I would suggest use IP cameras, place a switch in each building and use wireless bridges to go between buildings.

SectorSecurity replied to shockwave199's topic in General Digital Discussion
Shokewave, I am going to come to your house and put lets say your outdoor patio set ontop of your garbage and then take it is that ok with you? -
spend the extra money and get the baluns that actually terminate in a RJ45 connector, not screw or push terminals, learn to terminate cables and invest in a good termination tool, problem solved. They also have wire ferrules which you can use.

How to view cctv cameras on any television, COX HD Boxes
SectorSecurity replied to lasvegas's topic in System Design
What you are looking for is called an RF modulator, it modulates the frequency and allows you to input your own signal. -
Looking for help with VSS/Network for new home install.

What is your budget, as that is going to determine your idea of good quality. -
Don't listen to this person, almost all DVR's can backup to USB or an external hard drive. And ethernet cables can go up to 300FT as per the standard before you require extenders.

Multiple monitor setup. how?
SectorSecurity replied to rockinar's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You can use a BNC Balun and go that route, with a BNC to RCA connector at the TV end, or go HDMI over ethernet or VGA over ethernet, you have lots of options. -
Adding More IP Cameras to Network
SectorSecurity replied to mattaggie's topic in Computers/Networking
Put all your cameras on their own network, then you don't have to worry about the additional traffic. a 24 port poe switch is only a couple hundred dollars -
I need Video Server E. I think HELP!
SectorSecurity replied to tinytinyjme's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Does the DVR have a LAN port on it? That is all you need. A video server/encoder is used to allow you to convert your analog system to digital and combine old cameras with a new IP camera system. -
INSTALLING CCTV SYSTEM IN A METAL BUILDINGS
SectorSecurity replied to MikeR86's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
This sounds like an electrical problem, possibly bad wiring, was everything plugged into the same outlet? I would have an electrician check it over, sounds like someone has mixed up some wiring, seen this before where someone has gotten the positive and negative wires backwards, or there is arcing in the box. -
Avemia DVR - Local web portal rejecting user ID and Password
SectorSecurity replied to natedogg's topic in Computers/Networking
The admin account may not be accessible via the internet, it could be a security feature, have you tried creating a second account, locally on the DVR using the admin account, say an account named remote, then try accessing it remotely via the new account. -
Connect to Genie DVR over the Internet
SectorSecurity replied to Loki's topic in Computers/Networking
I don't know what the server port is for, but I would suggest forwarding it the same as you did port 88, it may be handling the actual connection via the software, but I am not sure. -
So I just received my replacement DVR from Digimerge for a smashed unit I received, and I noticed on the shipping info it came from Lorex Technology Inc, does Lorex own Digimerge? I know Digimerge was bought by Flir, does Flir also own Lorex?

setting up DVR for access via remote device
SectorSecurity replied to bbqbrisket's topic in Computers/Networking
What happens if you enter 174.57.150.238 or 174.57.150.238:34567 from an external network does it work? I don't see anywhere where you have entered your actual DDNS address, this should look something like myddnsaddress.com and would map to 174.57.150.238, it saves you from having to remember your external IP and will map your external to the domain name which is helpful when you are on a Dynamic IP address which you most likely are. -
setting up DVR for access via remote device
SectorSecurity replied to bbqbrisket's topic in Computers/Networking
Where did you get this DDNS address? You need to do some reading up on DDNS and port forwarding. there should be a DDNS setting on your DVR, this would be the address you use when on an external network, and you would use an internal address when you are on your internal network. -
Q-See backup and recording question.
SectorSecurity replied to reubdy's topic in Computers/Networking
I take it you are trying to backup over the network which is probably a 100MB network, this would make backup slow, might want to consider an external hard drive. As for your issue with the hard drive filling up you can set the system to over write the oldest footage first once the drive becomes full, this would mean losing footage should it become full, but it will also allow you to keep recording should the drive become full and you haven't managed to perform a backup. -
Are you trying to run a windows based application to view the cameras? Why not just use your internet browser? And yes virtual box would allow you to run a Windows instance on MAC, however I don't see what using a MAC has to do with it?

Something tells me you are trying to access it from your phone via an internal IP address from an external IP address, have you setup all your port forwarding and everything correctly?

Remote Speed vs Image Quality Challenge
SectorSecurity replied to Caesarkat's topic in Computers/Networking
Probably more so you are saturating your uplink pipe, its likely only 64 or 128KB. -
I will save you the trouble, with a budget of 400$ forget IP cameras. You will be lucky to get a cheap analog system for 300$

tools used to terminate rg6
SectorSecurity replied to rbnjr's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Ditch the barrel compression tool, they are crap, get yourself one that sits the whole connector on the compression tool to ensure you get a good solid 360 degree compression. With those compression connectors you have to be very good with your cable stripping, if you are stripping the cable wrong they slide right off. Also make sure to twist them when inserting them on the cable, chances are you just aren't pushing the connector on far enough. -
Send Video Signal through Coaxial Cable
SectorSecurity replied to george_cc's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I do this with a short stretch of BNC to BNC cable, which connects to a BNC T splitter, then I connect the coax via BNC at the T splitter and RCA at the TV, always works for me, and its simple. -
Heys guys I am looking to purchase a PTZ camera for testing purposes, does anyone have one they like that is reasonably priced? Looking to spend about 250-300, not 3000, don't need any crazy features.

don't waste your money on 700tvl as analog only supports 540tvl unless you go with an hd DVR.
