Installers to cooperate on a job Basingstoke UK wanted
Numb-nuts replied to Numb-nuts's topic in General Digital Discussion
I am also looking for an independent installer to work with high end equipment (DM) in the Sheffield UK area Own vehicle and tools are essential in both cases. -
Guys, you get no more than you pay for generally and the CCTV market is flooded with crap that unless you have had better you'd never know the difference. If you are satisfied with it then thats all that counts INIT?

Depending on the DVR it may not be practical. Far better to download recorded video from the DVR remotely and store it remotely. I suspect from the DVR description you gave it's some sort of generic Chinese DVR without a momma (not officially imported) ad those tend not to be too feature packed although usually rather good enough for the domestic or home user. Recording remotely has too many parameters that will affect it so it's often a compromise. The second stream is the setting at which a remote recording is captured, and it then has to stream across the WWW to the remote client as it were, to be recorded. By the time all this happens (and especially at low rescource end of the market) the received data has lost some of it's information. Far better to recover captured files remotely, as already saved files that can transfer across the WWW which will more or less be identical to having been saved locally.

Focus problem. Samsung scb-2000N with sla-3580dn lens
Numb-nuts replied to C8er's topic in General Digital Discussion
As I understand it set the focus then do it again using an ND (nuetral density) filter to force the IR filter out and the iris open. If you get a good focus with the ND filter in place you can rest assured in better lighting the focus will be good. -
2 Monitors 1 DVR? Is it possible?
Numb-nuts replied to redalert's topic in General Digital Discussion
If you know the model of your Dahua could you post an image of the rear of the DVR? (NO I'm not kinky about DVR derrieres) -
Focus problem. Samsung scb-2000N with sla-3580dn lens
Numb-nuts replied to C8er's topic in General Digital Discussion
I hadn't realized you bought a used camera and lens, it all makes sense now. Thanks for this thread guys as I just recently learned about back-focus and C / CS lenses and their distances to the sensor. Although I have been installing VF DD AI lenses quite regularly I never really understood them properly. -
I swear by Contralube 770, since using it I never get called out to water corroded connections I have even used this in the low voltage connections of ornamental fish ponds. It is also recommended for CCTV This is why: Contralube A medium viscosity synthetic grease for the protection of electrical and electronic connectors and contact surfaces. Water washout resistant, including saltwater.

I have never had the opportunity you understand but I am assuming that the aim id to speed the operating system and file transfer time, otherwise what would be the point ? I would love to know where this is leading and what your aims are.

UK installers beware UK BOX SHIFTERS go ahead and get ripped off (greedy gits). I had a quotation request to supply a 16 camera system which I don't normally do. Things are a bit hard at the moment so I sent a quotation. The fraudster accepted my quote (why wouldn't they?) and sent full credit card details (which alerted my suspicion ) by email including security number and delivery address. Fortunately I do not accept credit cards as I generally take bank transfers and cheques. I took a look at these card details and noticed the idiot thief had printed it twice but the last two digits were wrong. I then decided to look at the delivery address on Google Earth, a practice I always follow if I have any suspicion and the property is a run down two up two down ( for you Americans, a hovel with two rooms upstairs and two rooms downstairs usually no bathroom) the kind of place people permanently on national assistance would live, (No offence to those that live in a 2up 2down). Finally, the telephone number given was a different area code to the delivery address when I phoned it it turned out to be a VOIP account so it could have been anywhere in the UK or overseas. I telephoned Visa to advise them of my concerns and the cards were issued through an American Bank so the Visa fraud department have taken details and are going to notify the issuing bank and cardholders of this activity and take appropriate action. I don't feel like I lost a sale as there wasn't a real sale in the first place, just an attempt to steal from me and the cardholders.

Why is it that clients always think they want covert cameras
Numb-nuts replied to Numb-nuts's topic in General Digital Discussion
That is a fair point. Get even is a common reason, so it must be that they want to actually catch someone in the act so they can feel avenged. -

Can anyone Help solve this problem? 1 camera to 2 outputs
Numb-nuts replied to pap20's topic in General Digital Discussion
You should nottry to cut corners. First go to your display with a BNC T piece 75 Ohm it will either be automatically termnated/unterminated or manually term/unterminated, it needs to be unterminated. Then you can go from the BNC T connector to the other display or input but it will have to be terminated and I'm not sure if it will be by your DVR try it first worry about it later. If you are using baluns, you should use two pairs. You need to check the video level at the final location is 1 volt Peak to peak. if not you can use a video line corrector VLC but you'll need to use an oscilloscope to check it. If you don't know how, I wouldn't worry unless your run lengths are significant and signal is poor or missing colour. After thought: By the way I am assuming your PC based DVR doesn't have a BNC video out or I'd suggest the DVR first i the chain and terminate the at the second display. -

What did he just say? Look if you can get the telemetry working trough your DVR you won't have to worry about the IP as it all uses the same port as the video I theeenk? -
SCAMMERS attempting to obtain CCTV equipment
Numb-nuts replied to Numb-nuts's topic in General Digital Discussion
as much as most of us hate the credit card companies, one thing you gotta appreciate is that there's no internal politics or jurisdictional bull$#!t when it comes to them protecting their assets. a lot of other types of companies might have just said, "oh, that's a u.s. account, you'll have to contact the u.s. branch, sorry we don't have a phone number for you...", but these guys, there's no screwing around - anywhere in the world, it's right to business. the global marketplace would be a lot nicer place to live and work if more companies operated this way. On the contrary. Visa wanted me to telephone the issuing bank in the US, eventually I spoke to Visa Fraud investigations dept and they were listening and said they would contact the card issuing bank and have them contact their card holders. It's been a week now and the fraudster has not been in touch so my suspicions were spot on. Too many things were not matching up -
You're screwed, there isn't an Mac browser that will do it not EVEN IE for Mac. You'll have to get a Windows emulation application and start again with the IE for windows, and use the plug in. I am told they run very well, but it's a lot of expense for such a small thing, shame there's no choice.

How does router make DVR connection to internet?
Numb-nuts replied to rwx's topic in Computers/Networking
Assuming your ports are open they then need to be assigned to a network device i.e. your DVR which should have a LAN IP address which is static ( if it changes the port forwarding won't know where to find it) When setting your LAN address for your DVR the router will either have a range for DHCP or will exclude any IP address in it's range that you tell it to. Of course if the LAN address is DHCP assigned then your CMS software won't know where to find your DVR if you ever power off the DVR or router. The only problem with free dydns accounts is that you probably have to re register every 30 days, it's a real pain in the ***. For a few bucks you can do one of two things open an account with NOIP.com or have your ISP provide you with a static public IP address. One other thing, check what your upload speed is, typically I find that for every four cameras I try to have a 1MBPS UPLOAD STREAM as this provides reasonably good fluid motion from a mobile phone and excellent results on a PC with CMS software. When using a CCTV Netserver UPLOAD speed is critical (almost) Your CMS will require two accounts one for use with the LAN IP address and one for WWW using your router's public IP -
Motion sensor lights vs timer fixed lighting vs IR lights
Numb-nuts replied to FlashEngineer's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
This is your best solution. Look for a true day night camera they should have a IR cut filter that cuts IR during the day and at about dusk or when lightlevels drop the cut filter slides out of the way of the sensorallowing the camera to take advantage of natural IR light and even amplify it (AGC) but if you use AGC expect a little noise in your image as it gets darker. -
I would agree with your drip loop theory. The guy simply wants to know which IR replacement board will work with his / her camera.....I theeeeeenk amigos

SCAMMERS attempting to obtain CCTV equipment
Numb-nuts replied to Numb-nuts's topic in General Digital Discussion
I sent them an email asking then to send a cheque and that I would send the goods out immediately I receive the cheque DUHHHHHHH as if I would? I was thinking of telling them that I would send the goods out cheque-on-delivery in the hope that they'd have their time wasted a bit also. I can just imagine their greedy little faces scampering off to Liverpool to a unoccupied house to take delivery. but NOBODY is THAT stupid, are they? I am only annoyed that I initially thought nothing of the order and thought Great I need this. But there never was an order not really as I said just a poor attempt to scam me. Thank goodness I don't need to accept credit cards. -
Ideally, it needs to be positioned so that no light enters the lens directly so at the front edge of the porch with the sun behind it, then there is a night light on your porch to be avoided if possible. Consider these when looking to position the camera. I mirror what the others have said. wireless is a waste of time for you, FORGET WIRELESS. there is no substitute for a good wired connection and you will need a wire for power, unless they've introduced wireless DC power without tell me

30m is nothing whatsoever you should be safe. Obviously there are all sorts of other issues but if you used a compatible 75 ohm cable or UTP and suitable baluns, 30m is well withing the distances acceptable. The video signal at the camera has a 1volt amplitude peak to peak and thereis always a sinal loss. Upto 6db is acceptable then it's time to get the signal corrected using a VLC video line corrector. A scope or some other peek measurement device will be needed as this cannot be done correctly without measurement.

There is no such thing as weather-proof. IP before two digits means Ingress protection and is a rating of how resistant to solids and moisture an enclosure is. Obviously yours wasn't but it may have been rated IP66 or 65 but the mere fact that water went in proves my point. The camera or it's outer casing may be IP rated but obviously it's not weather proof. Once water has got in it's buy a new camera time because moisture never goes away without leaving a residue and it won't be long before some other problem arises. Don't throw good money after bad.

Fixing cable to Masonry walls when masonry nails just bend
Numb-nuts posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I encountered the brick wall from hell today, barely five cable clips would fix to the mortar joints and the rest just flew off or bent. My fingers are very sore too and my snipe nose pliers are bent to hell. Anyone got any ideas about how to fix cable in this situation? I have a twinax shotgun cable and a RG6 to run together. Plug in cable tie holders are too far off the surface too be neat and they bunch the cables. I tried screwing into wall plugs but the cable clips are too small to make drilling out an option. I was thinking of using general purpose metal banding to hold the cables, forming it with pliers and nail in anchors to fix it down with, this is very time consuming and probably will look poor, anyone got a better solution I'd be grateful
