First built Pc for DVR....got one problem with hard drive
Rene replied to mitbug2's topic in Computers/Networking
Honestly, 1- Installed card on PCI slot. 2- Inserted CD-ROM with Geo software. 3- Selected which options I wanted (don't remember what I selected, but it was obvious). 4- Geo installation completed. To be truthful it was so simple I do not remember the details, but it worked right of the bat. It did take a bit more to learn all of the options as I am not CCTV knowledgeable, but they did make sense. I did go back and followed a great guideline that Rory wrote about how to optimize XP such as removing services, and optimizing resources that you should also follow. Rene -

Mitbug2, Glad I could be of help, I am also a newbie with CCTV, but work with computers. BTW I am using Geovision too, and I am very happy with it. CCTVcams, SATA drives each have a data cable to the motherboard/controller, as they are not daisy chained like in the old PATA (parallel), and depending on which connector you plug the drive into they will become the equivalent of primary/seconday master or slave. You don't need to set any jumpers with SATA drives. If Windows saw your second drive and assigned a drive letter to it, you are ready to go. Rene -

You need to go to Disk Management and define and format your 320GB HD. (Control Panel - Administrative tools - computer management -disk management). You will find an unallocated HD, you have to create a basic or dynamic drive and then format the drive. I think you can continue from here. Rene -
Sumo, Thank you for the information. I decided after reading your post to convert to Version 8 last night and it went very smooth. Did the drivers first, as it does loads new firmware on the 1480 board, and then installed the new V8 software which updated my configuration. So far everything OK, will play with the new features later. Rene

Is there anyone using or have attempted to use V8.0 besides Jasper? If so, what is your experience with V8.0. I am waiting for others to try it before I do and mess up a good working system! Rene

Thank you for the manual. Rene

LinkSys WRT54G Router Setup - Can't Access Internet - Flakey
Rene replied to Jasper's topic in Computers/Networking
Most DSL uses PPPOE and the maximum MTU has to be 1492 as PPPOE appends 8 bytes to the message. You may also want to try allowing fragmented packets thru if the Linksys allows them. Rene -
FAT32 vs NTFS for Geovision Data drive
Rene posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Should I use FAT32 or NTFS on a RAID-0 drive used for Geovision data only?. I am looking for reliability and performance. The OS (XP Pro) and Geovision will be running from a RAID-1 drive formatted with NTFS. I am bringing up the subject as I saw a recommendation of using FAT32 for Geovision. What are you using? Rene -
FAT32 vs NTFS for Geovision Data drive
Rene replied to Rene's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I will be using 2 - 300 GB Sata Hard drives to as follows: Creating a logical raid-1 drive of about 12 GB for the operating system and Geovision programs, and then the remainder of the two drives (about 288 GB each), either used as 2 separate drives for GV data or as one logical raid-0 drive of about 576 GB, again for GV data. I myself would have never thought of using FAT32, but since I read it on a Geovision reseller "FAQ's and Tips" and they said it was recommended by Geovision, but who knows for what version. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Rene -
Base for Panasonic dome WV-CW474S and CW-474AS identical ?
Rene replied to Rene's topic in Security Cameras
For anyone who might be interested, The bases are the same, the paint of the 474AS is a bit more glossy, but the same color. Rene -
Good Morning, I Need to replace a Panasonic CW474S with a CW-474AS, and do not want to replace the base (20 feet above ground). Does anybody know for sure if the bases are identical (interchangeable) between the 2 cameras ? Thanks. Rene

First, sorry for the newbie type question. Where is the best place to purchase a new Geovision 1240 - 16 ports card, with the 7.05 software since 8.0 has not been released yet. Also, will I be able to update to 8.0 once its release since it is expected to be released this month? I am looking for the best price, and the software upgrade support. Another question, are the video inputs protected against surges caused by lightning? or do I need to install some sort of surge suppressor on the rg59? Thanks in advance. Rene

Good Reliable Reasonable Priced Distributor in Miami, FL
Rene posted a topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hi, I am new on this site, so please bear with me if I do not follow the proper protocol. I need to purchase a 9 channel DVR and approximately 6 cameras to use in my house. I work out of my house with computers, and many times have equipment belonging to my clients that I need to protect. I have looked into reasonably priced equipment and following the suggestions have decided to go for either Bosh Divar, Mitsubishi SC-TL910 (looks real good) or maybe the Sanyo, as I think the Vitek or GE will cost a lot more. Have not even started addressing the cameras issues. My question can I obtained the equipment locally in Miami (Maybe Rory can help me), and I not in the CCTV nor Alarm business, but have a friend that buys from Silmar, but the have a somewhat limited selection of DVRs. Any suggestions where I could go to obtain the equipment. Thank you in advance. -
