Remember 4MB is most likely refering to your download speed, not your upload speed.

I saw this once with a DVR which had a stupid nightly reboot set on it, for what ever reason the DVR would not reboot itself when it did its nightly maintenance reboot, and this would cause beeping. I forget the DVR type, but may be something to check on.

That depends somewhat... as I've noted before, we almost never use coax for ANYTHING... it means having to stock and cart around two more types of cables (RG-59, and station wire for power). I have a box of coax that's been sitting in my garage for about 14 months now, I've been using it so little. I have two boxes of Cat5e in my van that get replenished every three months or one large install, whichever comes first. I have to agree with soundy here, cat5 allows me to carry 1 box of wire, I can run video and power over cat5, yes rg-59 has power with it but then I am stuck running my power in the same direction as the video cable. Much easier to use cat5 and go in a different direction with power if needed. I to have a about 400ft of rg-59 which I have been sitting on for close to a year now that I cant get rid of, will probably just end up using it myself for toying around with personal builds.

Hi Guys, I run my own business and provide CCTV installations, who do I have to get in contact with to gain access to the dealer forum and get the installer label added under my name?
-
If you are installing for customers, if a camera or piece of equipment breaks you want to be able to go to the manufacture to get it replaced, else you will be out of pocket the money for the replacement. Also you know you are getting proper quality when buying from someone authorized to sell the product, you never know what you may be getting when buying from an unauthorized reseller.

Installers needed - Project by Project - Toronto, Canada
SectorSecurity replied to johnmaclean's topic in Classifieds
If you are still looking for people get in touch with me. I run my own company and do CCTV installation. -
If the calculator is correct I do not see a problem, host cameras requiring 24V can stand a small voltage drop and still function.

Record Video Remotely / Backup Offsite
SectorSecurity replied to jgarcia's topic in Computers/Networking
What is your upload speed? Not your download speed, your upload speed will play a big factor on how you will backup over the internet. -
Is your no ip ddns still up to date? May have fallen out of date thus causing this problem.

Looks to me like they wired the camera directly into the video-in on the flatscreen. Is that the "illusion of security?" If that video isn't being recorded anywhere, what's the point? The point is so you can see how good you look when you walk into the store, nothing more nothing less

Do not get a 5400 RPM drive, they are often times very slow, I would say stick with tried and true 7200RPM. And yes prices are up right now, if you can wait then I would suggest you try to wait till you see a sale on drives. RAID will work if you set it up to do stripping, which will help increase the speed, if you are just going to set up mirroring then there will be no speed increase.

Cooked a linksys router! Was 3yrs old anyways.. Upgrade?
SectorSecurity replied to PaulsonLaw's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
If you can get a dual band so 2.4 and 5GHz and it can actually broadcast on both channels at the same time you can set it up so your streaming happens on the 5GHz band and your internet activity (browsing and such) happens on the 2.4GHz band, can help reduce the network latency. Just be careful most all routers will do dual band not all will transmit both at the same time, most you have to pick either 2.4 or 5. As for malicous content using a different port, it is quite possible for the traffic to tunnel itself through an open port, we do this sometimes at work to tunnel SSH traffic through an HTTP port to pass through firewalls. -
I thought the whole purpose of using cat5 and baluns was to push past the distance limitation of coax? I thought coax was good out to about 450ft while cat5 can surpass that?

Put a CCTV Camera on it

SectorSecurity replied to PaulsonLaw's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Yes, less likely these usually have an embedded linux running on them. As for changing the port number to something else I can quickly scan all the ports on a network and determine what is up or down. This activity does not have to be happening on the DVR itself there are many worms out there which are able to spread on their own. As for a good router? The best you will ever get is something you build yourself, search Router operating systems, such as untangle, PFSense, m0n0wall, ClearOS and the list goes on. Then you get to pick the network cards your router will use and the hardware specs. I have turned a mini ITX board into a very powerful 1.6GHz 2GB RAM with 2 1xgb ethernet cards. -
Do not go wireless, most doorbell systems can use existing wiring. Wireless works best on line of sight, and you will most likely get a lot of interference on it. If the video door phones use BNC to transmit video then you could use a T splitter to get it to both the doorbell monitor and the DVR for your CCTV system.

How do i find data recovery?
SectorSecurity replied to fernand's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
This is mostly true, now recovery would cost a lot more and the data is probably not worth the cost. -
cctv download problem???
SectorSecurity replied to zaibi1230's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
I am going to say this is because the drive is most likely a linux format, ext3 most likely. If you want to view it on your system try using a linux boot disk this should pick up the drive. -
Get the fastest upload you can get for what you can afford!! Sorry any opportunity/excuse I have to justify faster internet I take it.

APOLLO NIGHT OWL WITH 500 GB HD good or bad
SectorSecurity replied to PANTHERGRAFIX's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I worked with one of these systems, once and only once, if you buy it I hope you never have to get tech support because they are horrible. Spend a bit more money and get a better DVR, you get what you pay for. -
http://www.bosssecurityworldwide.com/icatch-dvr-series Not sure if there are other places that sell these, this is what I got back from a quick Google search.

If all you are rocking is 4GB ram you could go with a 32 bit, if you have the money go 64 offers better expansion for latter, because I would hate to see you upgrade to like 16GB RAM and have a 32 bit OS. Believe me I have seen that happen, server installs with 64GB RAM and someone goes and gets a 32 bit OS.
-
Is the card supported on the 64bit version of Win 7 I know i was on their site today but it may not be supported. Other advise would be to right-click the install file and go run as admin, have run into this rare occasion before where even though I have admin creds the install will fail if I dont right-click and go run as admin.

About my DVR KPD 674 data recovery....
SectorSecurity replied to niteshojha's topic in General Digital Discussion
Let me know how it goes, I would say if it is really valuable data to send it off to a drive recovery outfit, I would offer to look at the drive for you in my systems, however I dont think we are overly close. -
What kind of HDD we need to choose?
SectorSecurity replied to marufai's topic in General Digital Discussion
The best thing you can do is set the DVR to always record, yes this eats up more space on the drive, however the drive is always in motion, as opposed to a constant start stop of motion recording. I dont think you need to go with a super high end drive, most drives will usually give indication of failure, and I have only ever lost 1 hard drive, and I could hear it clicking away.
