  1. Anybody got any more software suggestions? Cheers
  2. Hello I'm trying to set up a domestic CCTV system but I'm having a few problems. I first bought a 4 camera setup with DVR but the playback was propriety .264 and could only be read on the DVR player. My next problem was that I bought a Swann USB converter to connect a security camera to my PC. The man in the shop said that the USB device would be able to work with Windows 7 privided I got the relevant drivers from their site. Those drivers never existed and I could not get the USB device to work with Windows 7. So, with all this in mind, what options or solutions do I have with connecting a CCTV system to a PC running Windows 7? I don't even mind building a PC from scratch to a required spec, and using Linux, as long as the system works.
  3. Unfortunately I haven't used XP since Vista came out. Since then I've used quite a few Linux distros, put apple onto my PC and I'm now happy with Windows 7. I no longer have a copy of XP, sorry
  4. Sorry, but it does not work. Thanks for trying, as it is indeed appreciated. Cheers
  5. hi. i take it you had a CNM in the past. this is a good little unit will do everything you need. http://www.aver.com/Surveillance/Product/Detail.aspx?id=252 Are these products so easy to spot? I wasn't that happy with it. Thanks for the link, which I;m checking out right now. What features should I be looking for in a DVR box? Cheers
  6. Hello Is it possible to build a cheap computer with a Linux OS to run ZoneMinder and a couple of cameras? So far I have a DVR setup from a local store but it records in a propriety format which can only be viewed on the player. Not exactly a good idea especially if I want to provide evidence to the police. I would very much appreciate comments on the ZoneMinder software I would also appreciate advice on what hardware I would need for my cheap computer. The motherboard, processor, RAM, PSU are a given but it is other stuff that I would appreciate recommendations on. Cheers
  7. Thanks for the advice which is much appreciated. Just had a look at how much a cheap computer would cost with a monitor and I'm thinking that a netbook would come in at roughly the same price. Small, cheap and got a built in monitor. Can you envisage any probs with a little netbook for running and storing surveillance footage? Cheers
  8. Thank you for all your replys, they are much appreciated. In the end I found some small cheap waterproof junction boxes from B&Q with IP66 rating.
  9. Thanks for the link. I had a good read of the site yesterday and it is very helpful. I've even asked the local police for their input as well. Cheers
  10. Sorry about that. I live in Great Britain.
  11. A waterproof box design would be a good idea. Don't suppose you could suggest any? Cheers
