  1. Hello, I'm currently testing out some Vivotek Camera's(I'll upload pictures and movies to the Megapixel camera thread later) and was wondering: 1) What format do you guys record in? Jpeg? H.264? Mpeg? 2) What do you choose constant bitrate or a quality measure? 3) How many FPS? 5-10 ? Currently going for 5 atm. myself. after looking at http://www.panasonic.com/business/security/demos/PSS-recording-rates.html 4) Anyone point me towards a link which can help me understand the shutter speed? Currently set at 1/30. I'm just trying to make sure I have the best video quality available, but would love some pointers to what is "best". Professionals aren't a option, as the most recent quote was 20.000$ and the one before that was 28.000$ for what I wanted( Ip camera's, UPS, PoE switch, remote viewing, server) From what I read on the forums, it was mostly companies scaring people about H.264 and it not being able to record the full frame(?) - But furthermore that the H.264 is good for streaming, but once you stop and need to take a picture the quality drops significantly and therefore Mpeg is "best". I know that there isn't a universal answer to the question as it depends on the situation, however what would be the best all-arounder?
  2. Hello, Software Can some contractors/integrators send me some price quotes on Avermedia Exaq Milestone Aviligon Surveillance software - Need it running on a PC. I'll need license for up to 8 IP-camera's connected(Or perhaps 6 to start with and the possibility to buy more) Based in Denmark, Europe. Cable: Should I go with a FTP cable or is UTP fine as well? Thinking of ordering a 100m length of Delcato EIA/TIA-568 categori 6

    Exacq Help?

Is that really so? I thought the Vivotek were midrange/quality among the IP's ? :/
  4. Could u perhaps elaborate a bit more on that? The camera's get a IP address, and it should be pretty straight forward after that? Of course you have to consider the impact on the existing infrastructure, but other than that is there something I'm missing? Lastly, is it possible to get a trial version of the avigilon software? And could someone PM me the price of it? I wrote the sales in Europe, but it's been a few days and no answer
  5. the cost of any software licence is probably just integrated into the total cost, or is it that cheap? Like I said, "'The price of them' includes the software licenses that you'll be paying extra for if you build your own". I've taken a look at the VioStor VS-2008L, which'll probably be the one I go, yet I stumbled upon Milestone Xprotect Go. Up to 8 cameras, yet it only keeps recordings for 5 days(Not too bad for me tbh) - And it's free! Gotta test it out a bit more to see if it still can give the sms notifications and remote site backup and so on but if so then yay! If not, well Qnas it'll most likely be

Small club - IP + PoE + PC help needed

VideoIQ looks nice, but since I can't try them out in real life without buying them first, I'm giving them a pass. I've ordered 1x8134 and 1x8361 Vivotek camera's. Will report back when I know more and have tried them out, if not I'll lose 20$ to send them back, but this isn't really a area where I wanna be the one who's screwed up if the vandals come back
  7. True Soundy, but let me ask have you had any hands on experience with Qnap's? How hard is the setup and so forth? What about the recording speed and so forth? The Qnap are very nice, small, and handy and as you say I'll be free of the software license and it'll most likely run longer on any UPS compared to a system I build.

Small club - IP + PoE + PC help needed

Hello John, Let me be honest with you - I'm hoping to do most stuff my self in order to save money and build up some experience for my own home I've taken a look at your website and I must admit the idea is really good, yet in this situation not beneficial for me as we've had both our camera's and DVR stolen previously, so I need the offsite option as well as having it locally where I can hide it. - Since power has been cut before I need it to be PoE camera's as well so they don't black out if someone cuts power(With a UPS I can keep going for some time) Secondly, I couldn't really find sample video's of your camera's in action. Thank you for your offer though
  9. The Camera's Auch.. that's not good Well.. a local NVR/PC is must be then - I was thinking of getting the above mentioned Vivotek's - Can anyone suggest something better in the same pricerange/task? Day and night recording - Light will be limited at night. PoE IP-Kamera, good resolution is paramount(Need to indentify people). 2xOutside - 1xcovering a 30m entrance to our building(Vivotek 8361) 1xCovering the PowerKabel(Vivotek FD8134V) 2xInside - Covering our general area(FD8134) The NVR/PC NVR or PC? What software with the PC? Would a old P4, 2,8 ghz, 1,5 gb ram be able to handle 4 camera's?
  10. Of all the Qnap and Synology boxes I've been able to find, most only support 4 or 8 camera's total(At least that's what I think it means), and for the price of them I'd think one could easily build a PC system themselves that's a lot "stronger" and more scalable? Or am I missing something crucial?
  11. We don't have any cap here, nor are we charged extra for bandwith used over XX gb in Denmark. The internet going down is a issue, but our Internet is generally very stable. I'm a bit curious about 3) - So a Megapixel camera would be useless? Hopefully the camera wont record 24/7, but only when it detects motion. Worse case scenario is that it doesn't look like I want it or record as I want it, which forces me to move the Pc to site itself?
  12. Hello, I was wondering if anyone could perhaps comment on how fesable it would be to record offsite? I'm thinking something along the lines of: 4xVivotek PoE Ip-kamera's(1x8361, 3xFD8134) - At the lack of knowing about better camera's Cisco router with PoE -> Internet router(From ISP) -> Wan connection(20 mbit / 4 mbit) -> My house(Recorder) I'm basically thinking of having the camera's placed at the location I want to record(Location A), but I want the recordings themselves to be offsite like at my own house. Do you think a 4 mbit(Roughly 400 kb/s upload) is enough bandwith to send the feed from 4 camera's via the Internet to my house (Where I will place a PC that will record what's happening on the camera's) ? The reason is that we've had our DvR stolen before, so it'd be perfect if I can just connect via the Internet to the camera's and record from there.
  13. Hello, I need some advice on on a private/semi-public surveillance systems for a small club, where we have little trouble with two factions and a few young people engaged in vandalism. We therefore need some CCTV surveillance which can operate day and night (Night Vision) and activates with motion, recording locally and also located a copy offsite. I'd like to get IP cameras that get their power via LAN cable(PoE), as this is a cheap cable and I can connect a UPS to my switch and computer and thus ensure that even if power is interrupted(Yes, the little bastards did this too) there will be recorded for a while. Need to have - Recording to a local hard drive - Recording / Copying to offsite server (Previously we had our DVR and Camera's stolen) - (Eg. JPEG images that are updated every 15 sec?) - Motion detection(I assume the software handles this?) - IP camera (Provides good resolution, Network Cable can deliver everything via PoE) - Web-interface(So I can check from home if anything's up) Nice to have - SMS notification/alert on movement (So I know I should go check my camera's via the web now) - Finding some good IP camera that can be used indoors and outdoors, respectively. - Find some software that can be used to record from the cameras. I've been able to get my hands on a used Cisco SFE2000p switch for 100$, but that's about the only thing I currently have. My budget is about 4-5000$ - And I live in Denmark
