Advantage and Disadvantage or PoE in a CCTV system?
Numb-nuts replied to 1337.807's topic in System Design
This is a fascinating thread! Hard to follow when you have no experience of POe, but nevertheless quite fascinating. So would you avoid POe when a camera needs weather protection in a colder climate like the UK, where a heater (and Fan) is essential to keep the housing from fogging up at the very least. If you did have to run a heater, would you choose another camera with independent PSU for outdoors or could you use POe camera without too much extra work? Perhaps a higher rated POe switch for outdoor application? What voltage requiremant do these cameras have is it the usual 12v DC or 24 v AC or higher? I read something about 54 V but wasn't clear on the point made. Can someone diagram how this works please or point me to a page that shows the setup? Thanks so much. -
Pickpocket passing wallet to accomplice
Numb-nuts replied to Numb-nuts's topic in General Digital Discussion
No it was on a city center CCTV camera in Central London (run by Westminster Council) and in direct contact with police teams from West End Central police station. You can find it on you tube but it's a long tedious video as you spend most of the time waiting for the action. Search Youtube for "Pickpocket". -
me think you site velly expensive cookie. Too expensive even for clistmas plesent. Prease excuse sperring.

Very enlightening. I always use google maps when planninglong cable runs which are partially supported by steel rope, or wireless transmitter receiver setups, this takes that process two steps further. And yes I am using a Mac. Thanks for linking to that I'm going to try that when planning a job.

If you only have one cable gland I would get at least one more rather than silicone the hole, they are cheap. You can get a grommet to close the other hole or glue some aluminium or plastic inside and silicone it from outside. Ref the divider,I wouldn't run your cables over the thin end of a piece of metal in case it chafes the insulation. It may have been to hold a connector strip? Don't worry about that piece it's unlikely to play a crucial role in the housing. Did you buy it cheap or something? I was surprised that you are prepared to accept it has bits missing. Personally, I don't like plastic housings, but I have to admit those I have seen installed seem to do the job they are intended to do and don't suffer paint flaking like metal housings. They do discolour badly though.

Mine is within a under-stair cupboard, locked in a purpose made lock box. so even if it's found, it cannot easily be destroyed, It's fixed with wall anchors to the wall. If it is found they can destroy the cables cut them do whatever they want but the footage will still be there to show who was in my home. It;s very unlikely though I have very nosey neighbours.

Those are NOT vent holes, they are for cable glands so the cables can enter the housing and be sealed against water entering. The Cable glands will be in the box and if they are not then contact the place you bought the housing as they are essential. I always fit both but sometimes use just one, I then fill the other one with silicone to seal it. I am not sure what the other hole is for but don't leave it unsealed as moisture and insect life will get in. They look like this

Your best way to get on top of this is to phone them. That is a generic Chinese type PTZ that many distributors import. Anyway, they will know it better than anyone here without a brand name or a operation manual. I looked on the website to see if I could see one but they don't publish it there.

I discovered this story about a pensioner that decided to do something to protect his community and put up his own CCTV cameras. Now his landlords want him to remove them. Link to the story, He made the mistake of NOT getting their permission first. BIG MISTAKE! Anyone got any thoughts on the story My main thought having seen the picture is hasn't he got any ladders?

CCTV cameras are fun on halloween too!

Now THAT is serious festival stuff. Are you of the wicker faith? If you lived in my neighborhood, not one of those figures would be left standing within an hour or two of darkness falling. The local children and youths would destroy all your work (shame on them) . I think the video is great, the pictures of your front yard are really fun and it actiully looks like a scene from a Hammer House of Horror movie. I fully take the point you made a bit of fun, the lighter side of CCTV . I really like watching unusual occurrences on the TV "Caught on camera" does anyone also enjoy that? It's not just thieves and criminals but all sorts of amazing events. Yeah I know it's not just CCTV either. -

That's interesting, is there an explanation for that? -

There are just too many possibilities for legislation to cover all contingencies, therefore unless you place a complete ban on all camcorders and cameras you cannot stop recording of images. While it remains legal to record video in public, you cannot use it to harass someone by following them about with a CCTV as that would be a breach of their civil rights (In a public place) and would be covered under harassment legislation. Unless you could show you had a reasonable suspicion. So while it remains legal to record anywhere there are other legislations that might affect the way you record and where you can record, in other words the way you use the recording device. I think that the SIA license for CCTV operators deals with scheme objectives and that operatives must consider the scheme objectives when operating the equipment. So it would be a breach of the scheme objectives to say follow only women in mini skirts walking when the objective is to observe suspicious activity within a retail shop. I would imagine that would be seen as a breach and considered as misconduct. There are SIA licenced peopleon the forum that may be able to shed more light on this subject which I haven't any formal knowledge of. PS If you took someone's camera away from them to remove an image of you, you could be getting into the ralms of assault and criminal damage. Not a good idea. -

So far as I am aware, there is no law in the UK against recording in public with or without permission. You may not film on private property without permission very often. If that statement is wrong please tell me under which legislation. If what you said was right, then YouTube would have to ask you for the written permission of everyone in the video before they could allow you to post it. That just wouldn't work. However, you cannot post something that invades someone's privacy by filming on private property or in a place where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy such as a public toilet or a private shop changing room. -
Security Camera feud sparks privacy questions
Numb-nuts replied to nDAlk90's topic in Security Cameras
There does seem to be a common thread there doesn't there? Some people are strange, why would you want to alienate your neighbours by doing such a thing? When I installed my system I took into account any neighbours that might be concerned and went out of my way to assure them there was no privacy issues. I used privacy screens where I didn't need to view and was open and friendly about it. To date I have only had one single complaint and that did not hold water, it was a guy that is out of my range and just wanted to make a point, I soon put him in his place, but politely. My neighbours are happy with my system as anti-social crimes have diminished considerably in my street since I've had it, (not 100%). Things like this fuel the fire that CCTV use is somehow motivated by sinister intentions. I am not prepared to upset my neighbours, so I am open and friendly and consider their comments and concerns carefully. -
That looks like a junction box. It could conceivably have a camera inside but why would he want to do that when the thing is so blatantly obvious?
-
I was trying to simplify things for the guy Rory. Too much information can confuse. This guy justs wants to complete one job, not make a career of it. He is unlikely to have a RG59 crimping tool so baluns are the way to go, since he is doing one job.

Try the link now for the 4 channel model. I changed it to the four channel model.

A few trees are nicer to look at and no city council permissions need to be sought.
