Installing new Cable tricks in attic
Numb-nuts replied to woltert1's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I am not sure you are following wolter. Your would work the rods around the insulation vertically. Any insulation you displace is bound to be above the eaves so it won't significantly affect your insulation (I hope not) and feeding the rods in the direction of a more accessible area of the roofspace such as the area around the attic hatch, you need not disturb the insulation further as the cable rests on top of it. Slternatively yo could drill a hole through the sidings and vapour barrier into the upstairs room. It's very haphazard though and you have to be really acuulate. I hate breaching a vapour barrier unless I have access to the hole to stop it up with silicone ut even then.... it's not great. Alternative suggestion What about feeding the cable under the sidings along the eaves line until you reach another spot that is more accesible? It will be a longer run but it can sit under the sidings on top of the fixings for the second row. Assuming you have aluminum or plastic sidings. -

Sorry, you guys have lost me a long way back. Don't bother to explain, my brain hurts. -
Yes so would I Adam, I just ccouldn't find the videos I was referring to. What happens is that the camera starts tracking one guy and it would be good if it continued, Unfortunately he stops and others start moving across the screen and the camera follows them and changes about four of five times in the space of a couple of minutes. Another was the same thing except it was a truck, which then drove and parked in a car park and other vehicles took the camera elswhere as if they were playing with the cameras. Sorry i didn't post any links guys, I thought I'd have no trouble finding them, but I did. Problem is, in such situations, how is the camera to know who to follow? Unless there is operator intervention to tell the camera which object / person to follow ? In a crowd situation this could enhance considerably the operator's efficientcy, but there is no substitute for a live operator at the keyboard. These are just my thoughts, I haven't really the experience to know what can be achieved with Auto-Tracking. Perhaps someone that has a lot of experience in using or setting up Auto-Tracking could comment.

Thats also sometimes an issue where PVC tape comes in handy you could also use PTFE or plumber's take on the threads -
Installing new Cable tricks in attic

I have a wondeful set of wiring rods that screw together and come supplied in a conveniient tube I drilled a hole at a suitable place in the eves close to the wall. After that I poked a rod through the hole and went into the loft space with a torch to locate the place where the rod passed through. The idea is to know where and in which direction to pass the rods with cable attached. I then returned together ladder, added a couple rods and taped the cable to the end feeding the rods in an approximate direction into the roof space. It works better if there are two of you because of the insulation snagging and the direction with someone the re to guide you. Leave lots of slack in the roof space it cost very little in comparison with re running the cable in the future. These rods are great for all kinds od wiring jobs and pay you back very quickly There are some clever ones with magnetic ends but they are unnecessarily expensive. My rods cost me about £10 or about $17 incl tax. I don't mean to suggest my way is the best but it did work for me. I have seen a method which uses a 3m lenth of pVC conduit but I thought it to restrictive. The flexible tape is also a method I've seen used by skilled electricians with great success. Don't forget to have some good stretchy PVC tape handy These are the rods I use a lot. Sorry about the tree -
In my limited experience, auto tracking is different with various brands. Some are real rubbish, some are a nuisance and some are getting close to useful. Personally I have never come across a specific auto tracking dome that was good for any realistic purpose. I believe it to have very limited potential. I don't know what others with more experience think about this?

Why do we bother?

Similar to our saying in manchester It doesn't matter what you drive, someone will steal it eventually!

its also parked on the wrong side of the road, and on a straight line I would say they can park where the hell they like without worrying, who is gonna give em ticket? Anyway the lines are poorly maintained and it has to be a "continuous yellow line" to be enforceable.

Thats no problem just invert the picture and it'll be on the other side I'd absolutely refuse point blank to operate CCTV from one of those things. Allow me a little "street cred"

Power adapter for cameras
Numb-nuts replied to shockwave199's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Whenever I get a new camera with PSU supplied, with a few exceptions, it goes into a box in the garage to be sold at the next garage sale or boot fair I attend. I keep a few to use in emergencies usually the higher outputs and the 24V AC ones. They prove very popular sellers at such sales. I prefer to buy a branded trustworthy distribution box every-time. They are not always reliable but I like to buy the ones when I know who manufactured it the names escape me at this moment, but I know the names and who supplies them. Where they come from is usually irrelevant so if I saw them on ebay (Fat chance) I might buy a few, but a lot of ebay stuff is there simply because it's rubbish. I now prefer to buy from my suppliers in the UK who are reasonably priced and have a great attitude. There is a lot to be said for good customer relations and good attitude. -
Why don't you send a copy of this photo to RS Components or Farnell electronics. Both these companies have helped me identify connectors from a photo in the past. That looks similar to an AMP military style connector I used to use for two way radio transmitters, but it's not the same series.

Adam, after seeing the size of those PA horns, that alone would be enough to scare the pants off the criminals never mind the sound that comes out of them. Good on you feller! What sort of alarm sound will come out of them? Voice, or siren oreven a Freight Train perhaps?

nah i was serious id just call them tugs and punks Duh Same ting guy ! Crims being short for criminals, but includes wrong doers, miscreants bums and generally any undesireables. OR anyone you wouldn't like roaming your neighbourhood. Well maybe not police....

Bureacratic W@nk@rs. One good strong wind and it would probably topple over. Still someone is making a fortune creating these monstrocities. These cars are the LATEST craze among local authorities and I learned that my local council have just bought one for parking enforcement, the first in the NW region. If one of these turned up in my neighbourhood the crims would laugh their socks off.

Thats a bummer, well thats the price we pay for (dare I say it) a superior computing platform.(cringing) Actually not since OS X arrived has it been what it once was, the only improvement is no more SCSI just USB. Certainly let you know if I find anything, but don't hold your breath waiting for one. -
I am not keen when CCTV is used for parking enforcement and not monitored at night as a crime prevention tactic. To me this is using CCTV against the community and not to benefit it. One example of this is using the tax payer's money to buy these Smart Car parking enforcement CCTV units to benefit local government purse and no other reason. These units could easily be used to monitor civil disobedience at events, but local government say no that is the job of police and we cannot use these vehicles as the operative is at risk from rioters.

Franchises are the fastest way to get into an industry you know little about and they support you in every aspect of running that business, product support and source and more importantly training and marketing support etc. The whole package. The advantage is that you can be up and running in very little time. There may be security Franchises in the USA are there any in the UK, I have only seen one and they didn't impress me at all. The one I saw didn't offer system survey and planning as part of their package, which would be a crucial element for a 'freshman'. Former Snap On tools man here.... Are you in the UK? -
If both cameras eventually suffered the same fault then something in your wiring is wrong and you did say you replaced the wiring with cat5 so my question is what is your voltage at the point of delivery and are you still using the same power supply? Is the Camera an Xvision XSD27ZS by any remote chance? I only ask since you mention the Xvision DVR.

Hello Ken welcome. let us know where in the UK you are.I am in Manchester well Bolton actually. Why did you install CCTV at your home? Are you just enthusiastic about technology or do you have something you want to protect against, or would you rather not say? I installed it at home because of the ASB in my area, the underclass hoodie type teens putting stuff through my letterbox, throwing eggs, bottles potatoes light bulbs and stones, ringing my doorbell, fighting and loitering in the alley and street, boozing you name it they did it. It has virtually disappeared from the area now. Sadly the problem is someone else's now. CCTV did not stop it but made this street a less attractive proposition when Police arrive with ten minutes pour out their booze on the ground, sometimes make arrests, search the teens take their details etc. I have a combination of very visible (overt) and hidden (covert) cameras The overt cameras say "come and have a go if you thing you're 'ard enough" and the covert says OKAY so CCTV doesn't put you off, lets see if a visit from the law does? Anyway, here you'll learn to overcome all sorts of problems with your system. Upgrade if you like but first try and do what you can with what you already have. That way you will identify where you can do better Once again Welcome.
