Newb setting up simple security system...need some advice
tndistributor replied to MikeB's topic in General Digital Discussion
Mike, If you want a wireless camera in your location consider some things: Are there any devices putting off rf signal already in the home that could interfere?? Wireless router, phone, etc? Most wirelss cameras are gonna be 2.4ghz or 900mhz. You need to determine what distance is required for your application, and keep in mind any obstacles between the transmitter and reciever. Also consider the cost of going wireless as compared to hardwired. It might be cheaper to just run the cable (or have a licensed installer do it for you, which i recommend) and be done with it. In regard to wireless cameras don't be fooled by cheap wireless stuff and advertised ranges. Alot of wireless products advertised say they'll go 1000ft los but in reality they barely go 40ft. Just be cautious. If you want good quality wireless products your gonna pay for the quality product, But at least you'll know it works and doesn't crap out in a few days. I've seen quality merchandise perform perfectly one day and then be jumpy the next day, so be patient with whatever you purchase and don't get frustrated if certain days it's pefect and others it's kinda jumpy. Just some thoughts for you to consider. Hope it works out well for you. -
i like that better...... p.s. i can't believe i'm actually talking about this.......i guess biz is slow...

I guess your actually right......They really don't manufacture anything, just slap a label on a box and say "it's our product". We'll call them a importing distributor....that better???.....

I really thought Mace was just giving us bad service. After all the threads here I see they really have a big problem on there hands. We started purchasing from mace when they first started their CCTV division...Actually we were their first distributor and last year were their "2005 Distributor of the Year"... .. We've averaged around 300,000 a year purchasing from the beginning.....that is until this year... .....We've noticed there service and techinical departments have increasingly been on the decline for about the last year and a half. It's really too bad because they do have decent product with decent pricing. The problem is when a manufacturer does bad it makes us look really bad as a distributor to our dealers. Because of the lack of service we currently are reducing our orders with them.....I hope they can get their act together soon.

A recent dealer of ours has recently inquired about his need for a license plate camera for a guard shack. Need some opinions on a good & reliable license plate camera that works. Not really worried about price for this application just something that has a good performance record. Any suggestions on what's worked for you?
-
Absolutely true. He knows it's gonna be pricey, but for this application the customer has no choice. I just want to make sure whatever goes in works well and is reliable. It sounds like extreme is the way to go.

geez.....3 votes for Extreme so far. This will be the dealer when i tell him the price >>>> lol... this is gonna be priceless..

Thanks for the honest informed post. This DVR can't be everything to everybody( nor can any dvr being marketed today) but the arguement stands that for the money it is one of the best overall, high performance, advanced feature, and stable dvr 's that we've ever sold. You can't ask for much more than that in todays market.

Wow!! There's been aload of talk about this IC realtime dvr..... Got an idea, If anyone has not been satisfied with the performance thus far or has been seeing "green"(green with envy if ya ask me) why not call IC Realtime and take a couple of minutes and have a professional demonstration of the product done with Matt or one of the techs?? We all know there are lots of little issues that contribute to a DVR's performance, so if you've experienced something undesireable call the manufacturer and get it resolved instead of speculating about it. Then make a informed post after you've had the demo. Now don't get me wrong, Constructive criticism is always appreciated and if there is a problem I'm sure ICR would like to know about it as would I...but I think you need to have a demo done for ya to truly appreciate and understand what this product offers. Just a thought...

With all this talk about the IC Realtime Dvr's it's making me feel all warm and fuzzy.... Every dealer that I've had purchase one of these units has been very satisfied and has said this is the dvr there going to purchase from now on for their CCTV applications. With the posts you guys are putting up it just verify's the fact that is was a very good decision for me to sign up as the Midwest Distributor for IC Realtime. I really think that DVR is the unit most manufacturers are going to be comparing their units too for future upgrades and improvements. Keep up the Hard work Matt and tell those engineers to keep coming up with more ideas!! These units are "scootin" out of our doors and most importantly there not coming back.... Dustin

"The proof is in the puddin" with this dvr. I encourage anyone who hasn't yet seen the demo of the dvr to do so asap. We literally have started switching our dealers to these units since we first saw it in action, and as of yet we haven't had one negative response.
