Best way to run VGA cable

If it's only 25' I've tried these and they work well enough for VGA and for a lot less expenditure than a 25' VGA cable. Cat 5 patch leads are so cheap but you should try it before running the cable to satisfy yourself that your work won''t be wasted.
  2. If you find that complicated, then stick to what you know and employ an installer! There is always the use of Siamese cable or shotgun cable but you'll need to learn to crimp BNCs and have the appropriate crimp tool and the cable is heavy and hard to work with so Cat5 isn't the ONLY way but it is the preferred way for most professionals.

    ground loop isolator question

NO shouldn't matter as all you would be doing is introducing a physical break into the loop. but it's easier to install at the DVR end especially if you have a few to install.... Make Sense?

    ground loop isolator question

My advice take it back where you bought it and get THEM to explain it to you. They made the profit let them support you. MT advice to you if you want to learn, google ground loop and check out technical pages online.

    ground loop isolator question

In the first place, you would only need a ground loop isolator if an amateur installed your system. TYPICAL AMATEUR TRICK. Put it next to the DVR, but the best option would be to install the system to avoid earth loops altogether. Two earth sources with a potential to earth difference of 0.1 are enough to create an earth loop

Caught the thief the 1st day <video>

Not bad at all, fact is it did the job just fine. BLC with WDR would have stopped the effect of the sun through the open door balcking out the screen area while the door was open. What was he doing with that paper on the table top? So what sort of things did he take? In my experience people are nearly always surprised when they find it's someone known to them. I can understand the utter frustration at not knowing what or who! Now I imagine you are 100% in favour of protecting yourself this way. Not to me, never again! This would have made a great local news story. You can feel rightly satisfied. I imagine you kept the CCTV to yourself or this thief might have found out.
  9. The switch wouldn't have occurred to me but it's worth a try. Also You could try ferrite rings on your HDMI cable. You can buy split ferrites and tape them onto the lead at each end. It will certainly have an effect but how much is a 'suck it and see' question.

    Wire difference???

I use Cat5 for analogue cameras. Its great stuff. I use a single twisted pair for the video signal and the remaining pairs for the power. I separate the remaining pairs at both ends and re-twist them into solid colour conductors together and and striped conductors together. These carry the DC or AC power to the camera

IVMS is not enough for hikvision dvr

ARE you kidding? I just sold three Hikvision DVRs to a company on the strength of the IVMS 4200 software and its simplicity and the fact that they can add any number of DVRs and IP cameras in a single interface. Incidentally I have a cousin who's son in named Elad, what country are you in friend?
  15. Di you buy the cameras from the installer or the business that recommended him? Installers by the nature of their work are sometimes late because if a job has issues they have to stay with it and that can make them late. I presume you are annoyed that he didn't notify you he'd be late or did he? I too have occasionally had issues with bad cat5 or cat6 cables and yes its better that he replace it in the original instal than patch it up the way some installers might. I obviously can't comment on the extra money for setting up your internet again as I don't know his terms and conditions, but if it was because the ISP provided a new router, then it's hardly his fault and it would be reasonable that he be paid for a return to redo the work he previously completed. All he has to sell s his time and skill, he needs to be paid for his time especially when it's not his fault. I charge my clients after they get a router replaced or upgraded etc, why should it be my responsibility to redo work I originally completed correctly? NO when I have had to do this, my clients have all of them not resented paying they realize I am not to blame and I need to charge for my time. Its the same as when vandals damage equipment, you can't expect the warranty to cover that and when the installer comes out to repair he can't be expected to make repairs for nothing. Some customers don't immediately understand these issues until it is explained to them. After that it's no longer such an issue. It's hard enough making a living when idiots are selling inventory over the internet at virtually cost price and selling it as DIY stuff. This is not said to make you feel badly or to criticize you, just to explain from the installers point of view. He should have had the courtesy to let you know he'd be later though, thats bad manners in my opinion. Hope this has helped to take the sting out of your experience just a little. added update Of course there are recently a lot of Johnny come lately installers who are 'have a go hero's' rather than trained technicians and they sell their work cheap, some people looking for a cheap deal fall right into the trap and hire hem then things like spending a month tryng to figure out the DVR setup and remote viewing happen. A trained and experienced installer would have al the cameras focused and directed, the dVR setup is usually half a day at the most maybe a whole day for 32 or more cameras with PIR triggers etc. Remote setup should be done within a half day maximum. Many of the jobs I've dome this year are completing the jobs some of these DIY monkeys have abandoned I started out as a DIYer but dedicated myself to training and being trained. Now I'm a trained monkey

Please help a noob monitor construction

The only other option is a net encoder but they cost as much as a low end DVR so you'd either be better off with a DVR or use a IP PTZ connected to a broadband connection and viewed over the internet, You could save to a local SD card and operate via manufacturer's software. You'd need a good wifi account. Personally I'd opt for the analogue setup with DVR but others mat prefer the other option, see what suits YOU best.
  18. TO pick up reg plates reliably you have about the right budget for one ANPR camera and nothing else. You can get some plates in good conditions but I would expect to get three reasonably high resolution IR cameras and a fourth Varifocal for that Budget,
