My newest piece of test equipment and my new outdoor Cat5
SectorSecurity replied to Numb-nuts's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
The day you are faced with a cable fracture and can locate it but can't replace the cable yet either because of weather of urgent appointment, Knowing where the break is, you can do a temporary repair until such time as you can return to do a cable replacement, leaving a happy client! "I found the fault and have done a temporary repair, but I'll have to return and replace the cable" Makes good sense to me! + I like your style, not only am I going to fix it for you and bill you but I am going to come back and run new cable and bill you again Now I know what the picture on the left is of, but am I correct in assuming the one on the right is just a junction box? -
My newest piece of test equipment and my new outdoor Cat5
SectorSecurity replied to Numb-nuts's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Good suggestion Numb-Nuts never thought to do that, might get the tester as knowing there is a brake in the cable isn't as good as knowing exactly where the break is, but in a pinch this idea would work great. I have the CCTV test monitor you pictures and agree its sturdy but I doubt it will survive a fall from my ladder. What I do like about it is it has a 12V power source, just wish it had gator clips for the power as I usually install 12/24 VAC auto sensing cameras that just have wire leads which I tie into 22/4 security wire with B crimps, would save me from having to use a power balun to get it to work, although I guess I could rig something up myself. What other cool tools do you have in your bag? -

Help: Needing 2 Reliable IP Cameras with the following:
SectorSecurity replied to lousk's topic in Security Cameras
That sir is one tall order, not one you are going to fill in the 250-350 price range, you are most likely looking at closer to a grand per camera. I would suggest you start looking at axis or mobotix cameras, they can do edge storage to an SD card, don't know about to the cloud I haven't looked. -
Check out the axis line of IP cameras, they offer edge storage and will do what you want. there is also Vivotek they are probably a little cheaper and I believe they offer edge storage. Both will probably be a bit more then you want to spend but thats life. http://www.axis.com/products/cam_m2014e/ http://www.axis.com/products/cam_p3346ve/ http://www.vivotek.com/web/product/ProductDetail.aspx?Model=FD8131

If you have a computer go IP cameras, more money and shorter distances but better quality picture.

Repeated police reports, they still don't care. Help, please
SectorSecurity replied to SFBayArea's topic in General Digital Discussion
I would say put the camera outside, but I am assuming you are using premade cables, which will mean an inch big hole in your wall to fit the connector end. If you don't have time break it out, mount 1 camera call it quits, mount a second camera call it quits, wire a camera call it quits, continue like this until you are finished. -
When you are connected to the same network as the DVR use the IP address of the DVR for example, 192.168.1.101. When you are at home use the domain name you setup, assuming you set it up correctly. You will probably have to make it a socket through like suggested: http://mydvrdomain.com:8081 Replace the above with your domain name and the correct port number.

Sounds like it may be a ground loop problem, I would suggest installing a ground loop isolator and go from there.

I guess he must really want to listen to the music a second time, because again I don't know what he expects to hear.

Hidding a CCTV DVR
SectorSecurity replied to mochito441's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Where do you live? Here in Canada the attic gets way to hot in the summer and way to cold in the winter, electronics don't do well in extreme heat or cold, I would suggest hiding it in your closet, besides a more stable temperature its easy to access should their be a problem. -
[help] how to get back cctv data from cleaned hdd
SectorSecurity replied to offsidezzz's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
You need data recovery tools, what they did was format the hard drive this is not the same as erasing the hard drive, you need to take it to someone that specializes in data recover, depending on where you are located I may be able to help you. -
How to use Hikvision IR dome camera as Webcam
SectorSecurity replied to shyam.vyas's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
I am sure there is, but why not just buy a webcam? If you are really interested get a video tuner card, this should give you an RCA input, connect the camera to the RCA input and you are good to go. -
Putting CCTV Signal in a small wifi area for owners to see
SectorSecurity replied to shravank30's topic in General Digital Discussion
You will need a wireless router, and possible a switch if you need more then 4 access points, you most likely will. Set all the AP's to have the same SSID and set only your router to handle DHCP. Just remember to put the AP's on different channels, say 1 5 and 9 so you don't have any conflicts. -
What exactly is he trying to hear? I would image at a night club over all the people and the music you are not going to hear much of anything other then exactly that, screaming people and music.

Never say never, there are a whole line of products designed to let you run multiple IP cameras over a single coax cable, just think of how many TV channels come into your house on a single coax cable. Numb-Nuts - Going to take your advise and bite the bullet and get the wire Ferrules you speak of, was thinking of a starter kit, but thinking I use mostly 22 24 and 26 AWG, so I may just get the crimp tool and the matching ferrules for the gauges I use. I use baluns all the time so I am anxious to see if they help, tire of the wire not seating right in the balun.

SectorSecurity replied to Numb-nuts's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Hey Numb-Nuts how do you find the quality? I want to get something for tracing wires and detecting faults, as I have had many times where I have sat there going hmm I wonder if a cable snapped while being pulled. -
System Setup for Bar Cash Register (Loss Prevention)
SectorSecurity replied to BrianChicago's topic in System Design
Sounds to me like you just need a couple cameras watching the cash drawers and a system to measure your liquor pours, sounds to me like you need more a a liquor management system to stop losses then a CCTV system. Other then that I agree, you need to go digital and get an NVR not a DVR. I think several cameras mounted above your bottles would be good but that is my opinion. Just remember anywhere someone can reach a camera they will reach the camera and the camera will slowly get moved or destroyed. -
I see these all the time in Home Depot and other stores, they come in a bunch of sizes, and I know there are a few companies that make them, but I can't think of the others besides Everfocus. Personally I think they are over priced, however they are great for times when the customer wants to cover a store enterance and let people know they are being watched, way less work then doing a monitor and camera seperate. I usually see more of the budget style where someone has hung a TV and added a piece of metal to act as the camera mount and mounted the camera to it as well. Guess it all depends on what they want to spend
-
It really all depends on the camera and its ability. I know axis makes a camera which can produce a 360 degree image, not sure of the distance though. You could always use 2 or 3 fish eye cameras mounted on the roof, or 180 degree cameras mounted on the wall, again all depends on your needs.

Alright, let me try my best to put it into text, I feel this is where a picture would be best, will try and get one up later. 1) cable from your modem to the WAN port on your router 2) cable from Switch A to port 1 on your router 3) cable from Switch B to port 2 on your router 4) cable from NVR internet input to port 3 on your router From there just insure you have your cameras plugged into your switches, this should assign an IP address to each camera and allow them to be picked up by the NVR, of course you could probably get down to 1 switch and plug 4 cameras directly into the NVR but that is a different story.
-
All depends on what you want and what you want to spend, I know some customers who want a full D1 resolution record and playback at 30FPS on all channels, where others are happy with 7.5 FPS at D1. I have used the 16 CH Digimerge enterprise series and love them but they are costly, but you are getting eSATA, full D1 at 30FPS, 2x gigabit lan ports, 6TB HDD, DDNS, 5 yr waranty, but be ready to shell out several grand. If you can provide us a list of what you are looking for we can be of better assistance.

Confused with DVRs! Details inside
SectorSecurity replied to XenonXTZ's topic in Digital Video Recorders
If you have a 1200$ budget for just the DVR why not go all out? When you say bandwidth are you referring to remote viewing or do you mean the unit slows down when trying to do to much at once? I would suggest going with a digimerge DVR they are great units. Can get a decent one for 1200$
