    Is Q-See Equipment any good?

Analog DVR's there really isn't all the security loop holes like there might be in IP systems. Since the analog systems tend to be older, most quirks were worked out. With IP systems when an update is available I recommend NOT to update right away because you don't know how it will affect the system reliability. (Why are major corporations usually 1-2 versions behind on operating system?) Let me give you an example: You have a business with security cameras. An update comes out with an additional feature you don't really need but feel is "cool to have". You immediately update saying "oh great I will have the latest and greatest" After the update all goes well until you go to review recorded video and realize the system starts to malfunction. What then? Ooopss.... My point is you risk system reliability when you update right away without waiting for a few weeks for issues with the software / firmware release to be reported by other customers. Unless you like being a Ginnie pig...
  3. An extraordinary look into fingerprints and their supposed "infallibility". I urge each one of you to watch this extraordinary and eye opening documentary by PBS Frontline. Please comment. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/real-csi/

    Is Q-See Equipment any good?

With IP Hybrid NVR maybe its different. I agree. But generally with analog only DVR customers don't bother with firmware updates unless there is a new feature added that they really want or need.

    REVIEW: ACTi TCM-7811

Who cares authorized or unauthorized distributor for your own home? For a big government bid they want warranty. But most people buy on price. Why pay more? Problem file a dispute with credit card company... Problem Solved. You don't like it Axis. Well too bad for you... This is the reality of how people reason. Why should I pay more for the same product? Costco does something similar with certain products. Instead of buying from distributors and selling at MSRP they use "gray market buying" to give themselves a durable competitive advantage in the market. So all you Costco fan boys what do you think now? Is it wrong or right? P.S = I HATE COSTCO... Only in America would you buy larger portions of food and then complain you are getting fat...

What UPS are you guys using?

This doesn't make sense. The OP said he will be using a 8ch DVR & Power Supply and we recommend a Casino grade UPS? The UPS might not fit in the closet with his CCTV equipment. Very Funny Carl...

    The Confessions

    - How accurate are police interrogation? - How coercive are they? - Can an innocent person be coerced to plead guilty to a crime? If you are concerned about the "justice" system and are interested in expanding your knowledge then watch PBS Frontline. The Confessions. http://video.pbs.org/video/1637166286

    Fingerprints... How reliable are they?

I really hope the "justice" system in Canada doesnt utilize "tinfoil-hat" science. Otherwise you are in the same boat we are in. Matt, i urge you to watch the video.

    CAT 5 question pleaase :)

Heres a solution. Terminate the Cat5e on each side with a rj45 connector and connect to this balun. It lets you send power, audio, and video all through one cat5e cable. Below is a link. What do you think? http://www.ebay.com/itm/230757023529

    CAT 5 question pleaase :)

Yes. As long as the PTZ is 12v DC and not 24v AC. No. RG59 Siamese is usually 18 gauge. Good Luck.

    PTZ... wow!

Next time I'am in your casino in S. California can I take a tour? Thanks

    PTZ... wow!

Great comment, rory. Please don't apply for any casino jobs. Installing is one thing. Watching & operating cameras all day from a room of monitors is another. Whats the turnaround like in the Surveillance dept Carl? It seems like a pretty boring, not to mention eye straining job.

How do you deal with junk mail?

Mr. Carl... How have you been? Long time no see.

Why is that? because its on eBay? Whenever something goes on eBay the quality degrades?
  23. Anybody used regular touchstone phone in phone system? Need a system which can allow number triggers. (Example *1 = PA SYSTEM, *2 = Preset Extension, *3 = Door strike Release, etc.) Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I heard they are out of business from a source. I'm interested in buying some of their Pixim box cameras. I hear Pixim is good for WDR and so am tempted to buy it, but before I did I wanted to see what the opinions of forum members was. Anyone used Pixim in WDR applications? What were your thoughts? Thanks.
