Mostly, so I can add more monitors. Plus, the alarm triggering to that camera on the monitor draws my attention.

My business is located behind my home. So, you could say that I'm an end user who uses the unit for personal use and business. Mostly, I just have fun playing with this stuff. I find it all very interesting. The first system I bought (about 3 years ago), was a Sony YS-DX516 multiplexor and a HSR-X200 Single Channel Digital Recorder. I had a lot of trouble with the recorder and could not get the problem resolved. However, I recently found out that it was just a bad HDD. Anyway, I replaced the Sony with the Panasonic and find it to be a Mac Truck compared to a Model T. Because of my location, I have not put up any ptz's. But from what I understand, one can control the Panasonic ptz cameras from the front of the unit itself and through the network connection. Oh, I see that the unit you're showing is a ps data control. I will have to look into that because, I do want to improve on what I have and learn more. You're right, I would love playing with something like that. Anyway, this thing has been running for a year and a half and doesn't miss anything. I really like it. For now, I loop through the Panasonic to the Sony multiplexer. The multiplexer will move to any camera that is triggered by an alarm for veiwing by the monitor and/or the recorder connected to it.

What kind of lens are you using?

As some one with not much experience, I still find that advertising is one thing and reality is another. I am very interested in cctv. And as an end user and hobbyist, I have to learn through trial and error or the best way I can. I wish I would have known about the forum a long time ago.

The Demo is very good. I don't think I'm doing my Panasonic WJ-HD316 justice with the verity of Pro Video cameras. I have cvc 637's, cvc 6700's. cvc 6705's. cvc 870's, cvc 550's, and HT7815DNV. They all look grainy at night. It looks like I might try one from the Demo.

New to CCTV... looking for a "good" camera. :)
Metal Shaper Man replied to Dave18's topic in Security Cameras
I'm confused? Are you looking for small security cameras used for survaillance? Or, are you looking for a video camera used for creating live or filmed closed cicurit tv productions like a local High School foot ball game.play or something like that? -
Adding 2nd Hard Drive To DVMRE-4eZT 80GB
Metal Shaper Man replied to backfocus's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I don’t have much experience, but, I just upgraded two DVR.s.. One is a Sony HSR-X 200 and the other a Panasonic WJ-HD316. As for the Sony, I had trouble with it from day one. I called Sony and they were of no help. They could only tell me I was pushing the wrong buttons. Figuring that I had nothing to lose, I replaced the existing Maxtor 5400 rpm HDD. The local PC stores didn’t have any 5400 rpm HDD or any model matching the old HDD. However, the PC tech’s said that changing the speed didn’t make much difference. But, I should match the speed of both HDD’s due to the info transfer rate. So, I replaced the 80 GB HDD and upgraded with a second 80 GB HDD both at 7200 rpm. As for the Sony, I still have question in regard to the master and slave settings? Nevertheless, I set the HDD,s as one master and the other a slave. The unit now works very well. When I upgraded the Panasonic WJ-HD316, I called Panasonic. The Tech. said I could use the 7200 rpm HDD’s but, there could be a heat problem due to the increase in speed. I understood what he was saying, however, I think he was just protecting himself and/or the company??? The Panasonic tech. also told me that both HDD’s should be set as master because the WJ-HD300 series are programed for those settings. According to Panasonic, not all their DVR models HDD,s are set the same in regard to master and slave.. Therefore, I would check with the manufacturer or someone with experience like those you will find on this forum in regard to the master-slave HDD setting for your DVR model. I must add, the cable in the Sony had an extra connector for connecting the extra HDD plus an extra for the power. It was one cable coming for the circuit board with a black connector for the HDD that was already there and a green connector for the exta HDD. The Panasonic had two cables coming from the circuit board, both with black connectors and one extra power cord. That may answer the question as to why the Sony HDD,s were configuried Master and Slave and the Panasonic configuried Master and Master. I hope my recent experience helps. -
I agree. With my limited experience with only two DVR's I can see and understand what you are saying. I also agree that 15 fps will cover the task. And most of all, I agree that there are no short cuts when it comes to doing any job right. That's why it will cost $100,000.00 to $150,000.00 for me to restore an old Packard. No detail will be missed.

I knew we would end up getting someone with more than back yard knollodge that could answer the question. However, how doe's that effect picture quality as far as ID.

As I understand it, the unit will play one camera at, lets say, 30 fps. However, if you have four cameras, you have to devide 30 by four. In this case play back is only 7.5 fps per camera or channel. If you have a 120 fps set on your dvr you will get 30 fps but you will most likely have to use a lower picture quality setting. It's a trade off. That's why I said, I don't think you will find exactly what you're looking for in a DVR. I have a Panasonic WJ-HD 316 which is a 16 channel unit. I can set it at frame but with 16 cameras I only get 1 fps. If I use the feield setting I get 3 fps. There is anther setting that gives me 120 fps ,but, the picture quality is nothing like the first two. I'm pretty sure they all work the same way. You may want to look into something that will give you realtime play back. However, there is a sacrifise. You unit must recognize alarms from the cameras and only the alarm will play in real time. This will stop the other cameras from recording so the unit can record the fps in real time. Ther is a lot to this and the advertising can mislead you. Try to find out as much as you can before you spend a lot of money. I can tell you more if you would like. But it is hard to explain in short terms for as simple as it is in the end. I'm pretty sure that all of them are the frame rate divided by the amount of cameras on recording or play back. However, there is a chip or circuit board built into my unit that will allow live pictures to show all 16 cameras in full frame rate.

First, I must tell you that I’m very new to the subject. I have an antique car restoration business and use a surveillance system for obvious reasons. I’m also very interested in cctv, therefore, I did learn a few things before buying and after purchasing two DVR’S. If I understand correctly what you are asking, I, don’t think you will find anything that will do all you’re asking for. Before I go into a big lecture on field, frame, fps and ips, please tell me how much experience you have in this subject.
