no password for 16ch avtech -CCTV MPEG4 Network DVr
Numb-nuts replied to wkdwrx's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Did it occur to you it might be stolen? If a seller doesn't know the password you have to wonder why not! There are two ways to reset the password to default on AVTECH but I'm not prepared to discuss them online. You need to find a local CCTV technician who will decide if he wants to reset your password to default. I charge £80.00 for this service and I want evidence of the original purchase unless the seller gave you his original invoice with the unit, you won't have that. good luck -
There's a lot of people looking for things to re-sell and scanning for bargains, Good job you put a reserve. What about advertising them on Craigs list? I hear thats a good one or even gumtree?

Wish you luck then, there's always a buyer on ebay? Of course no point me making you an offer I'm in the UK I used to live in NYC with my uncle years ago,( Far Rockaway) You won't have too much trouble finding a buyer.

Why is CCTV interesting to you?
Numb-nuts replied to lokariototal's topic in General Digital Discussion
Don't forget to install CCTV in your motor-home too, but you need cameras and a DVR that do not require regulated voltage or buy a 12v to 12v regulator. I found your story of how you got started very interesting. -
Passive Baluns are they all the same?
Numb-nuts replied to kentuckynet's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
My take is that since your whole aim is to receive and record a signal, it's not worth having great equipment only to skimp on the weakest link between the recorder and the camera. I have found that on accaision the cheap one's freeze the image. Also they don't always match multi channel baluns so can be a waste of money. If you are using a few over short distances I suppose you won't notice the difference too much. For little more per camera, the baluns can make a lot of difference The more expensive baluns tend to not pick up phase hum as readily. I also notice that the cheaper ones aren't as reliable over distances as the more expensive CONCLUSION. You get what you pay for. be lucky... -

Brilliant place to start " title="Applause" />

It's important that the mounting suffers as little vibration or movement as possible since ANPR cameras are set to narrow angle to concentrate on a small area and therefore potentially suffer from lens shake of vibration more than a wider angle lens might. It's all accademic as he can't be bothered and his client doesn't want to pay that kind of money. He'' end up supplying something his client won't be happy with so quite rightly he's lost interest. Very sensible. " title="Applause" />

They want it all but don't want to pay for it. They want hidden cameras but when you ask why hidden they dry up because they've been caught out being a smart *rse. There is only one thing wrong with this business CUSTOMERS.

[Find a Steel plate manufacturer, I have one here in Bolton UK who would manufacture me something like you show for about £100 fully paint finished. You need to close the aperture with some 5mm anti vandal Lexan or similar sheet. The guy that makes me special brackets etc from steel works in the Commercial Vehicle body manufacturing and repair. The CCTV stuff is just seen by them as a fun distraction. They have sved me days looking for special brackets, posts, solutions etc. They simply manufacture anything what I want that I can't buy commercially ready made. They did make me some great anti-attack housings for a local Prison job I was doing, those have stood upto the test of attack and been very successful and effective. Your design will need a method of sliding the camera in and out so it can be adjusted and a locking water resistant hatch at the side or rear. I would paint it bright yellow and reinforce the lower half to resist vehicle attack.

looking for a low cost D1 DVR
Numb-nuts replied to richardtheboffin's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Where are you, whats your budget and how long do you want to record for how many cameras? You can buy the cheapest DVR on this earth but if it's unsuitable it won't be economic. Also do you want NTSC standard or PAL standard? Some will do both, but I have been out to install lots of cameras that someone bought o ebay only to find they are a mix of PAL and NTSC. They are NOT inter compatible you either go NTSC or PAL you cant do both. -
Nor me, although it might possibly be a Discovery DVR? The following is not aimed at you but illustrates a point if it were the case. Now you see why generic machines are a minefield of technical issues, especially those some ebay entrepreneur has imported from China through Alibaba ($5 profit per unit) These guys talk to you on the phone once and all their profit has gone so they ain't interested once they got hold of your money. TOUGH LOVE...It

Fisheye or bullet camers under eave of house 8' Height
Numb-nuts replied to Fearrchair's topic in General Digital Discussion
If you want to avoid distortion, avoid fisheye lenses. apart from that, your description is about as clear as peanut butter. A camera should be high enough to avoid being vandalised but not so high that what you get is a bird's eye view of the tops of heads, unless you have a fetish for bald spots. What's all this nonsense about recommended height? min height should be at least 10 ft above the highest point a person could stand up on like ledges or flat roofs etc. Its more important to get the correct lens for the intended purpose or a Varifocal lens within which the correct size falls. Find a lens calculator online and input the distance to target and the scene width. if you don't know the sensor size of your camera assume it's 1/3rd inch. -
Newbie needs help with Samsung SDE-5002N
Numb-nuts replied to Norm!'s topic in Digital Video Recorders
Honeywell, or QVIS or Dahua (last two often the same, but not always) -
In terms of analogue cameras, it all depends on what style of camera you want. Different styles are more suitable for some situations than others. First decide what style of camera would suit your installation, then look at what features you want, and then consider which brands have given good service. The brands I prefer are several and for varied reasons. Where I have mostly indoor cameras I prefer low light indoor domes from QVIS and Concept-Pro, whereas bullet style I prefer Cop Security and again Concept Pro unless money is an issue, then QVIS are very good value. Not all customers are prepared to pay for top of the range cameras so sometimes a compromise between price and performance needs to be made. Brands like Sanyo, JVC and Samsung all do pretty good cameras throughout their range especially when using body cameras. My two favourite brands overall QVIS where price is an issue and Concept-Pro and COP where performance is more important but still there is a budget to meet. No experience to speak of with IP so can't comment Well you did ask I have never used Genie but I hear they are very good.

Good camera to catch theivs in darkness...
Numb-nuts replied to Hathol's topic in General Digital Discussion
Oh Boy I wish I could lip read lol Not sure these guys were running amok but realizing there was CCTV certainly made them reconsider their visit -
Here in the UK at least, some of the businesses we deal with have very protective network managers and they are not at all kean on anyone getting into their network. With HD SDI I can overcome that issue without losing the opportunity and don't have to become a networking guru. While the badwidth is greater than analogue, I merely need a single static IP address and an hour with the IT manager or one of their team. Bingo done and not had any distance issues just yet but all runs seem to be fine upto the 100m mark. Most have been 2MP cameras, haven't had to stretch the envelope yet with 5MP cameras but it will be interesting when I do have a few to install. It's all new territory for me (HD-SDI) as is IP but IP is higher end than the market I cater to at this stage. Training: I need to do a course before attempting a full IP system design and install, frankly I am not into running before I know how to walk properly and I aim to do things properly or not at all. I think my clients understand and appreciate that.

Good camera to catch theivs in darkness...
Numb-nuts replied to Hathol's topic in General Digital Discussion
Prevention can only be measured in some cases. Studies have shown that it does have a deterrent effect where proper signage and overtly obvious cameras are used. This however cannot be relied upon, I have had attempts at theft from my car when my huge speed-dome camera was highly visible and so was my signage. The dildo that was attempting this theft was either very confident or very stupid. All the petty criminals (out of control show-off teens) that frequent my area know about my cameras, I have seen them passing by giving resentful side glances as they pass but not daring to attempt anything as they know there were prosecutions in the early days of my system. Real criminals often don't care if cameras are present and would commit crime regardless of being seen. One Mercedes commercial dealer locally was broken into and the thieves were after the catalytic convertors on the vans in the yard. Police and the dealer also realized that it took exactly 3 mins to remove each cat convertor. Point is the CCTV was well signed and very obvious but this didn't deter these criminals. All that was gained by police was lots of clues and a picture of how this happened. Now you must be wondering, so which is it, deterrent or evidence gathering, well there is no hard and fast answer other than to say CCTV will reduced the instances of opportunity crime and can give police some leads that otherwise they may not have gained. Police are VERY adept at using footage to their advantage when seemingly insignificant occurrences can give police strong lines of inquiry. HOWEVER Prevention is still far better than cure -
Good camera to catch theivs in darkness...
Numb-nuts replied to Hathol's topic in General Digital Discussion
Just a point I'd like to make, the primary goal of any CCTV security camera is to create a DETERRENT rather than to catch anyone. Catching or gathering evidence is a solely secondary consideration. Yes the cameras has to be effective in capturing quality images as evidence, however you should also be considering how you might use the camera to deter thieves where possible. Prevention is always better than cure! -
Good luck to you, DVRs are nothing more these days than a file server and as such require a static LAN address so they can be located. DVRs are more or less a small computer with embeded software so there is no access to the OS. That's effectively all there is to analogue DVRs. All the analogue signals are digitized on board so you don't have to concern yourself about that, just understand the specifications and how that effects the performance. You probably already know about port forwarding so all is easy from here on in so enjoy it.

How to connect multiple DVR wit one monitor
Numb-nuts replied to geemagd's topic in General Digital Discussion
several questions spring to mind Are the DVR's all the same models? What size is the screen? What do you mean 'control the cameras, what type are they?
