I had a client complaining that he was unable to get his CCTV DVR from his phone regularly. I kept an eye on it and was convinced his DVR was not updating the dyndns account, so eventually I called into his home. I had to laugh when I visited only to find he was switching the DVR off ( but left the computer on) before leaving home. The had to cry when I charged for a call out.

CAT 5e external cable - Best way to fix to brick work
Numb-nuts replied to smcctv's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
With regards to cable clips with masonry nails, nailed direct into mortar, this isn't always easy especially if the mortar is old or crumbling. Sometimes if the mortar is over hard, your masonry nails will bend so it's a minefield. I have in some really annoying circumstances had to drill every hole, inserting a pin-plug and fixing to that. Fine if you have just one or two cables. And for your trouble at the end of it all your fingers will be throbbing after several clouts with a hammer.....(((((((((((( ! ))))))))))) Welcome to the REAL World... -
Whats the PSA, a licence or something? What geographic areas is it in force?

CAT 5e external cable - Best way to fix to brick work
Numb-nuts replied to smcctv's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
USE A HAMMER ! In all seriousness. If your cables leave the property on the ground floor or withing reach from a person on the ground, you should start with a junction box (a 1 way conduit box) and run conduit up the wall until first floor window cill level of slightly lower. There you can radiate to the cameras using the brick joints as a line to follow and they are then able to take masonry nails and cable clips. If you have a bundle of cables i.e. more than 2 then run either 20mm black conduit or 25mm black conduit. (Unless the walls are rendered and painted white then use white conduit for appearance sake.) -
Is this Q-See a pretty decent system?

Now there's a word to conjure with... -
BARE? as in naked as a jaybird? Surely you mean bear as in bearing the burden of guilt or bearing a load? Just proves what a great language English is and how Don't you just hate it when people ask you to 'bear with them' on the telephone, what they really mean is 'just stay on the line like a lemon' while I go and get a cup of coffee and a pretzle often they say this several times in a conversation so I always say I'm still bearing from the last time you said that or "can I stop bearing now?" Sorry for the off topic rant...over to you.

If you want a system Bundles is NOT the way to go unless you want a compromise. A bundle takes no account of your requirements, so all you get is a general purpose system which is quite limited. Find a local dealer and they will advise what you need and thats the sort of added value you will get dealing with professionals, and not from the multinationals that want nothing but your money and offer little or no help in selection. Bundles are for lame-brains, no offense intended to any that have a bundle system... lol

I have had the odd few that had problems but I resolver to destroy those immediately so they don't get mixed in with the good ones. I buy them in big batches and the only time they are an issue is when I have had to use active baluns with them, but not always an issue. Good to remember they are NOT water resistant and take the necessary precautions to protect them from water/moisture. I always squeeze a little Contralube into the terminals and into the plug, and onto the DC or 24VAC connectors I never find that white dusty corrosion, in my junction boxes. Doesn't cost much and lasts ages, a little goes a LONG way.

It's encouraging that you managed to get a DNS account working and I haven't read the whole thread but I assume you managed to open the ports set in the network settings including port 80 (which is often open already. I use www.yougetsignal.com to check open ports. If you checked everything and the ports are correct and open then you probably have an error in your app and software settings. I haven't instaled a K Guard for some time now so I can't honestly remember the poert numbers and any stuff that might need attention. I applaud your efforts so far...

I don't have enough information and I don't know what the topography is so I am not in a position to make and reccomendations at this point. Unless you are willing to go out and take light readings with a lux meter... for analogue not Hikvision. I think I mentioned Pelco ....?
-
I would be looking at true day night cameras in heated housings. Now which ones is a matter for whats available to you locally. I like Samsung, Vantage and JVC but with your budget you might consider Pelco or some other high end brand. Withyor budget you might be better paying a professional or likely you'll end up with a hotch-potch of good and bad. It's not just a choice of choosing a brand, each camera has to have a suitable lens chosen, to suit a specific situation, lighting, distance, field of view, where it's looking, environmental issues too many small things for an amateur to even contemplate. Of course you could be lucky, but don't count on luck. Thats one of the reasons we all make a living still even though Maplin and Costco would have everyone think that CCTV is a Valid DIY medium. ITS NOT. What those places sell are general purpose compromises at best but now every clever-cloggs thinks he can install a system. Best of luck...

Quite sophisticated for the money. Some of their cameras are rubbish but their DVRs are great.

If you pay rent and have a formal rental agreement to live in the house as a docile, that implies in law that you have a reasonable expectation to privacy regardless of who owns the property. This legal principal would apply in most civilized countries of the world. Have a legal representative write the owner a letter warning them not they have no right to view "your" property. They may collect rental but may collect nothing else and if you pay your rent and look after the property in a reasonable manner they have no legal rights over you unless they can show reasonable cause for concern. i.e the property being used for illegal purposes etc.

Well it's definitely Chinese and definately generic. You get the support you pay for. Have you ever wondered why all the official imports are well supported and the Chinese CRAP isn't It's because the importers either specify application softwares and drivers or have their own written specifically for these generic badge engineered products. If you want the support don't expect to cut out the middle man to save a few $$$ or £££and then ask the middle man for help.

We've had this discussion before and the term CCTV is as you rightly say CLOSED Circuit TV. The systems are st5ill closed circuit however the fact that they are almost always streamed to the internet does not make them Broadcast TV as they are streamed to a restricted audience. It's a bit like owning a car (private transport) and the fact that you might pick up a hitch-hiker doesn't make it public transport I answered this thread because strangely I have been pondering on this question recently and my conclusion is that you will not supersede the CCTV reference to reflect the changes you mentioned, since it is now deeply embedded in modern culture.

Yeah in fields where animals are roaming an alarm switch at the gate to trigger recording and a recorded meessage like the Voice Off system might just do the trick for you. Both the camera brands you mention are fairly poor performers across their raange. Take a look at Samsung or Lilin PTZ cameras and if your budget can stretch that far Redwall PTZ, Security Dynamics and even Eneo but I warn you they are not cheap toys like you see you see on the internet auction sites. Invest in some signage and a few dummy cameras first, also get the animals microchiped and again signs notifying thieves that they will have to deal with microchips and hiding from CCTV before selling the animals on. They may find it easier to go where no chips or CCTV is in play. Our friend here has a point the CCTV's primary job is to deter theft not record it so let the thieves know they stand a chance of getting identified. Make yours a difficult hard target not a soft one. Meantime I hope your animals remain safely in your care

I agree their equipment is massively overpriced for what it is. They rely on customers not knowing what they are really buying and what specs are important. They market the goods to best suit themselves, however they are a retail outlet, so this should hardly come as a surprise to anyone. On a positive note, Maplin can and do offer excellent customer support, especially with CCTV products. If you are doing your installation and setup yourself then you may appreciate their support more than perhaps someone that is more experienced. I remember the first time I was called out to setup a Maplin system for the internet viewing, I hadn't a clue about the software and apps they used so I called Maplin support to ask. I was impressed by the knowledge and enthusiasm of the support technician.

Trainee CCTV Installation technician Greater Manchester
Numb-nuts posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Greater Manchester or Bolton UK. I am now way too busy to deal with all my work myself, and need to employ a trainee who has an interest in CCTV. CCTV is all I install, although there are some alarm projects. Tavcom Training in CCTV Intruder/Fire alarms and access control, will be provided to the successful candidate during the apprenticeship. Also uniform and safety gear. Some tools will be provided but the trainee will probably want to buy their own over time. The apprenticeship will lead to BTEC Advanced in Security installation. The candidate will be asked to work over a months assessment and if successful, a formal apprenticeship scheme will be arranged for the candidate. PM me if genuinely interested, no time-wasters please. Name and a few words to say why you would like to apply for this job ALSO....................Those with a record of offending should not apply -

Thas because it is a probably generic Chinese manufactured to be a ready to brand for i resellers importers Have you tried entering nothing in the password field?

This is by far the most neat and economic way to crack this particular nut, and if you can''t fit RJ45 plugs yourself , then you can get away with ready made patch leads. This method makes a very simple and tidy solution which anyone can apply. You can do the same with a wireless mouse and a USB balun hiding the usb balun above a ceiling or behind a couch etc od bringing it next to the VGA screen then you can backup and control the DVR remotely without access to the DVR but you'ss need a two port USB hub.
