture the neighborhood cat scratch its pencil sharpener..... Good hunting....

Help me out having a brainfart...

Just be grateful I didn't have a webcam and a tea-tray LOL Crazy? well I am British... -
I would suggest at least one PTZ pan tilt and zoom camera for the vehicle and the others will probably be alright using static IR cameras. If you want it to bbe vakue for money I think you should get some installers to quote you. Throwing money away by doing it yourself is a mistake if you are easily confused. CCTV isn't that intersting to and end user usually, let a ppro get it rght so you can get on with your life.

Not really clear what you are trying to achieve here but... You need a good pair of glasses and a magnifying glass I think.

I know this post may be just a bit too late to help but on this subject I use DYN DNS and I had a few clients go down, it turned out the domain I was using had expired and had not been automatically renewed (good job Dyn) Fortunately this doesn't happen very often at all. A lesson I learned was that I put 5-10 clients on a domain then select another, in that way, if this happens again, only a limited number of clients will suffer a loss of service. To date there has been thankfully no re-occurrence of this.

The video signal at the DVR should read 1Vp-p. You ONLY require a single twisted pair for the signal (up to 300m) and use the other 3 pairs for 12V DC or 24V AC as appropriate. Your color convention is immaterial. My convention for UTP is for signal and DC/AC current white stripe is +ve abd solid color is -VE This is ONLY my wiring convention and not a required wiring code. GOOD LUCK now in 30 words or less advise me how to wire a consumer unit

GOOD QUESTION ? Sorry I have no idea all I know is that many times radio amateurs complain about interferance form theses homeplug devices however they haven't interfered with the router wifi so far and thats the same frequency range as the wireless dongles so I wouldn't think so. With that sort of question have you ever considered a career in CCTV installation?
-
NO, You may want to connect to an NetworkTime Protocol (NTP) server so that any evidence captured has the correct time displayed and you need an internet connection for that, Yes a 'Homeplug' (PLA) will work to connect to the router the other benefit is you can run client software on the PCs and view the camras over your network too. This method works very well indeed (but may interfere with shortwave radio) otherwise it works great I am using one now. If you have the internet connection you might just aswell connect your phone and laptop or mobile device NOt surewhat the style of the house has to do with the price of bananas but I like bananas because they have no bones

If you WANT Dahua. why not buy a Dahua. A rebranded Dahua is NOT a Dahua Its a logic I can't quite understand, I want to buy one brand but I want it to actually be another brand? What LOGIC? -
How did youget to the situation where you don't know the password and now need access? admin is usually all lower case
-
Do youmean you want to start earning money from CCTV and train as an installer or just want to sell it and not get involved in the service side?
-
The easy way, remove the network cable from the DVR. Ditto

Yoou're going to have to replace the heater with a 12/24v replacment and install a 12dc or /24vac supply. You'll need to run an additional cable for the power. I do NOT advise sealing moisture in with silicone even if it will be absorbed by dessicant, it will still be in the enclosure.

Oh you will learn a lot but ask questions if there are things you can't find out easily. Remember also the University of youtube is very helpful Remember there is no such thing as a stupid question, although I sometimes wonder... Welcome

why are some routers so slow to respond while fwrding ports?
Numb-nuts replied to Dirk_D's topic in Computers/Networking
You can buy a Netgear router for very little money, I would say if there is a chance it might solve your problem, it's definitely worth a go wouldn't you say? I like Netgear routers, they are easy to work with, they are well featured and they port forward very easily which is 99% of what I need to do with routers.
