"All-in-One" or Build my own
SectorSecurity replied to NSEW360's topic in General Digital Discussion
I agree, you may be able to get a swann IP package or something for that money but you will be limited, you surely will not be getting the best definition on the market for 2500$. Add a couple zeros and you have have the best definition on the market for 8 cameras. -
What DVR type to buy and best way to connect to TV etc
SectorSecurity replied to AlienDroid's topic in Digital Video Recorders
This converter will go from HDMI to RCA Female. Then you need to create your own cable from the DVR, so one end of the cable has a BNC connector and connects to the DVR video output, then the other end of the cable you put an RCA male. Then plug the RCA male into this adapter and you will be able to have HDMI. -
Recommended/better RG59 Siamese cable for analog runs?
SectorSecurity replied to Razer_SE's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Using Remee for mine and haven't seen any issues, I use Honeywell Genesis for my 22/4 cable. I believe I saw RG59 w/ 18-2 on sale this month at ADI. The RG59 is the 500' spool. Cat6 and CAT5e are also on sale this month, if you want the prices send me a PM. -
From a supplier installer's view
SectorSecurity replied to Numb-nuts's topic in General Digital Discussion
Can't comment on their camera's or DVR's but have always loved their lens' great price point and solid build. Let me know how you like their DVR's I would like to know if they are any good. -
What DVR type to buy and best way to connect to TV etc
SectorSecurity replied to AlienDroid's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Thanx for the link The problem is my TV I guess. As I said in previous posts my TV doesn't have RCA so that isn't an option unfortunately. Think I'm expecting too much for my low budget so now considering upping my budget and look for a unit with HDMI output. If I have one cam with sound will that come through the HDMI connection or will I still need RCA for that? Sorry about the very basic question, I've just never even looked at this type of connection before. That was an HDMI to RCA converter I showed you, connect the HDMI end to your TV then connect the female RCA to the Male RCA off your camera cable and on the other end of the camera cable use BNC to connect to the DVR. This will let you go from BNC to RCA to HDMI, thus should work with your TV. -
This sounds like just a cheap camera, and probably some interference and possibly some bad connections, switching to CAT5 will not make a difference if the camera is no good. Next time please start your own topic as we are discussing Balun issues, not issues with your setup.

Why not just use media converters on the existing COAX runs and just pop an RJ45 end on the CAT5 runs? This would allow you to go IP, you would probably need to add some POE injectors but I can't say for sure. Then you can utilize the existing wiring runs and get your IP cameras. As has been stated HD-SDI will mean new DVR's and new Cameras, and the posibility of repeaters if the cabling runs are to long. You should not need much if any Fiber to go IP and switches and routers will only need 1 or 2 gigabit ports and POE to handle the trunking to the NVR. Although I know where you are coming from with the IT guys, spent many years working computer security and try telling an IT team they need to change something even for security reasons is like hitting your head against the wall until you forget why you are even there.

Opinions on 2-way audio and getting it to reliably work?
SectorSecurity replied to ryuker16's topic in General Digital Discussion
It may be there is just so much talk on the network the audio isn't getting the priority it needs. Usually we have to use a QOS filter to prioritize the traffic above the rest, or but it on its own network all together, this is generally what is done with VOIP. I have not tried the products you have mentioned so I can't say how well the 2-way audio works or does not work. If you want to figure out if its bandwidth or hardware, get a router and connect only the 2-way audio devices to the network and test them out, this should give you an idea if its the devices or the network. As for accessing remotely most people have about a 256KB link for their upload speed, this will cause audio to have problems. -
What does it matter if he has a digital or analog signal coming in? Almost any TV made within the last 15 years will have a standard RCA port on it, thus all he has to do is switch the AV input. As for the digital TV problem, I don't see what issue adding a modulator would have. Cable comes in, goes through the modulator, then carries on to the digtial box, I have not tested my theory but assume it would work, still using the AV input is easier and does not require a modulator to modulate the RF signal. But as you say I am assuming the DVR has a BNC video out, which almost every system does, and the TV has an RCA input, which almost every TV does so I make the assumption BNC to RCA should work.

KGuard SHA-104.V2 stopped logging..
SectorSecurity replied to psteen's topic in Digital Video Recorders
By not logging I assume you mean its capturing the event sending the alerts but not storing it ot the hard drive correct? Are you sure the hard drive is not full and that it is properly formatted and recognized by the DVR? -
Camera image viewer
SectorSecurity replied to moballa's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
The only thing I can think of would be software you wrote youself, you would have to write a piece of software to display the pictures and update pictures every 30 seconds based on the creation date. -
What DVR type to buy and best way to connect to TV etc
SectorSecurity replied to AlienDroid's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Perhaps something like this? http://www.lunashops.com/goods.php?id=1811 Then still use the BNC - RCA cable, BNC connector on one end RCA on the other. -
What DVR type to buy and best way to connect to TV etc
SectorSecurity replied to AlienDroid's topic in Digital Video Recorders
You can use either the BNC video out and connector to your TV by converting the other end of the cable to an RCA and plug into the yellow video jack of your AV input. Or you can use VGA and connect to your VGA input. You could get a VGA to HDMI converter, but it would still be an analog signal coming off the unit. I think what Numb-Nuts was referring to was upgrading the DVR to a unit that supports HDMI out so you have a digital output. -
Cable you have a few options, you can use CAT5e which would allow you to go digital later if you want, or you can go RG59 w/ 18-2 power (shotgun cable). I would suggest going CAT5e with baluns. As for the type of cameras I need to know more information about what you are trying to capture in the warehouse, you say the ceiling is 5 stories high, so unless you go with a pendant mount you will probably have to go with a wall mount option.

Usually what I do is convert the BNC to RCA and use the video input, doesn't require a video modulator. As far as the signal going digital I don't see why a modulator wouldn't still be an option.

Surveillance system - DIY guide and other questions?
SectorSecurity replied to data0213's topic in General Digital Discussion
Every door, lock, security mechanism, window, alarm system, CCTV system can be beaten, they are all just deterrents to try and prevent issues from arising. Cameras can provide vital evidence should an issue happen. I never sell a CCTV system to my customers on the fact is will stop anything. -
Do you just copy and paste this answer to every post? Seems a few months back you have seen every issue and your solution to every issue was to ask a pro. Even if I met the OP for a face to face with little information I can not provide much more then has already been stated. I guess we all fly by the seat of our pants when we sell our customers something seeing as you seem to think we have no actual knowledge, I guess next time I will have to consult with a pro.

Hi. yes its normal for junk. get $42 out and set fire to it and trust me doing that will save you money. a $42 card will let you down either installing it or when you need to get footage off. the least you should be looking at http://viewitem.eim.ebay.gr/Qvis-Zeus-Lite-LX-4-8-16-Channel-H264-CCTV-DVR-Recorder-Unit-500GB-1TB-HDD/121100830226/item which is the dahua ..... lots of reading on here about them. Oh. I didn't know. I am really looking for a pc based sollution. Not a DVR. But after all isn't everything made in China? This is true, however this does not mean everything is quality either.
-
The FPS is spread across all the channels on the card, so if its 240FPS and has 8 channels then you have 30FPS per channel, but the question is at what resolution, if at D1 then great if at CIF not so great. And the reason things are cheaper on aliexpress is because you are getting no name cards from china.

I guess daviansmith assumes none of us who frequent this board do this for a living, guess I better start looking for a new job then. -
Hey Numb-Nuts, do you have a link to the housing you show in your post I really like it, seen similar but never this one.

I worked in a warehouse for 6 years, it ran 24/7 and had bay lighting, there was never any need for IR cameras, and a true day/night camera can give the same results, yes night vision (IR) is helpful in low/no light situations, however this does not mean it becomes far superior then every other camera for the simple fact it has IR on it. I would like to know how you believe IR cameras have an "advantage" over other cameras when placed in a warehouse? Also how does IR make the camera weatherproof? Usually when I want to determine how it will stand up in weather I look for its IP rating such as IP 65 or 67 not whether or not it has IR iluminators on it. Like I said previously, we need to know more information about the intended application before we can make suggestions, however you seem set on the fact every camera ever installed in a warehouse must have the IR feature included, I guess I should go back to my customers and tell them I have made a mistake and I need to install IR cameras in locations that are lit up 24/7

POE - Which Switch?
SectorSecurity replied to fishingmaniac's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I usually see this more in business class switches, such as Cisco switches, but I have seen it in mid/entry level switches as well, usually not an issue unless you are racking up the switch with other gear. Managed switches can be a great help if you want to segregate your cameras into a VLAN of their own, and still use remaining ports to handle data traffic. -
