This is just for the newcomers and those DIYer's that just want to know more. Baluns what are they? They are transformer devices that change the impedance at both of a cable to allow a video signal to travel along it which is fast, convenient and extra economic over long runs. Okay how to use these devices and cat5 cable Couple of things to note, he is using brick Baluns notice how tight they are when you view them at the back of a DVR. Unless you have microscopic fingers, I suggest "Pigtail baluns" i.e. the BNC is in a pigtail wire. Whichever pair you use to connect the baluns, I usually use the solid colour to connect to the positive terminal of the baluns at either end. When I use Cat5 cable for various jobs I have devised my own convention as to colour coding always using the solid colour as the +ve. Cat5 cabe is a loosely speaking is 4 pairs of unshieded twisted pairs (UTP) of 24AWG solid (or sometimes stranded) wires. It's those twists in the pair of conductors that allow signals to travel further along the cable by reducing energy loss in magnetic fields. Hi Guys and Gals, (mustn't forget the gals) I have seen some very sloppy installations of home user, even some professionals CCTV Camera installations. Here are some tips for a successful CCTV installation in a home environment. Decide where you want ti site your cameras and DVR. Consider how you will run the cable from each and if you have the means to power all your cameras. If you have only a single socket near the DVR, you may wish to install a six point socket (extension). You can install a single power source on the wall behind your DVR so all your cables are run to the same place but if you have PSUs supplied with your cameras you may wish to use those. When you site your cameras, they should be high enough off the ground so that they are at least 10ft above the highest point an intruder could stand on. So if the is a fence adjacent to the wall, at least 10 ft above the fence. Consider how you will route the cable(s) to the DVR. It is best if you can manage to hide as much of the cables as possible. Plan a route that will have as few turns and bends in the cable as you can manage, this will ultimately reduce the risk of a failed cable. Turns in copper cables cannot be made at 90 deg. The rule of thumb here is a turn diameter of 10 times the cable thickness so for a 6 mm cable the turn radius should be just over 2 1/2 inches. If you want to do a really pro job, you can run cables in plastic conduit to protect then but for home users this isn't really necessary unless you live in a particularly harsh climate or rough neighborhood, Before climbing ladders to place the cameras, I always make a 1/4" plywood template ot the wall facing part of the bracket and I drill the holes too. Now I can climb the ladder with just the template, a marker pen and a small spirit level. If you are fixing to brickwork, mark the uppermost holes for the bracket along the centerline of the brick as this will give the best hold. Mark a horizontal line along the centerline of the brick and place your template to align the uppermost holes on that line. Next you can drill your holes and plug them with the strongest plugs you have. Make sure the holes are deep enough for your screws. Next take the camera up and start with uppermost screws first. After completion, you can mark up for a junction box. I always drill the mortar joint as its easier and only holding a plastic or metal box. I always measure three fingers from the bracket to the edge of the box. Only God knows what I would do if I cut my three fingers off oone day? I'd be lost If using a varifocal camera while you are up there, take a tape measure and measure to the point on the ground where you want to focus. Now set up a target to focus on the ground and set the focus while on the ground. This should work for you but may soetimes need a bit of tweaking. It's cheaoer than investing a couple of hundred on a test monitor you will only use once (with any luck) I have not fixed to a wooden frame house so I am not sure of good practice there but perhaps one of or American friends can give some valuable info here. A word of caution when fixing the cable to the wall. If you are using masonry nails or nailed clips to secure the cable, be very sure you don't hammer the cable. This is often a fatal error. I prefer to drill smal plugs and use no 6 screws and an electric screwdriver to fix the clips. Takes more time but it's time well invested. When fixing to metal buildings, I always run a separate earth cable ( black automotive cable) and secure it to my distibution box to reduce the risk of ground loops. This has to do with the differing potential to earth ina circuit id I remember, but who cares at the moment right? I have always said that one day I would get some of that anti spider spray to reduce the spiders webbs apearing on my screen, I naever have yet but it's something worth considering. Finally, have a nice cup of tea or coffee and admire your work. A typical IP65 rated box ( Please note IP rating has nothing to do with IP Cameras) PS This brand of box is my favourite and in the UK I get them from Toolstaion who have a huge range of these and at a trade price.

To ensure your DVR is in the correct range, unreserve the DHCP reservation. Now in the DVR switch on DGHCP save and reboot. Now open your network settings switch off the DHCP switch to staic and assign a device id (the last set of 3 digits in the IP address, and reboot. Check your router cab see the DVR with the IP address you allocated, and now you can reserve the new IP address. Now do your port forwarding pointing to your dVR nut if the ports are not set in the DVR then tand tru canyouseeme.com If these port numbers aren't set in the DVR no request will report as open. Start with port 80 which should be your HTTP port but it might be a different number. Its doesn't have to be 80 because where DVRs co exist you can only open port 80 for one device, a second one would need a separate port number, say 81 , 82 etc etc. The clue is in the site name canyouseeme?

My Dewalt Cordless Driver Drill. 4Ah Batteries. Heaps of grunt and runtime. Gets used for everything. We have the 14.4v with 2 x 4AH Li Ion batteries, yes they are a great time and effort saver, still have to use the Makita SDS from time to time but our Dewalt gets a LOT of use. The batteries tend to last all week which is great. We have a policy of selling them on and replacing them before they start to deteriorate so ours will be going soon. It's about 3 years old. There was a LOT of vertical space unused so I created a raised floor at the back doors of the van, now we can get the drills out at anytime very quickly and our tool bags are easily accessible too This wouldn't work very well without a side door to access the loading area too. I have heard from a LOT of people that FESTO drills are great and at the price they should be, they are just way out of our price range

The other day I thought I'd lost my favorite screwdriver a 3mm slotted VDE screwdriver that I use for everything and a day never goes by without me using it. The thought that I might have mislaid my screwdriver started me panicking and I suddenly started to check my other tools to make sure they were all there. I did find my screwdriver eventually but I know they are just a few pounds to replace but it's not the issue. Where I HAVE lost tools and replaced them even using the replacement is a constant reminder that I feel sick about thinking where is that tool. If I'm honest I posses very few tools that I don't just love using, to me they are not just tools but loyal friends There are other tools I feel the same about, my dads old Stanley Knife (irreplaceable) my jelly crimp pliers, my electrical scissors What is the single most treasured item in your toolkit?

Dont expect remote client software to be as high resolution as you can view diect from the DVR it's marginally worse and it will depend on your second stream settings if indeed you use sub stream for remote.

Buying direct from China don't expect any support and warranty, experience tells me that sending stuff back to China noy only will it take a long time but you may never see it again. Buy from a local trade supplier and then you can expect after sales support. After sales costs money and in my experience you actually save a LOT of frustration and money in the long term. I have a PTZ camera here and the instructions a completely in CHINESE. I bought it here from a UK importer who were able to provide me a manual in Chinglish (not velly good Engrish)

Do you mean gDMSS ? did it use port 7000? That is probably not going to work with XMeye' Whats wrong with gDMSS its a great app? My Clients who have Apollo or Dahua DVRs love it. Thats the way I was taught to do it Tony. I think what ahppened here is the guy got a new router perhaps a different brand and the IP range changed and his DVR didn't pick it up. Are you still working at the same place? (no names mentioned)
