  1. Rip it all out and start again, analyzing the problems will probably take longer than a fresh install, would be easier and probably be a whole lot neater. There probably isn't any logic behind the existing wiring or you would have it sorted by now.
  2. Dave, why bother trying to find out, why not buy the Hikvision in the firstplace? If you want to use IVMS then get a Hikvision wouldn't that be a whole lot simpler than speculating if they are the same unit and zapping the firmware only to find out you were wrong?
  3. So far there is nothing readily available for ip to my knowledge but ip cameras often have a bnc port for pointing and focus setting. Think about it, the IP camera would have to be attached to a network device or using a crossover cable directly to a portable PC. Now my laptop isn't the best around bt I'm still not taking it up a ladder with me. there isa poe intercept device There is one device called the AXIS T8414 Installation Display I don't know enough about it other than it's too expensive to warrant consideration.

    Generic DVR password reset

Really thanks a million. Thats the one. Thanks to everyone who took the time out to reply. You have all really got me out of a hole. I sincerely hope you will charge for that service, getting customers out of trouble saving them money deserves some form of reward.
  5. looking at those two screens, your DVR's lan address is still set to DHCP as they have changed from one to the other. If it's still set to DHCP the address will not be correct like trying to open the door with the wrong key IT WONT WORK...

    Transfer

First before jumping the gun and assuming anything could you say what the CCTV equipment is. I will assume your unconventional VGA input is a working function. Some, in fact most DVRs can be accessed direct by their HTTP portal. Each user will require an account with the relevant permissions but they would simply type the network's public IP address and the port number of the DVR thus publicIP:HTTP Port (eg 82.21.20.1:80) where they should see a portal screen asking their usernameand password (hense the user account) and then login to the DVR itself viewing all outputs. The problem may be that some DVR's require active X installed and (internet explorer too) thats fine on a PC but on smartphones, android and iPhones etc I am not sure it will be possible. You may need to install appropriate apps so rather defeats the object of what you wanted to achieve.
  7. YOU are not recording if you can't playback and if you are getting the message "No Power" then it could be a permissions issue. No power is Chenglish for no permission. als a common playback issue with CMS client software amongst those who are not familiar with CMS is using Local playback instead of Remote playback in error. Read the manual that came with your DVR for recording settings.
  8. Charge whatever you think is appropriate. What is your skill base or trade? if you come unstuck you won't get paid anyway, and if you overcome technical issues, you'll have earned it. good hunting

    QVIS networking issue

I don't know why you didn't just port forward the thing from the start. Those cloud based DVRs are fine but after a few years when technology moves on, manufacturers are going to resent keeping those cloud servers going and will simply abandon you and your client. Eventually they will all be abandoned and will all have to be port forwarded anyway. I'm amazed to hear this question here since QVIS have a terrific tech support team who have always been great with such questions. If you don't know how to port forward, you need to teach yourself, with a bit of patience you will crack it. If you work in CCTV you need to know it anyway but I'm not sure you will crack it before tomorrow. Hats off to you if you can... Port forward everytime... Does the Medusa use PSS or CMS? for CMS the media port is 34567 by default and if it uses PSS the deafult port will be 377777. Some DVRs that use CMS can be made to use PSS by opening an extra port with a value 100 more than the original port you set. Then place the higher port number in the PSS settings, No changes to the DVR settings are required. These cloud based servers where designed for those that don't wish to learn how to port forward. It is a tool to make CCTV more plug ' play IMHO Default ports should always be used unless there are more than one DVR through a single router, or unless the ISP has the ports you want blocked, or another network device uses the required ports. If your client doesn't have a ststic IP you will have to set up a DDNS account and provide the client with a hostname. With a DDNS account you can create upto 30 hostnames per account, so it makes more sense that you open the account and put clients on the DDNS account. There is nothing to stop you making an annual charge for the hostname since you will have to pay an annual charge. I do this and not one of my clients has ever complained, and you can make a profit from offering this service.
  10. NO I didn't think you'd bother...
  11. It may be that what you have learned that you could benefit others and by posting it on here with the firmware file. At some time in the future someone may have the same issue and this would help them out, That s what the forum is all about sharing knowledge.
  12. VERY SENSIBLE ! Let the router's DHCP do most of the work for you. You only need to write down the ip address if you have a memory like a sieve its likely to be 192.168.XXX.XXX but not always (for the usual nit-pickers)
  13. Dahua manuals are always slight changes to the model supplied and you won't always see the same DVR that you have in it's manual. I can understand your confusion. dexterash just gave you the real answer to your issue. Its the best indicator you are going to get without opening the box and ripping the motherboard out and searching for numbers. (Don't do that please) Why is it important?
  14. This is not a talk talk issue as I have port forwarded that router modem with that ISP several times. There are no major issues unless you haven't completed it properly assuming your DVR good which there is no indication to the contrary I am unclear because your description says it sees it then is doesn't . Are you saying that NOW the DVR is not listing as a connected device whereas before it did? Also if someone tried it out on a Virgin Superhub they would have had to change the IP address on the DVR The default IP address for Virgin Media superhub is 192.168.0.1 and on the technicolor its 192.168.1.1 so that was changed for a start. Also, after getting the router to see the DVR and having created rules you must assign your DVR's address to the DMZ. There is no alternative with this router you MUST assign the DVR's IP to the DMZ or there is no way to access it from outside through porting. Then there is the issue which you haven't even mentioned, is your Talk Talk account a dynamic or static IP? If it's dynamic you will also have to enable the DDNS and obtain a static hostname from a DDNS provider, BEFORE you caan even think of contacting your DVR from outside the LAN.

Let me see if I can find out what's going on by reading up. Sorry it didn't work for you. I said those routers were horrible to set up, always some little thing with them. Have you spoken to the Technical support at your ISP? I have always found them a very good source of information when unexplained things happen like this.
  16. Hello everyone I have these test meters surplus to requirements for best offers by PM These units retail for about £140 each incl VAT NG Ranger Video Level Meter VLM1 (left) This is actually a video level meter, sorry I made an error earlier. Its useful in checking the video signal level 1vp-p. It measures the peak and sync levels which when combined should read 1vp-p. It's way more convenient than lugging a great big oscilloscope around with you. NG Ranger Test Card Generator TCG1 (right) this is no extra help to us as our existing meters all have this function now. ..................VL M1.................................................TC G1

    hello from cctv virgin

Rule no 1 is that you only get what you are prepared to pay for with CCTV. There are no 'real bargains', just poor quality equipment sold cheap. Buying from reputable dealers is key to getting what you want. Box shifters don't know enough to advise you. Stick around and read you'll pick up some tips for sure...

Subnet is in error Change to 255.255.255.0 Is the DHCP range to be '100' or '1' if it's '1' just type 1 which would be 192.168.1.223 if not ignore this You can avoid such errors if you follow this procedure main menu>system>network... 1. Select DHCP save and restart DVR. 2. Disable DHCP (untick) and then change the device identifier (last series of 3 digits) to the value you selected i.e 223 3. Save and restart. This method takes care of all settings such as default gateway address and subnet mask and DHCP-range values. You are NEARLY there!

    my ISP has Private IP

It's his client's ISP and he said that changing ISP is not on the cards in the near future because of the existing contract term. However, nothing to stop them getting a second line with a more reasonable provider is there? especially if CCTV over IP is important to them.

    my ISP has Private IP

I think what you are saying is that your client's IPS is a WLAN a wider LAN similar to a telephone party line? If thats the case then any inbound traffic would require the ISP to port forward any requests for you and frankly I don't see them doing that since more than one client wants it that that port taken care of and eventually there's no firewall. Thats a REAL HEADSCRATCHER

    my ISP has Private IP

A DDNS server is a nameserver allows you to create a unique hostname for a server or network where the IP address changes.(i.e it has a dynamic IP address) The hostname takes the place of your IP address in settings on your phone and PC. The clever bit is that in your DVR / NVR settings under netservice there is a DNS option where you send a notification to your DDNS account automatically whenever your network's IP address changes, it updates your DDNS server account and any traffic that requests your hostname is directed to your network's 'current' registered IP address. Neat eh? Wish I'd though of that!
  24. I have always found Dahua very responsive to such questions. No doubt they have the answer and will respond quickly??????
