    Can't see facial details

Put a single gang box on the wall and run conduit to it. Mount the camera in the surface mount box.

    Can't see facial details

This might work better during the day since you will be pointing in the same direction as the sun and not against it like now. However when the sun begins to set your image may be not so great. I would put a second camera closer to the door also to get better shots of faces.
  4. PVC Conduit is so cheap that putting it makes sense if the wire is to be run on the outside of a building. EMT Conduit can be used if you are worried about vandals. GRC Conduit if you are really worried.
  5. Putting up signs can put you in risk of a lawsuit. Consult with a lawyer about audio recording in California. Putting up a sign that you are doing something against the law doesn't make it legal and ok.
  6. In California, you can record a conversation with the consent of only one party if criminal activity (kidnapping, extortion, bribery or a violent felony) is involved.

I have seen better picture from cheaper cameras.

Its funny isn't that a Samsung camera? The picture is not that great for a brand name like that. It probably does not have a mechanical WDR function.
  9. What if they wear a hat? A camera has to be able to identify someone by their face.
  10. I don't understand why you installed the camera so high. You will never see anyone's face with that height!?
  11. I had the same problem. User "tomcctv" recommended it to me also. Seems to be great camera but you cant find anybody who sell it in the United States.

    Why aren't there any 1080P DVR's yet?

Why cant 960x576 can be sent over RG59, its just a regular video signal right? You can send a very good picture over rca, why not rg59? I think that the recorders compression is important because a poorly compressed video signal will look bad with any of resolution. No idea. Can 960×576 travel along RG59? Personally I would wait for someone else to test it out and post the results before buying it.

Where to hide the DVR ????

Hide it in a lock box. Connect the lock box to an alarm system tamper switch / vibration contact to protect it.
  14. A few days ago there a forum topic about a 700tvl camera vs. a CNB Monalisa. Having the 700tvl camera in question from that seller / manufacturer I though it would be interesting to show the image quality. While I do NOT have a CNB Monalisa to compare with, I do want to show how the camera compares to those I do have. Cameras: #1 = Sony 700tvl Effio-E 3.6mm Fixed Lens (Empire ESC4) #2 = Sony 520tvl HAD 3.6mm Fixed Lens (Gadspot GS658B) #3 = Sony 480tvl Super HAD 4mm Fixed Lens (Atrix DVCCMDNV665H) #4 = (SAME AS #2) P.S: This picture from a very rainy day at 8:05PM today. I'm very interested in your feedback.

    bnc/power pigtail for board camera

You know I actually need the 4 pin female plug. Do you have one?
  16. Maybe something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-4-Video-Amplifier-RCA-Splitter-Car-Distribution-UA-/360386953826?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item53e8bc8262#ht_6453wt_1165 Just use a BNC to RCA converter on the ports. That should work no?

Slashing of tires... what the hell

Don't get overexcited. You are far better off finding out who this person is, having a conviction and forcing him to pay damages your car received from his actions. Since this person is walking a dog he or she not a homeless or poor person and can probably be forced to pay (with money) for his actions. If YOU make the unfortunate decision to assault this person you will be jailed for a longer time then he / she will. Be smart, don't overreact, have a cool head, and always stay calm. Good Luck!!

Slashing of tires... what the hell

Thats one of the worst footage I have ever seen. I think you need to replace your camera with something a little better then that. You cant even tell if the person is a man or a women from that video. You need to get a varifocal camera with a tight shot of the car and leave some light on motion sensors. Thats your best bet.

    quality of dome security cameras

I always wondered why many important buildings use Panasonic. I wasnt sure if they were just wasting money on a big brand or if the cameras were actually so much better as you claim. Do you have any pictures from the Panasonic analog cameras?
  20. Sounds like the power supply you are using is not providing enough power for the IR's to operate. Get a sufficient power supply for the amperage your camera draws and you should be ok. Otherwise, it might just be a bad power supply.

    Multimeter Recommendations

Sound like a toy not a tool. Have you ever lost a multimeter? Now consider losing your multimeter, video monitor, cable tester, etc. Plus things that are all-in-one are mostly gimmicks.

    Samsung SCO-2080R -- First images

Does this camera have WDR function? If yes turning it on should correct the image.

    closeout cctv rant

I agree I have tried some of Empire's cameras and have been very impressed with the picture quality for the price. See link: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26825
  24. Hi; Welcome to the forum. Look at camera one on my home. I just replaced it with this new one. See if you like the quality. Look at Camera 1 (Fr Door) viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26825 Also, check out the CNB Monalisa cameras which are popular with forum members on this site and can probably work well if you have some ambient lighting not far from the camera.
