    bosch dvr

I narrowed my search to a bosch since the price I am getting is 10% over cost and I wanted to get the best dvr I could for my buck by getting a primo brand. I only have three cameras installed and I plan to eventually have 6. The cameras are a bosch phortress and two unity prepackaged 1/3 ccd cameras that produce 540TVL. I narrowed the choice to a deas due to its: 1. 120IPS 2. 680x480 resolution 3. 8 channels (two above projected need for cushion) 4. I read that MJPEG provides better stills than MPEG-4 (My goal would be MPEG-2 based on what I've read since MPEG-4 needs so much more processing power the machines I looked at stop at 2CIF and I don't need storage capacity compression savings) 5. It has a 15-pin port so I can hook it to my KVM switch in our computer room. I also like the Dibos8 Micro due to: 1. 6 channels which meets my projected need 2. MPEG-4 seems to be the new standard so it is sufficient 3. It has the minium IPS I want (60) or 10 each for my eventual 6 cameras 4. IP camera capability 5. XP platform, which I assume is more up to date 6. Since the new DesaXL is out, the availability of the Desa8 is dwindling each day. 7. USB 2.0 port and built in CD burner 8. It will go on my rack instead of being a tower like the Desa8 9. It comes with bilinx, which I don't plan on using too much, but its stil cool If anyone knows of a high-end quality machine with at least 6 channels, 60IPs at 4 CIF with a 15 pin output, I'd love to hear about it. However, for it to compete it would have to be less than $3,000

    desa vs dibos

Would anyone like to help me decide between a Bosch desa8 (not the new xl) and the Bosch Dibos8? I like the ip, mpeg4 capabilities of the Dibos but the Desa records 4CIF at 120 IPS as opposed to the 2CIF at 60 IPS of the Dibos. We have already purchased 540TVL day/night cameras so I don't want the dvr recording capabilities to be the bottleneck. Our office got tagged recently, and the purpose of the camera is to be able to make out license plate #s, faces or other evidence if it happens again. space on the hard drive is not an issue as we are only interested in the recording if something happened, so as long as I had a week or two to review motion detected video during the evenings, I will be fine. Any help is appreciated.

    desa vs dibos

I will forget about the desa then. I will wait for the dibos micro to ship on march 1st. I just hate to invest money in a dvr that can only do 2CIF.
