twisting 12v power cable without using dc connectors
jmeader posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
i've had a mare of a day yesterday trying to solder dc connectors and decided there must be an easier way, i cut the dc connector off the camera as i didnt have a suitable connector on the 12v power cable and although i am aware such connectors exist would there be any reason why i couldnt just twist up the black and red wires and wrap them up with insultation tape they will be housed in an ip44 junction box for added protection also, do any of you put dessicant inside the junction boxes to remove any moisture or is that a bit ott? -
my earlier suggestions regarding dmz and forwarding every port to the dvr should help you work out if the firewall is causing the problem, portforward.com lists pretty much every major vendor's model of router to guide you through the process

cant connect to http://92.18.38.176:4000 using ie8 does the dvr support telnet? if so i will try a telnet session linto the dvr later when im home unless anyone wants to try that before i do? i think it might still be the firewall, if it's disabled then it may not be routing to his dvr static lan ip if the firewall is enabled and not correctly forwarding through a port to his static lan ip then i suggest a range of ports or you could try enabled all ports from 1-66555 (is that the last port you can use i dont know but should be good enough to test!) or if you have the option for dmz, enable it to one single lan ip which will be the dvr because this will do the same job as routing all ports, it depends on the make and model of the router, most routers have the dmz option but if not just forward all the ports

yes the NAT (network address translation) forms a LAN (local area network) so u can use class c ip address ranges, in other words the NAT allows you to have more than one pc behind the firewall in a private network and you can direct traffic to and from different local ip's using ports, in your case 4000 i just got your pm i'll take a look when out the bath as my iphone prob needs an app which i dont have

are you able to try try adding a 2nd user with admin rights? it could be that the admin account is for standalone use only and wont authenticate LAN or WAN connections -
ok if all internet traffic is being diverted to the local ip of the DVR then youve ruled out the firewall and it could be a similar issue to what i had with my pc based avermedia dvr the other day i had to enable incoming connections from outside my LAN, it could be the DVR blocking WAN connections as untrusted, are you connecting from the same real world ip or using a remote app to connect to another pc on a different internet connection? if not and u want me to test it from here then pm me your real world ip and port number
-
try the following for diagnostics a range of ports such as 4000-4010 tcp and udp dmz the firewall to your dvr as a temporary test using http://realworldipaddress:portnumber (use your ip and port number) to rule out if its a firewall issue

try here if youre in the uk [mod edit: store link removed] im new to all this too and just bought 4 cameras from the day/night range -
i've just done this myself but would like to add the following if your router supports DDNS (dynamic dns) you can check the option on it and type in your hostname, username and password details that you created with dyndns also, you can register a pro account for just $15 and choose from more host names, my favourite is homeip.net, and dyndns will automatically renew your host name every year and you can have 32 per account, a local security installer currently pays £50 to an I.T firm to provide this per site and so im going to be doing it for them at a lower rate once ive met them to discuss terms

" title="Applause" /> thanks for the replies really appreciate it -
hello this is my first post after reading some posts on here im based in the uk, south east, and i want to offer new and existing clients for my business the opportunity to have cctv installed in their homes and offices i am a computer engineer with a good 16 years of all round I.T experience and i have already enjoyed configuring an 8 camera dvr installation which had the brand or model name ECO on it and found this very easy to relate too as it seems closely related to I.T (IP addressing, remote access etc) my weakest area of expertise is with the actual installation of the cameras, i am very worried about drilling through a mains electricity cable, heating cable or anything else that could result in damage to a client's property i've heard that the lower budget new build properties here dont even have a metal tracer to allow for detection of cables behind the plasterboard, with no knowledge of the building trade this is a major concern for me i want to invest in some good tools and find a reputable supplier for parts and stick to a 1 or 2 brands so i can become more familiar with them i have heard from an ex BT telecomms engineer that i should get an SDS drill as they are better for drilling masonary, i already have a good collection of DeWALT tools for carpentry and would consider sticking to this brand i have read many different posts about what cables to use, either RG59 coax or CAT5e and baluns, i would prefer the CAT5 as i have read you can power the cameras with it would anyone have some time to give me their thoughts on what i should invest in to make it possible for me to enter this market please? i am keen to build the DVR's myself and have been looking at AverMedia NV3000 and NV5000 dvr capture cards i have little to no clue about cameras, there are just so many, i keep reading about Pelco cameras but again would appreciate anyone else's views my list of tools is looking something like this although i don't have it all yet: drill - sds? combi? drill bits (types, lengths, diameter) ? tool to detect stud work, metal, cables etc behind the plasterboard, an x-ray camera maybe? outdoor sealant to seal the hole watertight? cabling - cat5e & baluns or rg59 siamese power supply if using rg59 siamese cables ? baluns that supply power from the cat5e to the cameras? ratchet crimp - yes cat5e tester - yes telescopic ladders - yes white van - no (but i have a vauxhall astra) conduit/trunking (lengths, widths) ? with regards to the pc based DVR, AverMedia seem to do most testing on ASUS motherboards, i was wondering what type of chassis to use, ATX or a smaller form factor? i have been building pc's since windows 95 and just asked as a question of preference in the consumer market thanks in advance james
