  1. Does plugging in a poe powered Ethernet cable into a non poe device is a big no-no? I'm wondering if I fried anything by doing this to my axis camera or there is a safety mechanism that detects this sort carelessness.
  2. What differences does ntsc or pal ip camera make as I thought this was only an issue for analog cameras? I have a chance to buy some dahua pal camera but what problems will I run into? Do dahua nvr's have pal and ntsc system?
  3. Can anyone upload, post or send me a picture of the internal board. I want to know if the one I am about to get is genuine or not and compare your pics to the actual one I want to buy. Specifically the 8ch with entry level with hdmi out. Are there fake dahua dvr's out there? these are some of the brand name/model I am specifically looking for pictures. Qvis Zeus 8 or Dahua 0804LE-A
  4. Need help guys. I successfully upgraded to latest firmware for the acm-1231 through the ip utility software. I was in the middle of upgrading my second acm-1231, seeing that more than 15 minute passed I clicked on the link that states the ip number of the camera to pop the browser to view the camera all the while the status says (firmware upgrading in progress) *Why did I click on it? Well the first camera status hung at "firmware upgrading in progress" for like 20 minutes so I thought it hung. When I clicked on the ip link it took me to the video screen so. I assumed this would happen with the second camera but this happened. And its said splash screen of the camera said "Error! it is in progress of upgrading firmware now" Then I took a look at the ip utility status and now says "Upgrade failed" did me clicking on the ip address to view the camera interrupt it? and if so I am sure I screwed up the firmware, now every time I log into the camera ip I see the same screen "Error! it is in progress of upgrading firmware now" everytime. I havent disconnected the power yet as I was afraid I might lose all contact to the camera. Maybe in doing so it would hopefully reset back to the old firmware? Any solutions or did I brick the camera?
  5. The axis 214 is rated at 11-14v @ 14watt max and the axis 215 is rated at 12v @ 14.5 max Will poe injector/splitter be able to power the camera?
  6. Whats the difference between axis 232d and 232d+ other than the 232d being discontinued what does the + PLUS add to its list of features?
  7. When remotely viewing my camera from another location and using the 2way audio feature I cant get rid of repeating of my voice. Is there a setting I have to enable to cancel the echo? I am using the built in mic on my axis 210a and p1344. Is my line out speakers too close to the camera?
  8. Any axis expert know what this is used for on the axis 215 ptz? It looks like a back box used to install on hard ceiling so I can hid the wires? Or is it already installed inside the axis 215 as part of the rear mounting bracket?
  9. Thx soundy, so its possible but really depends on my splitter's specs. DWL-P200 Power over Ethernet (PoE) Adapter Kit Terminal Unit Output: 5V DC, 2.5A or 12V DC, 1A I guess 1 Amp is the max out put, anyone know how to calculate if the wattage of 14.5 over the 1 amp value?
  10. I currently have the 233d which has a pan speed of 450/s Not that pan speed is important in my application, but I am wondering how does a 215 with 180/sec compare? Will it seem like its crawling? Also are the speeds comparable to other Manufacturer like pelco, sony, bosch, panasonics etc? As axis's fastest camera being 450 seems kinda fast. Maybe there are faster ones? According to AXIS website's datasheet. 214 = 100 degrees/sec 215 = 180 degrees/sec 232+ = 360 degrees/sec Q60xx= 450 (doesnt say the word "pan speed" but I am assuming it is) 233d = 450 (doesnt say the word "pan speed" but I am assuming it is) p5532 = 300 (doesnt say the word "pan speed" but I am assuming it is)
  11. Having a difficult time keeping the thin cat5e power line snugged to the power port of my 24vac cameras. I tried soldering the ends so as to make it thicker so the camera's power port can give it a tighter grip. Are there any other solutions or type of connectors I can put on the thin cat5e wires? Also is there any connectors I can use on baluns? I'm using the screw-type terminals on the gem baluns (BLN-STPT2 Passive/Passive)
  12. Yes i plugged in the 12v power supply it came with and did the whole resetting procedure correctly. I also used the axis IP utility program to find the dhcp IP, is this correct? Only the PWR and STAT lights stay on but nothing from NET maybe just a real quick one time blink in the beginning but nothing after that. Axis repair center is asking me to send it to them for estimate on repair. Any suggestions?
  13. It was on a 215 ptz axis camera. Well it never really worked to begin with. I use trendnet"'s poe switches that is 8 port of which 4 are poe so sometimes its not hard to mix up the two sets. I dont think I ever plugged it in but was wondering why the "NET" led never lights up anymore just incase I did. The camera turns on and swivels around but I cant get it to connect to the network so I am suspecting something internal like the network port is having issues. Anyone know if this is hard to repair?
  14. Why does arecont offer compact series? Is it so that it can fit into smaller dome enclosure/housing? Are their any disadvantages to it being compact, like functionality, image quality or features compared to the regular size? I'm guessing to reduce the size they must have downgraded it some how or not?
  15. In what ways is the mjpeg version useless?
  16. Currently I have 4 CNB DFL-20S indoor camera. I purchased a $170 4ch dvr from ebay. Everything hooked up and runs like a champ and not that I can compare to higher end DVR but the image looks great. My questions is, if I were to purchase a quality brand name dvr like AVerDiGi EH1004H-4 Nano, how much better would the image quality be? Is it marginal differences or will I be wowed? If marginally different then would I need to step up to a DVR costing in the $600-$900 range? I'm sure I am paying for quality and loaded features, but I really only care about image quality but not sure if paying double, triple or quadruple that of the $170 ebay special. Maybe my cnb indoor cameras wont bring out the true capability of a highend dvr? Maybe something like the CNB VBM-24VF or VCM-24VF would I then notice what I am missing with higher end DVR. Enlighten me...
  17. SEANHWG: Thats a great way to test! That would probably be the easiest way to test without purchasing a highend unit. BPZLE: I believe its some rebranded avtech as it works with their viewer and few other hints I see. I guess my answer is if I want to upgrade to couple of MP cameras it would be worth the upgrade. Great forum, thanks guys!!
  18. If one of my acti acm-1231supports mjpeg and my acti supports h.264, can both format be recorder onto my single nas or nvr? Or I must choose one format for all my cameras to be recorder to single nvr/nas. Also all my cameras are POE class 2 except one of my camera is class 1. Can I plug it into my poe switch thats powers all my class 2 devices? Or I need to get a seperate poe switch that does class 1? Sorry for such beginners questions...
