Great purchase, I WANT ONE too!

Here's what happened to one when the brakes failed: That must be what happened although it never mentioned anything about brakes.

Housing glass (provided it is glass) can be cleaned using jeweller's rouge. A rouge paste like substance that can polish out light scratches and remove traffic film and train fallout. You can also use T-Cut paste or Farelca rubbing compound using loads of soapy water. Jewellers rouge can be bought at watch repairer's suppliers. I think there are some sellers on ebay too. I do like the idea of the peelable screen protectors, sound very simple and as we all know it's the simple ideas that are very often the best ones.

Shileding/Covering BNC connections in outside environment...
Numb-nuts replied to Syz's topic in General Digital Discussion
I suppose you could use self amalgamating tape at a pinch. I used to use it to seal N Type coaxial plugs at the antenna base of radio masts and repeater stations. After winding it on, the rubber amalgamates into a single piece, which stretches to fit and after curing is totally waterproof. Fort CCTV connections it is better practice to use weatherproof boxes as I explained they serve a double purpose. Using JBs in combination with the dielectric grease would be my bets guess in arctic conditions. There may even be some JBs designed for arctic conditions but this is somethin you will have to find out yourself as I haven't ever had that requirement. -
Shileding/Covering BNC connections in outside environment...
Numb-nuts replied to Syz's topic in General Digital Discussion
You Americans and Canadians can get ANYTHING. Here in the UK finding the right product id often a real struggle. Even internet searches result in importing what I need. A case in point is my woodworking. Wood Router accessories are plentiful in the US and here they are rather limited. You Americans and Canadians can get ANYTHING. -
I have to say that the standard of CCTV work I have experienced in the UK is very good in the main. I have learned a bit from remedial works, I have seen the way other's do things and in some cases I have changed the way I do things because I have seen a better way of doing something.

Shileding/Covering BNC connections in outside environment...
Numb-nuts replied to Syz's topic in General Digital Discussion
I think you are referring to outdoor cameras with their connections at the end of a lead. I always mont a weather resistant junction box to the side of the camera or hide it in the eaves if thats an option. I feed the cable into the JB and that acts as a secure place for the connections to be hidden and as a service access point too. Junction boxes are rated against the ingress of dust and water (in that order), you require IP65 or greater. The first digit after the IP example IP65 rates the resistance to dust or solid materials, and the second digit rates resistance to water. For heavt winter where snow is likely to sit on the junction box I would look for IP68 tating and I have no doubt they will be readily available in Canada. -
That puts a new spin on the term "twisted pair" What a nice welcoming sign too.

I just bought some business cards from Vistaprint in the UK. From the day they comfirmed my order, I was getting huge amounts of email promotions from them. I mean I don't get that many emails from my best friend. I hadn't realized that ordering from them was like getting married to them. I have managed to stop their emails finally but what a damnable cheek, it's as if they believe my ordering from them once, made me their property to be exploited forever. If anyone from Vistaprint is reading this, you've actually put me off ever doing business with you in the future because of the horrendous time I had getting the emails to stop, I'm never going to risk that again. Thats a shame because the products are rather good.

I would now order the full design and print run in a local independant as digital printing has increased the posibilities and driven the price down. You could try and broker a deal with locals businesses as all they want is to keep their machines running day and night. Don't forget to agree a reprint price when you negotiate. Next time I will be having a full set properly designed letterhead, cards, complement slips, payment advice slips, but for now I just need to recover from my bad experience with Vistaprint.

where to buy Power Supplies?
Numb-nuts replied to SectorSecurity's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
These ones usually attach to the camera's power-in-lead. The lead from thee power supply is usually terminated with a suitable mating plug. These are 2.1 x 5.5 mm plugs/jacks. Of course enclose in a junction box against weather -
Yes I did, but frankly that on it's own would have been reasonably acceptable. There's a Vistaprint Banner above your post now actually which proves they never leave you alone. I wonder how many would bother if they knew what they were letting themselves in for? I didn't know they were selling in the USA also. What attracted me was online design and a price of about £5.00 for 250 but after you've added all the bits it's more like £50.00 for 500 cards but to be fair thats a still a good price. I needed cards urgently as I had been asked for cards several times in the last couple months and I am trying to build my CCTV work up a bit. My whole experience with them has been ruined by their over zealous marketing efforts.

You should nominate that crook for the Americas Dumbest Criminals show.

I agree it is a professional installation he needs, but as he stated He doesn't want to pay for an engineer. CCTV is not a PLUG N PLAY technology. You get what you pay for.

What we think the future will be of little significance in this industry, what counts is where innovation takes us. I can't see analogue dying a death just yet and feel it will be around for a long time to come despite it's limitations. Only necessity, which is the mother of invention, can drive the industry forward.

What is your skill-set, electrician, builder, computers? By the way, is that Murphy of Murphy's CCTV and Legal Services?

Looking for a good box camera and lens combo
Numb-nuts replied to woltert1's topic in Security Cameras
You won't go far wrong with the CNB mona lisa range. They are highly thought of on this forum. Value for money, I have heard they are spot on. I don't use them purely because my suppliers don't distribute them. So far as lenses go, once you have decided on your lens requirements, it's a question of finding an appropriate lens of a similar quality to your camera. You wouldn't put low octane fuel into your Ferrari, now would you? ( now everyone thinks you have a Ferrari ) Using a cheaper lens with a lower spec camera would do little harm to the end result, but selecting an excellent camera and a cheap Chinese ebay lens might not give the performance your camera is capable of. -
Good Luck in your research

That sounds like a job for a professional CCTV Engineer.

"Ghost orbs" what are they really?

Spider's Webs. -
Nothing too wrong with that cable and the price seems very good. I imagine you know what your application is and that RG59B/U is suitable fir it. RG59B/U is suitable for CCTV signals. All that other stuff is ebay waffle. the cable is not rubbish.

I would imagine your local police might be the best place to get free legal advice on that because they will know what ethey can and can't use. You haven't even says where you live, as the law is going to be different in different countries, different states etc. I think you may be on the right track that there is no expectation of privacy in a public place. There are other human rights legislations also that you might fall foul of so don't forget to consider that. I would think that if you can show you were monitoring the public area and not a particular person in public, then you might have a reasonable expectation of not breaching a person's human rights but if for example that area is a children's play area where parents and children are you, might find you have to justify that. Those are just my thoughts but I am no legal eagle.

Question about 24V Power Supply
Numb-nuts replied to troy6363's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
The inside of the housing will often have a distribution board in it through which you will connect the 24V input, the camera and the heater. There will also be a fuse in the distribution board. Just give it a little thought before you start and you'll find it very easy. Good luck.... -
Looking for a good box camera and lens combo
Numb-nuts replied to woltert1's topic in Security Cameras
You are correct about using separate IR lighting. Another technique that I haven't seen used in a while for obtaining a grater depth-of-field was to use a larger format lens. The image is taken from the flatter part of the lens and not the outer part where more distortion occurs. This is no longer common practice because of the development of aspherical lenses. A simple principle to remember is that the more light that hits the sensor, the better the resulting image will be. It is NOT advisable to do the opposite and and use a smaller format lens as this could result in a port-hole-effect and lets less light hit the sensor, resulting in poor images in anything less than perfect light conditions. Gotta go, phone's ringing might be work. -
Here is a RARE example of a mini Body Camera with a RCA video output It's a Watec 902H Fortunately, such outputs are rare and usually BNC
