  1. sounds an interesting prospect, and Hey while you are at the junk yard why not buy the nasty dog they aways seem to have in every junkyard and train it to bite the neighbour, perhaps take out a few neighbourhood kids at the same time.... That should REALLY solve the problem peacefully

Yeah I saw the free trial offered for £10 on ebay "chuckle"
  3. Just run a pair of cat6 for the PTz, Use the second splitting the pairs for your 24Vac if it's analogue. If it's an IP cam then get POE and you are laughing. I always run a spare cat5 where there is a tricky install, it costs but it often pays you back with interest. Happy remodelling
  4. I am glad to hear you are not in the feud, try and steer your friend towards MEDIATION that the only way to go ... Don't allow yourself to get embroiled i the feud, as they will surely expect you to take sides. Good luck !
  5. I have BOTH of the ones you mention. There are pros and cons to having too many functions on one device. I have on my blue a tone generator and receiver, multimeter, ping test (very useful) test card and color bar generator (invaluable in fault finding, flikr test, cat5 tester Great unit I didn't do fiber optic so I didn't need the optical power meter, but it does have a video signal level meter. More importantly it doesn't get the display thrown into a frenzy when viewing cameras with intelligent IR which my orange one does. It also has a 10x zoom and a single channel DVR so you can recoed what you view get approval by the client before closing up the junction box. The multimeter is invaluable and the ping tester allows you to find out what IP addresses are free in less than 30 seconds. without getting your laptop out. It is worth the extra but if it goes wrong you will be stuck as I was when my orange one went "tits-up" Some of the functions still work perfectly so I still keep it in the van That too has the multimeter. Its called model HVT2603. If you order it from China and can afford to wait, often if it comes through the post no duty to pay but if it is delivered by one of the courier services a month o so later you get a tax and duty bill as they have to declare handling it. The Equivalent QVIS one is about double what I paid even with the tax and duty. For cable tracing and testing I bought another very useful device. This really was a bargain and I find it invaluable especially when I find myself at a switch/patch panel after installing cat6 outlets. I use it to prove all my cat5 and cat 6 cables `and even to test cables after installation before finding there is a broken conductor. (cat6 often) I know that there are several function repeated but I like that because if one is ever damaged lost or stolen, I can keep working. Hope this has been a help PM me where are you?
  6. Have you approached the CCTV owner? There is bound to be some overspill fro their property into neigbouring properties. If as you suggest the cameras view a disproportionate area of neighbouring properties to their own then indeed you could have cause for complaint. This is the very typical sort of dispute that arises where amateurs delve into fitting their own CCTV systems, a professional would not have created or allow to be created such a situation. It may well be that he owner has no experience and has no idea how to site cameras correctly and just plonked them up at the most convenient mounting point. I often see more cameras on this soert of instllation than it would take me or other professionals to cover the same area. MY PROFESSIONAL ADVISE Getting back to your CCTV owning neighbour, do try to resolve the matter without involving official agencies, or you could ESCALATE the situation into a long running neignbourhood feud in which nobody ever wins (do they? ). I get the impression from your comments that you are looking for a grounds upon which to base a complaint to officials so it may well be that there is already a feud brewing.... I do not want to support any such effort, try to resolve this among yourselves if the desire is there.....if not this is not a place to gather ammunition.
  7. Go back to the beginning, remove ALL the rules you created. Back to the DVR check DHCP to enable it okay that and restart the DVR, then go into network menu and uncheck the DHCP and change the device identifier to a free location. I always use 201-210 because that way I can add other DVRs later and the 201 is DVR 1 202is DVR2 etc. )Never needed more than 5 on one network) Now okay that (save) and restart your DVR Login to your router, "192.168.0.1" and take a look at the 'connected devices' and see if your device is identified. (no reason it shouldn't other than an abscent or malfunctioning ethernet cable) I'm not sure if this router which is a new one on me, uses IP reservation, but it should do so look for that and select and reserve it. Now recreate your rules and assign to your DVRs IP. save and logout. It amazes me that often people don't hit the APPLY or SAVE button Don't try to leave the rules in before identifying and reserving your DVR's IP, IT WON'T WORK Now test the open ports and then if reporting open, switch off or remove the ethernet cable to the DVR and test again they should be closed. Now reconnect your ethernet cable refresh and view connected devices, if you DVR is there again logout and try the remote software and apps. The HTTP port may not work without installing Active X. I don't know as both the router and the DVR are not brands I am familiar with here in the UK. This method is good for Netgear routers too and never fails with Netgear I love Netgear Routers despite hating the company that bears that name, their warranty stinks. Buy a new device and if it fail in the first year even straight out of the box, they will let you have a refurbished unit. Sound like a good deal.....NOT
  8. Oh Boy! I don't think I can be bothered to explain how irony works.
  9. Has your LAN range changedwith the change of router? Loads of people miss this simple detail when changing routers. Check if the range identifier i.e the third set of digits in your IP address of your router, has changed. That DVR by default has a LAN of 192.168.0.1 If the 0 replaces a 1 from your previous router the settings inyour network menu wont work unless you change the default gateway so enable DHCP and restart then disable DHCP. BUT, You did say the ports were reporting " open", if you selected TCP or UDP if you haven't already done it, select both from the drop down on the router. Its just occured to me that your firewall may not be turned on? check a few random ports to see if they too are open if they are you will need to turn the firewall on in the router settings Good luck............. hope this has been some small help

How do they generally fix the ceiling plasterboard (sheetrock to our American friends) to the underside of the beam and brlok floor? Do they fix battens in line with the beams or across the beams? I know where two dwellings are separated by a floor it's likely to be a beam and block (recent build) and a conversion it's less likely? Right Wrong?

    Q-see Smart PSS stopped working.

You may have just done something or a network glitch occured. If it's now working there's nothing more to say...

    Camcorder vs cctv cam

Also, don't forget you need to use noodles with CCTV, no noodles necessary with camcorder.

    CCTV stuck

On start up the camera should do a small rotation to establish that the motors and drive belts are intact and working, if it just doesn't move at all and that is all you are getting, I would take a look at the drive belts first. Perhaps one has snapped? or even the slip ring has failed? You don't mention climbing up to the camera to take a look? Did you do a pre-install bench test. I always do this as often it's a real pain to work on the camera after it's installed.

    Which Qvis Camera?

Where do you think the QVIS cameras come from? Hint: begins with C and ends in HINA

I understand about not wanting too run a cable through the house, as in my own installation I had exactly the same feeling. I currently use and have and been using successfully a 500mbps home Plug by Netgear. I also use Zyxel on client's homes and businesses where the same situation exists. I suspect you mean the DVR is in the loft and not the cameras. The wireless cameras will require a sender and a receiver. I suggest the receivers are located near the eaves of he loft so they have the shortest distance to the cameras that would be outdoors, indoors, well I have never used wireless indoors yet. I can generally fish cablet through floor spaces always remembering that joists run the opposite way to floorboards or usually across the shortest distance across the room. Obviously its a different picture with concrete beam floors although these do sometimes have a 1 inch void between the ceiling finish and the concrete blocks etc I do not recommend attempting this to a DIYer., as a professional I still encounter ceilings that defeat me occasionally. A certain element of luck is also helpful. I don't recommend this as there are too many pitfalls and potential for damage. A tip is you must try is that I remove the ceiling rose first to asses the viability of a cable rout through the ceiling. Better still if there are recessed spotlights there must be space to run cables.

I have to admit, I haven't ever done this as I either make my own cables or use a homeplug, but I am pleased for you that you made some progress. The wifi connections that I have heard about have all been troublesome but then trouble is my bisiness, nobody ever calls me when things are working well....! But our PVs and networks all use WiFi so there is no reason at all that a DVR (which is just another computer) shouldn't work well with wifi. I hope you report your experiences so we can all learn from your success!
  18. If the seller will help you, DONT touch it until he returns or you'll destroy any chance of fixing it, Be patient.... I was trying to save you frustration and upset. A REALITY CHECK....! I am being REALISTIC. Sorry if it sounds like I am being unkind, I didn't ask you to attempt a re-flash after owning the device only 2 weeks...and I didn't ask you to buy a poor quality DVR. If there was any good news I would be happy to offer advice but as the other guy said it's a new motherboard or a new DVR. I have years of experience and even I only reflash firmware as a LAST resort. What makes you so much more skilled? Buy a brand that is properly supported, has downloads on the manufacturer's website then you'll be okay. Buy it from a dealer and they can support you. There is a reason they are more expensive than those ebay jokers. I am guessing that you are one of those stubborn people that REFUSE to take advice that they don't like.....too bad! Hope things work out but you won't fix it unless you're VERY VERY lucky and frankly I wouldn't hold your breath waiting

    KGuard

Not the worst systems by any means. Some are real cheap rubbish but some work okay. At least they have a support network consumers can referback to if information of troubleshooting is required.
  20. In the Netservice menu you will see the RTSP default setting, (probably port 554) which you must open in your router so that when it is requested the video can respond. This has always worked fine when I have been asked to provide RTSP stream. Nowadays I do it anyway because iit takes no time at all to open an extra port while port forwarding the media HTTP and mobile monitor ports.

    Which Qvis Camera?

My advice would be to buy from a QVIS dealer and not through ebay.
  24. They often use the fact that there is CCTV to place callers on the back burner " oh we'll look at the CCTV later" A man called the police to report a burglar in his garden summer house. Police said we haven't anyone to send, lock yourselves in the main house and wait for the criminal to leave. Ten minutes later he called the police again and said this is Mr Jones again, no need to attend now, I took my shotgun and killed the intruder. Minutes later several police vehicles arrived sirens blazing lights flashing to find the intrude alive and still in the act. The lead policemen said MT Jones, I thought you said you'd shot him? The man replied Yes and I thought you said there was nobody available to attend?
