Presumably the account which you are logging into has the required permissions set? Are you seeing the overlay display ( clock channel name) but not the picture

There are softwares that can analyze to quite ahigh level. Unfortunately I have never had the pleasure to work with such packages. The is a cheap (Free) software with a small abmout of amnalytic ability called SightHound (formerly Vitamin D) you can try it with one camera for free. You will need to check if your equipment is supported. Personally I found it wanting quite badly but that was 3 years ago it may have improved since then. You haven;t mentioned your equipment at all don't you feel that is somewhat relevant?

Don't want you to think we are ALL unfriendly and ignorant. Are you learning a lot by following this forum? I know that I am always learning from other people's experiences. We also have a few laughs too when we are allowed to.

Is it better to have 1 16-port POE switch or 2 8-port POE?
Numb-nuts replied to xavier4or's topic in Computers/Networking
With analogue Balns I always found it beneficial to have two 8 way baluns or even 1 x 8 way and 2 x 4 way balun recievers. The 16 way rack mounted balun wasnt practical or helpful at all and it restricted my installation options. Now I know you are talking about IP systems and IP switches and my experience with these is VERY limited indeed I still feel there are benefits to separating out the switching of the cameras, Theres no reason why you cant use two 8 way switches, both plugged direct into the router ( not daiseychaned) or even 4 x 5 way switches this would minimize any loss if one switch were to take a dive and it would be a geat indicator of what was wrong if fur specific cameras on a single switch went down I think I know where my first port of call would be... eggs and baskets my friend, eggs and baskets. -
What is your router? Thereason I ask is that I found today that doing the DHCP thing and then removing the DHCP has changed in a number of routers and you do NOT need to return the DVR to static, find the DVR by it's current IP address in the router's ethernet map and identify by both its IP address and mac number. There should be an option "always use this IP address" select that and leave the dvr set to DHCP . Then do your port forward. I had this tonight with a BT home hub4 and I got all ports opening except the UDP port, I'll have to tackle that one tomorrow What I am interested in at this time id this thing about the ping being blocked I use both Mac and PCs so ow would I unblock the ping function I have tried but can't find NAT settings ( i was advised it would be in the NAT settings in the BT Home Hub but I have systematically been though every menu and cannot find it,

From a purely practical point of view its never a great ide to have all your eggs in one basket. -
Hey if you work for nothing I have a few jobs you can do for me.... Seriously I learned a LONG time ago everytime you try to save a client money, it ends up costing you money. Not worth the effort. Obviously don't suggest work that doesn't need doing unless you want them to drop you fast. If what you quoted is what they need I agree thats the price end of discussion Alternatively you can add more dvrs and provided you supply equipment that uses the same remote client, you can piggy back them on the network so they can all be viewed on a PC screen. I have one client in a similar situation with 3 different non compatible DVRS. We threw them out and replaced all with Hikvision, networked them all together and now they can be viewed on any PC across the site using the IVMS remote client and in the general office on two dedicated 32 inch TV s running through a dedicated PC. They now have 64 cameras most of which are due to be changed at some point.

For reference try portforward.com and type in the brand and model of the router it will tell you how to 'default' port forward Because there are so many models of router perhaps they are not ALL listed choose another model no close to yours if yours in not present You can of course change the default ports to something different and see if they open. It may be another service application or game is using that port I think on the Lynksys you must reseve the LAN IP of your DVR before assigning ports to it.

Chances are then thatif you tried all the typical defaults then the admin password has been changed and you need to reset the DVR. You could try a Firmware re flash, and you'll be saked do you want to save our data> answer NO and the firmware will return the DVR to factory settings. This will mean of course that all the settings for accounts and recording schedules will be deffault and will require to be done again not to mention and network settings like local IP address which you can find in the router rules to restore to as before. Try the manufact6urer's website for a firmware update. Not really the best start for you... I don't know that particular DVR you may also be able to get a reset master password there is a software I've seen on some master disks but of course I never used it because I always set the master password myself and in the event of a lost password I can reset the accounts and give a new password. Saves a LOT of PFAFFING about. Once you overcome this you could have your IT mnager set the master admin account and other passwords so this sort of thing will never happen again.

What am appropriate name for the DVR.

Your requirements are a little strange in that a standard DVR system will do all that you want with a couple exceptions. 1 If you set it to motion detection, depending on the cat it will keep sending you emails and drive you to distraction. To overcome this you need a DVR that has alarm inputs set to record only when they are triggered, these should be linked to pet friendly PIR sensors that will recognise pets and animals and not trigger. Indoor ones are cheap enough Also you will need to ensure trees don't set it off either thats easier said than done. outdoor PIRs of any consequence are expensive, more than basic cameras 2 There is no point in disarming the CCTV everytime you return to the premises. You should be able to set it and leave it. \Ohter than to say everytime I have set email notification the client has asked me to stop it within a week. You will need to pay for a DDNS account unless your DVR manufacturer offers one free Take a look a Hikvision.

Looking for a new test monitor

I'd be very interested to know how that works, however back-focus isn't difficult to set. -
why dvr camera skips time intervals when recording
Numb-nuts replied to dksellou's topic in Security Cameras
IF these are set to motion detection, it could possibly be a incorrectly set recording schedule. Triggering doesn't necessarily mean recording. -
I'm looking for a non-Hikvision DVR.
Numb-nuts replied to pecosdave's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hikvision is going to be your most likely supporting MAC users, There are others but I can't advise as the Hikvision is my only Mac experience (and it is a good one) The web interface on the Hikvision is the best I've seen in my opinion. -
Maybe, but not 110V or 240V

I would concur with this. Then either reserve the IP in your router or create application for the ports that need to open and assign to the DVR's IP and assign that IP to the DMZ all depends on your router
